Good to hear you're enjoying your 140! Love using mine & it just has a natural writing feel to it. Great pick for your first vintage pen!

Ahh! Thank you for watching and commenting! I love your videos! And I am loving the natural flex to this pen and how wet it writes!

@@KarynaLovesToPlan I have other pens with way more flex, but my 140 has just the right amount & can be used to enhance your regular writing/printing or for flexy writing. Even holds more ink than my M805!

Would you happen to know whether you are able to swap out the nib it came with with a different Pelikan nib? Thank you! kari in Victoria, BC

That's a gorgeous pen! I also own a vintage Pelikan, albeit a pretty cheap steel-nib Pelikano model 2 that my grandfather got from his boss when he started his job at the local bank back in the mid-1960s. He gave it to me a few years ago when I got into fountain pens, but I only discovered it's age and importance a few months ago. It's truly a fantastic pen despite its price point, having lasted my grandpa at work almost every day at work for over 30 years and still writing like a dream. I'm still shocked that he used one for so many years since fountain pens practically died out here in Norway once ballpoints became an affordable alternative. Fantastic video! And enjoy your new treasure :)

Thank you so much, Nico! I love hearing stories like that, about fountain pens being part of our grandparents' history. And only now am I really understanding their importance and quality!

It is a great pen! The M 140 is still a much sought writing instrument, and remains a favourite to vintage pen enthusiasts. Compared to modern Pelikan models the M 140 looks very unassuming and small; but when a writer writes down a line on the paper he or she is in for a very big ( and pleasant) surprise. Enjoy your treasure!

Yes, absolutely so true! It does look so unassuming but the ink capacity and then that nib - so glad this is my first (and so far only) vintage pen! Thanks for watching!

I just ordered a 140 for myself. I imagine it becoming my out and about pen, when away from my desk. I think they are the same as people. Not to simply be done away with because of age, or something prettier. But cherished and loved, kept in use. In time, the pen will tell the story of its previous way of life. It makes for fabulous journaling.

I love the way you put that! These pens do have a story to tell and they should be used, not put away! Thank you!

As far as I am concerned, Vintage supercedes any modern day counterpart - primarily because of the flexion in the nib(s); the only exceptions (in terms of the Pelikan brand) are the Kugelfein - writes like a nail, & the Stenographer nibs - also nail-like - super-rigid gold. The 140 is a superlative scribe (I have three in different colours) - versatile, yet still with sufficient girth to be comfortable over protracted writing sessions. I note that your piston turning knob has a gap, which means that the reassembly of the piston is incorrect - the piston knob ~ barrel should be flush, & it is not difficult to remove the piston unit; all you need is a TWSBI (metal) wrench to undo the threaded housing - there's a flat edge on the screw, evident when you fully extend the piston cork/silicone. If you are going to do this yourself, make sure you remember that this has a left hand thread: Normally, Right is Tight, & Left is Loose, but to unscrew, have the piston end to your right, & turn the wrench away from your body. If it does not turn easily, a little, judicious heat from a hair dryer should melt the sealant/wax to enable removal. Take your time ! Once removed, the cork/silicone seal screw should come to a stop about 5mm from mounting threads that seat into the barrel; this may need to be trial & errored, so that the piston turning knon sits flush to the rear of the barrel. of course, if you're not happy to do this, any good vintage pen seller/restorer can do this for you at a modest price. The 140's & the Ibis models do not carry rings between the knob & barrel. Whenever I purchase a Vintage Pelikan, I always strip it down & reassemble - but that's just me. As with all fountain pens, there's always going to be pros & cons for maintenance, & therein lies the rub; cal it, a labour of love, if you will. Wonderful presentation !

I go to estate sales and every now and then there's a shoebox filled with old pens and pencils marked $2 and I always buy it. That's where I got my Pelikan pen. It's my favorite vintage pen.

It’s beautiful!! You paired it well with that ink. I have a vintage pilot elite 18k, F nib. It writes so smooth!!

@@KarynaLovesToPlan oh!! If you do, I would ask the seller if it writes before you purchase/ make a bid. Mine is from the ‘70s. It’s awesome! I washed it when I received it and before putting ink in it. Then I used a pilot ink in the sepia color and it’s so smooth! I usually like a medium nib, but this made me change my mind… at least for this type of pen. It’s like a pocket pen that you can post. Please make a video if you do decide to purchase this type of fountain pen, and thank you for listening about mine! 🤗❤️🙏

Karyan! You are sparking my interest in fountain pens! I love watching your fountain pen videos and I appreciate you testing out the pens you purchase 💗 I'm seriously thinking about investing in a fountain pen! They are gorgeous and the writing of a fountain pen seems to be a lot smoother than most gels pens. 😊

Thank you for watching! Glad you find these helpful! It took me a few TH-cam videos before I was ready to invest in a fountain pen. I'm in that stage where I'm wanting to "test out" pens and inks. I hope to get to that phase where I really know what I like (and therefore, not spend as much!).

Your new/old Pelikan is exquisite! In my opinion, if you were looking for pretty, you found it! It even looks nice when placed next to your other Pelikan. I'm one of those immature people that likes to match the ink with the color of the pen, and the ink you used was perfect. I'm just now getting into fountain pens so I have to ask...what do you mean when you're talking about feedback. This was such a fun video!

    • @KarynaLovesToPlan
      @KarynaLovesToPlan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you, Kim! There is definitely something so charming about vintage, especially in a fountain pen. Great question about feedback - it means being able to feel the nib on the paper, like writing with a pencil. Different from scratchy where the pen feels toothy or it's grabbing the fibers of the paper. Hope that helps!

That I'm not sure - I believe it can be easy to screw out the nib from the rest of the body, but I have not yet tried it.

Always interesting to me what some people consider to be "vintage" when speaking about pens. For some, it's pens from the '70s or '80s (and before), for some it's from the '50s or '60s, some the '30s and '40s, and so on.

I had idly wondering why you hadn’t taken a stab at a more flexible nib since you (like me) are into hand lettering!
This pen looks amazing, I all haven’t paid more than $30 USD for a pen yet, but I may keep my eyes open for one of these!

    • @KarynaLovesToPlan

I was really scared about trying pens like the Noodlers Ahab since I've heard horror stories about it. I am really interested in trying a 1.1 stub nib which seems to be such a stark contrast to my wanting fine nibs, but I love the line variation that nib has! The Pelikan vintage fountain pens do range in price, depending on which one. But this one was probably the least expensive that I found, and it is such a good value for a vintage gold nib!

Why, why did I click on your video? I want vintage pens now... I don't own a Pelikan, but those are beautiful pens. I couldn't help but notice how you were holding the pen. I used to hold it like a ballpoint pen myself. It took me years to get out of that habit and write loosely. I use cheap $10 Platinum fountain pens at work every day. (You don't want to drop $400 pens when you get out of your car.) Cheap Japanese fountain pens don't dry out for years! I did an eyedropper conversion on a Pilot Petit1 in 2016. After using it almost every day, I just re-filled it in 2022. 6 years of use, without drying!

Thank you for watching! I have been working on my grip since being introduced to fountain pens in September. It's so strange having to write with a ballpoint (I grip so tightly and push down so hard) but I'm getting out of that habit with the fountain pens.

@@KarynaLovesToPlan I know, it's strange, isn't it? I tore holes on paper and even bent a nib on a cheap pen once... lol... You've got a cute channel going. It'd be lovely to see it growing!
