Even though I liked the 90's for the Game Boy and Super Nintendo, I hated seeing Princess Daisy gone for that decade in terms of not making major video game appearances. It's only because people outside of Japan assumed that Daisy was Princess Peach only because Daisy had long hair when she first appeared in Super Mario Land. I felt sorry for Daisy not being taken seriously when she first appeared in the Mario series. I think people outside of Japan were familiar with Peach when Daisy was new, so Daisy's Super Mario Land artwork and graphics must have fooled everyone outside of Japan, so that's why Daisy didn't make much video game appearances at first when Daisy started her gaming career. I hated how Daisy back in the 90's was called a yellow Princess Peach and stayed that way until 2000. It's not fair Daisy had to be under a hiatus. Yes, we still had Princess Peach, but still... Yes, Peach was called Toadstool in most of the Mario games prior to Super Mario 64.

@@ramiroezequielnoriega2599 I know that! I just felt sorry for Daisy disappearing from video games after two video games prior to Mario Tennis just because she was a Peach recolor when she first appeared in Super Mario Land.

The late 80's and earlier 90's were a magical time to be alive. Basically a childs haven! :P Even the commercials had this incredible sense of wonderment, creativity, flash, a loud-in your-face presentation, they were colourful, with an amazing narrator to match, they were just FUN and full of imagination unlike the corporate sterile lifeless depressing lazy garbage of today.
The world sucks now. Vanilla Ice was right, the 90's was the last of the great decades before computers ruined the world. We didn't realize that 'that' was as good as it was going to get. Because once the 2000's reared their head POP culture died, right around 2003 I'd say. Even the very late 90's were no match for the early 90's imo. It always cracks me up when people talk about the 90's, as if the decade was all the same in it's entirety, and that couldn't be further from the truth.
If i could blast back, i'd go 88 - 96 and live there forever! :P 1995 imo, was the last solid-ish year, before the 90's got worse.
1995 takes me back to the debut of Sailor Moon on YTV, Sega Saturn & PlayStation 1 coming out, Cartoons were still good, commercials were still kind of fun, movies like Happy Gilmore, Mortal Kombat & Demon Knight stand out etc, plus the internet still wasn't a thing, no social media and no smart phones. ;)

MAN, that Earthbound ad reminds me of when they used to have these kiosks at Toys R Us, where you could hit a few buttons to view promo and demo material for whatever games you interested you on it. I don't know why, but the Earthbound one in particular was one that just sorta stuck with me as "hey, I remember watching this one".
That'd be closing in on about 27 years in the past at this point. ~sighs a bit~ Guess makin' memories feels a lot more meaningful when you only get one shot every few weeks to check that sort of thing out, when your folks decide to take you up to the city to play at the arcades and do some window shopping for Christmas. Somehow, when you can just drive up anytime, and theoretically just buy what interests you any time you like, it's just not the same. And ESPECIALLY not the same now that the chain itself is basically gone nowadays.
...uh, as an attempt to lighten the mood there, including for myself, funnily enough, that's where I picked up a copy of Persona 2 in my teenage years, of all games! Just seems like that wouldn't fit a store like that, right? ,;3

I love SNES since I was 5 in late 1990 and It's still my favorite system. I'm 38 now and no console can compare to the mighty SNES. SNES had Stereo sound and the crappy Genesis only did mono sound which made the lowly Genesis have tinny sound and the graphics were subpar on the Sega Genesis.

    • @catsaregovernmentspies

SNES & NES take the number 1 spot for me. Followed up by the Genesis, PS1, Dreamcast, Super GameBoy, and dare i say Wii + Virtual Console. ;) Genesis had some quirky titles that were absolutely worth checking out. Splatterhouse 2&3, Decap Attack, Shadow Dancer, Rocket Knight Adventures, just to name a few. And when a JPN dev was on board, they made great use of it's sound chip. It excels with horror games, and dance/electronic/techno music with the likes of Streets of Rage, Lightening Force, Ghostbusters and so much more.
Still, it felt like 2nd fiddle compared to SNES. the SNES was just magical and in an entirely different league, at least to me. 1991's Super Mario world was jaw dropping, and that's just one example of the many. I feel sorry for the kids who grew up in the 2000's and especially onwards. lol Pop culture peaked in the late 80's and early to mid 90's, and i miss it dearly.

They're all great carts that'll give you a good taste of what to expect from similar games on the machine. Some of my personal favorites would be Final Fantasy II, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Ninja Warriors, SimCity, and Sunset Riders.

I remember MOST of these commercials from growing up in the 90's, the Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island one I hated the most, such a cute and fun game that they turned gross by having us stare into some guy stuffing his face and exploding. They also LOVED those close zoom in's of peoples faces shouting.
I do remember that Star Fox commercial and thinking that was one of the coolest commercials they had done for a game, but the goofy lifelike Fox on the cover kind of ruined the mystique of it.
I love the very last commercial is Doom and they don't even show ANY gameplay footage from it haha
My main gripe with commercials when I was a kid is that most of the time they barely showed any game footage, just the faces of kids or people that us as kids didn't care about AT ALL
So many of these commercials have insane flashing too, this must have been before the Pokemon debacle in Japan, so you just don't see that type of insane flashing anymore (even games like Marvel Vs Capcom 1 and Capcom fighting games had insane flashing that doesn't exist anymore).
