GREAT VIDEO! Love how you got right into it and talked about the pros and cons. Very informative! The only thing I wish you talked about, was the time it took to engrave and or cut the items to give us an idea of how fast or slow this machine is cause it's hard to estimate it with the high speed fast time lapse you did on the video.
I have the same machine and same accessories. I latersaw a review on the s1. While a camera has its use you can still have an an amazing experience lasering with the s1
It appears that your power fail test started the job at the beginning which would double engrave the earlier engraved part of the job. Excellent review.
HI Ken, I bought mine a couple months ago, been having a ball with it. My wife has ne doing tumblers for her quilting friends. Great video! It also does an amazing 3D engraving.
Pretty cool machine, thanks for the review. BTW do you have a video showing the engrave and cut tests where you explain what you look for to get optimal engravings and cuts?
Not yet! Everyone likes their engraving and cuts a little different. I look for a dark engrave that is not burned to heavy and a cut where the charring is minimal.
greetings friend, how deep does s1 20w engrave on hard steel and how much does s1 with IR 2w laser? is the engraving easy to remove or is it deeper in the material?
Have there been any improvements to the accuracy over the past since you did the video?. With all due respect, the medallion alignment looked off at the 9:23 minute make to me, especially compared to your placement which looked spot on.
The accuracy is pretty good. When videoing you sometimes have to reshoot and in this case I failed to get the original on videoed. But if you do have issues with the camera alignment there is the camera alignment tool in Creative Space. It works well.
I came across this engraver on another channel and wanted to see how versatile it is and how hard it is to use. If its as easy as you made it look, I may have to take the plunge.
You do not have to have it, but if you are in a confined space it may be worth it. They also have an Inline fan that could work for you. I did a review on both the purifier and inline fan the other day. You can see it here. th-cam.com/video/vY73ifjs8xQ/w-d-xo.html
I'm considering this laser for my shop. My question concerns acrylics. Specifically if I take a piece of white acrylic, paint it black with several coats of something like Rustoleum 2X flat black and then can I engrave lettering on it? Also, could I cut out simple geometric shapes? I'm trying to reproduce the instrument panel from the cockpit of a fighter like an F-15.
@@astrophysicistguy i’m not sure about painting the white acrylic. In theory you can do. If I had some white acrylic I would give it a try lol sounds like an interesting experiment. As for the shapes if you can bring it in with an SVG or PNG file you can.
I saw a video where a guy use bolts on either side to fix the tray and honeycomb in place. kind of made a wedge. I can't find the video now, but if I do I will post it here.
Great video. I just received the riser base and conveyor from xTool. I notice in the manual for the riser base that it advises you to not pick up, or move the S1, once the riser base is installed. I assume that is because of the small number of screws holding everything together. Based on that, I don't think I would take it to a craft show.
Nice review. Interesting comments about the conveyor. If it only does less than 3/4” and it has to be really flat, that could be a problem. I haven’t come across too many boards that were that thin and still perfectly flat. What would the solution be, a taller riser box? Not an expert and haven’t seen one of these in person. But I assume that the laser itself could be raised farther up than the riser does by whatever support as long as it’s stable and level. I’m guessing it’s the height of the conveyor that is limiting workpiece thickness. Edit: I just watched another video about the conveyor. I saw on it that the drive roller attachment, whatever it’s really called, is connected to the front of the laser and over the top of the conveyor. So, by seeing that it looks like raising the laser wouldn’t have any effect because the conveyor would have to be raised too. Still like the conveyor idea though.
I’ve been playing with it and I’m starting to like it. It allows me to do larger signs on hardwood. I think most of my issues were inexperience with the conveyor system. There are issues with every system I’ve used. The fun part is learning to overcome it. 😂
Just purchased my S1 system. Question: other than selecting the materials from their supplied menu, how do you know what power and speed settings to use? Is there a chart somewhere? I wish they showed you the power/speed settings they use with their supplied menu of materials so I could learn more about them.
Hey Richard, So to find out the settings you can do a test grid on different materials. The link to the ones I made in this video are in the description. If you don't want to do that they have material settings for all their machines here www.xtool.com/pages/material-settings.
Total newbie here... Can you explain the difference between the three wattages of lasers, and the applications of each? Have you worked with leather? Thank you so much for this video. I expect to be purchasing once a few questions are answered. I look forward to checking out your channel and videos!
The different watts you need depend on thickness of the material you want to burn or cut. I would say most of us would not need more than a 20w laser. This is just my opinion. Strength also impacts speed also.
Absolutely brilliant video 👍 I was wondering if you could share the rest of the settings for the hip flask? I see you have the power and speed settings but could you share the lines per cm and engraving mode ? Thanks for an amazing video
Hi Ken great video I have just received this machine and so far so good Could you tell me how you get your hexagon test shapes as mine seen to be square only Thank you
Thank you I have sent another question as well Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head around the settings and everything Thanks in advance
Hi, congrats on the review. Well done. I am thinking of purchasing this machine. Is the conveyor belt included or optional? I can't tell from the site... Thanks.
How much this machine ? And is it worth it to buy ? Is it a good income for young Guy ? Can this machine do stainless steel cut and ingraving? What is maximum dimensions x & y ?
The whole system in $2,499.99 right now. I'm not sure what you will do with it to tell you if it is worth it for you. I am confident you could make good money with it. It will not cut stainless steel unless it is very thins, but can engrave it. The working area is 19.6"× 12.5"(498*319 mm).
Hey Ashley, It really depends on what your plans for use are. The S1 if great for taking with me on events. It also does well with curved surfaces. The D1 is a great stay put machine for me. I can use it for larger engraves and cuts. I don't do many larger engraves or cuts, but I do a lot of curved and batch engraves. So the S1 coupled with the F1 are perfect for me. Ken
Agree with you about the camera. after seeing this I hate the way you have to set up where you are going to engrave. There is a better solution out there
Haha, I feel you. One of the reasons I retired from the military was trying to make sure I knew a new piece of equipment better than my guys did. Took longer and longer to learn. Surprisingly this was super easy to learn and use.
This is a great, approachable review. Thank you for taking the time to upload this.
Thank you. I appreciate the commenting
The S1 is the Bambu of Lasers. The twin point system is rock solid.🎉. I love my S1
Yes! I like this thing more ever time I use it.
@@MoonpieCreations I see that the F1 Ultra has an integrated fiber laser. Hopefully we’ll see a fiber module for the S1.

That looks like a sweet machine. I've been contmplating pulling the trigger on the P2, but now I feel like I need to consider the S1.
I’ll be putting out a review of the P2 next month.

Thanks, Ken! Great video. Have this ordered and can't wait to start using it.
Hope you enjoy it! I've been using it in conjunction with my F1 and wow I am batching out projects.
very good review, i did pull the trigger on the 10w version with the honeycomb and airassist
That is awesome. I have been having a ball with this one.
How do you find the 10w im tossing up juat pulling the trigger on the 10 and buying the upgrades over time
Very informative helped decide on which to buy, thank you for your time to review.
Glad it was helpful!

@@rogerp5517 I may do that if I get time.
9:52 is this something you can do on lightburn?
I do not think so. I use creative space exclusively for the xTool lasers.
How's the air purifier? Does it really let you live in one room with the laser without doing extra vent thru the window??
Hopefully he answers your question. I’d like to know to, especially with the current sale that has 2days left with big discounts.

Sorry I have not used the 20w or IR for this machine. The S1 does well in penetrating the metal though.

Thank you. What about cutting paper. Card stock for intricate cuts (lace like ). Thank you.
Although I haven't tried it with the S1 I think as long as you bring the power down enough it should work fine.

It should be able to mark on brass and Aluminum, but to engrave you will most likely need the 2W 1064 Infrared LASER head.

So the rainbow coloring is done on purpose (flask)? Forgive my ignorance, to avoid it you raised the power?

Dose it engrave rings on the inside? Been looking for the best michine to do it
You can get an IR rotary bundle. If that is your primary work for the machine, the F1 or Ultra work great for it.
How do you like it now after 10 months?
Absolutely love it. I combined working with this and the F1.
Just a tip, put some Fablon on the outer cover, and it'll protect it.
