    So you have Apica, you have Midori, you have Tomoe River, and now you have discovered the goodness that is Maruman from Japan. Only Life brand remains. Life Noble Note notebooks and the various "Writing Paper" pads are pure bliss. One to remember for the future........

    Or more accurately, nuh-MOSS-uh-nee, but yes, they're absolutely brilliant notebooks. The paper is fantastic, and the fact that they lie nice and flat lets the rivers of ink that I spew with my vintage flex fountain pens dry without issue, and it's easy to photograph the results. I adore them.

    Mnemosyne is notably the mother of the Muses. The nine demigoddesses of various arts (whose name has come to signify inspiration itself) were daughters of Zeus and Memory :)

    I think the 'creative' landscape pads have a cardboard backing, whilst the notebooks have a plastic backing which makes it more durable. Just another distinction to be had. These notebooks are great!

    I use those Word Notecards for outlines of speeches and keep them in my hand, with the rings around my index finger, during the presentation. It's a very unobtrusive little reminder tool which has helped me through some moments when I lost my train of thought. Also handy for small shopping lists and learning languages (words!).

    The top bound notepads have a ruling very similar to the Midori World Meister GRAIN notebook (140 x 76 mm). However the Midori notepads have both ruled and plain paper in each pad (50:50).

    To add to the comparison with 80 gsm Rhodia, my personal experience has been that I get a lot more sheen from sheening inks on Maruman Mnemosyne than on the Rhodia.

    Are they the standard A and B paper sizes like they have in Japan? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size I found these in Japan and I fell in love with them, and I'm so glad you carry them now! The word cards are also good for making flash cards.

    Got the A4 and Word Cards over the weekend and I really love the design of these products - the cards are fantastic for swatching and the notebook paper is excellent - perfect for sketching with my favorite FP and ink. Love the plastic cover as it takes more abuse than the typical notebook.

    My Mnemosyne notebook has been my go to for fountain pens but recently I had a bad experience with it. I experienced a lot of feathering with my Diamine Aurora Borealis ink in both my Jinhao x750 with a medium nib and my FPR Darjeeling with an ultra flex nib. Have you experienced any feathering with specific inks and or pens with these notebooks? On a whim out of frustration I pulled out some of my HP 32lb laser/inkjet paper that I primarily use for pointed pen and didn’t have a bit of trouble with feathering. I would be curious to see if you have similar issues with the Jinhao x750 with that particular Diamine ink.

      Sara Farahani I've use the Maruman paper in B5 size and would highly recommend their paper. I had no problem at all with it. Its nice a sooth and trouble free. The only thing I noticed it that Noodler's Inks seemed to take longer to dry on it but J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir dried quickly. If you get some I think you'd like it.

    Hi there, I found a little PROBLEM!
    I just have a Mnemosyne 104 notebook, and I noticed something weird, when writing with my Meisterstück with "black" ink (either Cool Grey or Mystery Black, both from Montblanc) the paper doesnt take the ink very well, it seems it slips and skips some part of the writing letters (as if the paper were plastified, or greasy/oily (I dont know how to describe it). This doesnt happend in a Rhodia No 16 block. When I change the color in the fountain pen to an Untramarine ink (Montblanc and my favorite) this doesnt happened on the Mnemosyne. Has anyone know why this could be happening? are these Inks made of off different quimicals?

    Ok this is going to sound really weird, LOVE the review by the way! But I was wondering, out of the "notebook" style maruman's which size is most like the typical notebook's you can get from the store? I think the size of just any normal regular notebook is 8-1/2" x 11" but I'm not so sure. I've been wanting to buy this brand but I'm not sure which notebook size to buy that will be around the typical size of just any regular notebook. Note, I'm just using the notebook for my college classes this year.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A4 is the general size for notebooks you're familiar with from school. Here's a lined one from Maruman that should work: www.gouletpens.com/maruman-mnemosyne-n199-notebook/p/MM-N199A. We also have an infographic on paper sizes, because it can get confusing, if you're curious: blog.gouletpens.com/2016/04/understanding-common-paper-sizes.html - Colin

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nib of the pen does make a big difference on that, but if you have a finer nib, you should be fine writing on the back of this Maruman paper. It's high quality & fountain pen friendly. - Colin

    I'm worried that the pages will tend to fall out (due to the perforation). Is this an issue or is the perforation strong enough to keep the page in place after heavy long time use?

    What is the paper type in Maruman Mnemosyne? Is it similar to TR? Is it as fountain pen friendly/loving as a TR?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely fountain pen friendly in terms of not feathering/bleed-through. It's definitely thicker (80g) as opposed to Tomoe. That said, it doesn't show off the sheen/shimmer as well as Tomoe either. - Colin

    I hate to be that guy (ok maybe I like it being that guy but don't want anyone to know) but Mnemosyne is usually pronounced like this th-cam.com/video/S99WrHq-VQk/w-d-xo.html or this th-cam.com/video/bNKb1kTnUnw/w-d-xo.html

    This video is too long and this guy explains his own problems and I don't care about what I could possibly use the notebook for. I just need to know what size and the need to know details in a quick fashioned way. Over 15 mins to explain three different type of notebooks... He just wastes time with these long sentences that only explain his rationale... I have to go 8 minutes in just to get to the part of notebooks I want to see
