I have a question. I plan on vacationing in Thailand for a few weeks for sight seeing and just a break from work. Is it better to stay in Bangkok, Pattaya, or Phuket to get the best access to day trips like the islands along with doing some shopping?

I think Pattaya is better. Because from here you can get to the islands of Lahn, Samet or Koh Chang, as well as close to Bangkok and its attractions and shopping centers. Despite the fact that Pattaya is a resort town, there is also a lot of Thai flavor and a large excursion program.
