The 3D one is great if it’s an individual’s recreation; for a commercial show however, it lacks the detail and emotion that the 2D animation has. I am a little biased of course, though thinking about artists drawing frame, after frame after frame, as opposed to one singular model in 3DS Max or Maya to manipulate… I gotta go with the 2D Animators, hands-down. That’s a big job, and you;d have to be pretty damn dedicated to the art to stick in there (all my opinion of course). I just want to also add that I’m not downplaying what a hard task proper 3D modelling is in itself, just not as hard and tedious as drawing frame rates over and over and over, and over… At the end of the day, you could realistically make a Sailor Moon using a 3D Program with way more detail than the original 2D animation animation. It would take far less time, and ought to look spectacular. What I’m trying to get at is that it depends entirely on the whole team (or individual artist) who are/is making the piece in the first place (i.e. production & design, their overall skill, teamwork/communication, and how dedicated they are).

On the contrary, I liked the 3D version, it gives a vibe to scenes from games of the era PS1 the cutscenes are like from Final Fantasy 7-8, Tomb Raider, Tekken 1-2-3, or any other game, I meant an animated scene.

If you check the video description there's a link to the person who made the 3D version. It was fan made by that person, do you expect it to be done by professionals? I know it doesn't look perfect and there's alot of mistakes but they took time and effort just like the 2D. If you don't like it, then why not make a better version yourself? 3D looks better than Crystals noodle and rushed transformations.
