I hate when people say this character is insanely broken, because he's not. Affera and Hito can get the same amount of damage way easier with a couple of wrong reads. Sohei needs a couple wrong reads just to build up one move that deals all the damage they're doing just at one time.
You have to admit tho, mans carry a portable hito 4th feat and depending on how you engage on the next fight you essentially 3 health bars💀 (he’s broken simple as that)
One dodge attack folds his entire mix up. Anytime u think he's going to soft feint zone into gb just simply dodge attack.. or block and not parry anything he throws. He is completely shut down if you only block. No reason to parry because even if he hits you it's hardly any damage.

As another person said in a comment, bad players think he's broken, while good players think he is weak, every competitive player agrees that he is not broken at all and is pretty weak.
He is bad tbh You need to much setup and the dmg is too low The moment you get into a gank situation you are in a hard disadvantage tho I have to say that when you have his stacks and you can heal again and again he can become quite a force because having a sohei infront of you with full stacks gives you psychological advantage
When I spawned Sohei in the training arena, the bot's name was GetOutMySwamp. Also, Sohei is taller than Shugoki. I believe Shugoki has lost the title of being Shrek.

Even if he sucks in teamfights with it the moment he gets it you don't have much options to counter and i've yet to be having much problems with teammates or the enemies team stopping the hit.

The difference between him and old shugo hug was shugo had armor, and the only stipulation was that he had to be critical health. You have to build stacks to get your one-shot. It's a fair punishment. You let the sohei get stacks, AND one shot you. Outside of feats, it takes a bit to get those stacks. You earned the one-shot. Trust me, once people learn how to counter this character, the one shot will barely be an issue. And I'm not even suggesting damage buff on other moves. Just give them slightly longer hitboxes.
I dont understand why everyone's calling him "mid" like its an insult. I'm glad they made a hero thats fun to play and isn't just busted as hell for 2 weeks. Literally every single dlc hero for the last 2 or so years are unbelievably top tier and a good chunk are outright unfun to fight. I'd take this hero with his complexity over a ocelot or Varangian any day. At least his kit had depth and all he needs is some small changes to not be horrible in 4s.

@@mikeoxlong6410 I'd take that, the reason why it was busted back then was because goki had passive hyperarmour, the fastest attacks were 600ms and a parry landed a guardbreak which confirmed a hug near a wall. So yeah I'd say that compared to back then, a 1 shot would be far less broken on him now
I see a lot of people talking about his damage outside of his one shot move (most of the time), I thought a good way to improve it would be if you have a soul with a weapon, it will increase its damage slightly, so he still maintains his moveset which bases around the souls. and I'm not sure if it's a me problem but I notice his recoveries are really slow for the damage he gets.
So cool tech I found. If someone throws an unblockable, or any attack where you think they are going to feint into GB; just zone. You can zone, have their GB bounce off, then get your own GB as a result. As a Sohei, it is an invaluable tool. Maybe don't try it when you get hit by a heavy and their GB feint is a soft feint.

Option selects don't exist any more but most people would refer to any interrupt, from a read, that a person uses when they think the opponent is going to feint some form of UB attack, or any attack to a GB, an option select. On this particular read you can mostly get away with a light or bash interrupt, but against light hitstun you can also do a heavy on a buffered read to stuff most GB attempts. Doing this against a Varangian guard is great example. What you've explained is not tech per se, but just another bluff call. Most experienced players understand that they can just throw a light or a bash if they think the opponent is going to feint to GB after a light. With the opponent's GB bouncing off from just throwing a zone on a successful read with Sohei, Raider's zone functions exactly the same. If you're in light hitstun you can get away with a lot of things which is why dodge attacking GB attempts still works today. I'd go ahead and call the zone soft feint to GB tech, because to classify something as tech it needs to pretty much give the player more options and such interactions require more game knowledge. The soft feint for Sohei is interesting because it's slow and doesn't seem to have a lot of GB vulnerability and since it's feintable it gives you the option to take advantage of an opponent's GB bounce. Raider has had curtain interactions that were similar. Valkyrie's Full Block GB is a good example of "tech" since you can quickly exit full block after a successful block and get a guaranteed GB. For Sohei's Zone and GB bounce interaction, I'd find that most useful if you're near a ledge because chances are they're going to want to feint to GB and you'll be able to take advantage of the bounce and ledge them instead. Otherwise, on light hitstun, just buffer a heavy and get more damage instead of a zone. If you still need to gain some souls I'd go for the zone/GB tech more often. If the devs leave this alone and it becomes more known, I'm sure people will start to let UBs fly or simply feint to neutral or other attacks to avoid this interaction. Cheers.
I feel like too many people don't get that the hero is a heavy and is probably going to feel awkward compared to a hybrid or something. That said I do hope they give him some buffs to his kit in exchange of nerfing his niche hit and the healing through souls.
I say give him Jorm-esque damage for finisher heavies, and give his lights a 2 damage increase. As a small thing, I want his starter heavies to be faster because by god they are slower than a Shugo charged unblockable.

Why nerf Shamans bite, Jorm Slam, Gokis one-shot, if youre going to bring this 95 damage mechanic into the game. Because its locked behind some 6-hit requirement? Shamans bite, Gokis one-shot, and Jorm slam; all had varying requirements to pull off. Why nerf Second wind, invigorate (Shaolin t3), VG superior block heal, and all other forms of healing, if you introduce a character that can FULL HEAL himself? Again, because of some 6-hit requirement? No, in my opinion thats stupid and is throwing balance out the window. Imagine if Second-Wind operated the same way as his current t2. No cooldown, 6-hits is a full heal. It would be BROKEN.

Ubisoft has really lost their mind with Hero releasing.. wish they kept releasing multiple heroes or Factions at once instead of trying to impress everyone with some mega character
I'm not sure you realize the amount of work it takes to create a hero including all of their gear, weapons, feats, balancing...

@@Caine61 ppl like you keep this game from progressing because you always make excuses for incompetence.. Ubisoft got so comfortable with disappointing consumers that they tried that with the rest of the gaming community and now they are in HOT WATER for not allowing ppl to just make their own character in star wars and assassins creed.. we should have stopped them with the black Egyptian or Female Pirate but we shut down everything that isnt exactly what has been going on since 2015
