Horacio Fernandez but it didn’t. It happened here in a blowout. It’s nobody’s fault BUT this is why you take out star players when the game is a blowout because things like this CAN happen. It’s like wearing a seat belt. Sure you can go without a seatbelt for years with no incidents. All it takes is getting it wrong once and it could destroy your life.
You can clearly tell Paige isn’t a quitter. After she fell, you can see she tried to keep going with the ball but obviously couldn’t. I’m so proud of her and where she’s come ❤ I pray God blesses her and gives her the chances she deserves ❤
This might be on Paige herself. After the game, coach intimated that Paige does not like going out of the game ... ever. This might be the lesson where she needs to listen to coach.
Yeah, if a player acted like Paige does when coming out of the game - moping, pouting, complaining, trying to avoid being subbed out for - they should be benched for that reason alone. It's unacceptable. When it comes to playing time, the coach's word is law.
Geno already knew something was wrong when her leg when straight. He called Nika to take her spot within two seconds and I love that as soon as she saw Paige in pain she turned and ran right around to check on her.
This did not look at all like an ACL injury. She hyperextended her lower left ankle (essentially, rolled it a bit), and while that is painful, especially at first, it usually heals pretty quickly. The best sign was that she was able to walk off the court at the end of the game with a bit of support, while putting weight on the left foot. With some RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) treatment over the next few days she'll be fine.
This is actually one of the most common mechanisms for an ACL tear. This was a hyperextended knee with a little frontal plane movement into varus (usually will see valgus with rotation but this happens also). The ACL is what controls end range knee extension/hyperextension Hoping the ACL help up but I fear it didn’t.
That's what I would say too. A knee hyperextension. I've torn my ACL on the court before, and there's no way she would've been able to put that kind of weight on it, let alone walk off the court the way she did.
Idk sometimes about coaches, there’s no point Paige Bueckers still being in the Game with 38seconds left up by 18, protect your players throw in the freshman’s and give them playing time like Azzi Fudd or Amari DeBerry, poor Paige man not to mention she was coming off injury during off season hopefully she heals up soon the Huskies need her
@@grimeslordeoceaneyes917 he has a loaded bench but when you look at the stats and they win by 20 he only has 7 players that has played. Get your bench in their in case something like this happens?? Smh big time!
Azzi is injured and will be out for 2 weeks. He mentioned on post interview that Paige wants to be out playing every minutes and complains every time she’s taken out. End of the day he is coach so he can overrule her but also this could have just easy happened in practice, which they say it harder than games generally. He also did say he doesn’t like the team without Paige on it. When she’s playing it makes all the difference. Still with such a packed bench he should be playing subs more to get them ready for later in the season when you may need them
I feel like Geno doesn't trust his other players enough to put them out there. He'd rather have his starters play the whole game rather than rest them even if they are up by 20.
I know this is a very old clip.... we've watched her go through adversity since and come out the other side looking like a legit BOSS ❤️❤️❤️ if I'm starting an expansion WNBA franchise...... I'm doing everything in my power to secure her "rites"...... she's the total package to me..... marketable ❤️ sweet & endearing when interviewed ❤️ not afraid to openly, publicly give God the glory for her (and her teams') success ❤️ and hella talent ❤️ it's amazing to me that you could easily build a successful WNBA roster just outta the next 2-3-(even 4) Drafts of current players 🤯 throw-in a couple of current veteran stars and BAM!!! long, successful run 🔥🔥🔥
If you read my posts from last season, Paige getting injured was a big fear of mine on her behalf. There are two factors. First, Paige is a very slightly built person. If you’ve ever stood next to her, she is muscled, but very, very lean. Tall and thin players such as Paige tend to have a harder time staying healthy. Secondary to that, teams started to discover late last year that if they get physical with Paige- ping pong her through screens, hard box outs, hand checks, et al., you can impact her game. ND followed that playbook, as have all teams since last year, and Paige was smacked around the court all game long. Honestly, putting on 10-15 pounds of lean muscle mass might not have prevented this injury, but adding mass and strengthening the muscles around joints can potentially be preventative, especially with all the increased physicality Paige has experienced in the college game. We wish her the best!
True. As great as Bueckers is, she plays a strength-sapping full court game with a lot of minutes. She does take a physical pounding at times. She doesn't seem to have the build to gain much weight or muscle.
I concur. She really doesn’t have the build to put on a whole lot more mass. Her playing weight is listed as 145, but in person she looks much thinner. She does play a full court Tasmanian Devil style game, with a ton of energy output at both ends of the floor, compounded by tons of minutes. She is the future of the women’s game, I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I said hyperextend and you have no idea how other people handle pain and frustration. She clearly hyperextended the knee and rolled the ankle, but most likely the knee is the issue. I have torn ACL’s, MCL’s and meniscus multiple times and it really depends on the moment. I’ve hyper extended and sprained many things and they are often just as painful or more. It didn’t look like a severe enough hyper extension to cause an ACL tear, but perhaps a strained or torn PCL or popliteal, but all are possibilities. If there is a major tear, then it very likely was already underway, it’s unlikely a mild hyper extension like that would cause major damage by itself.
You can still walk with a partial tear . Tom Brady had an ACL tear in his knee in the first game of 2008, and walked off the field. He was out for the season.
Hopefully, it’s just a hyper-extension of the left knee, like has been previously stated (looking at re-play). Both of my younger brothers played college ball, and had similar injuries. It’s painful, but provided the MRI is negative, she’ll be back soon.
My friends always get annoyed with me for yelling at the TV at the end of blowouts when coaches won't bench their stars, but this is exactly why I do. There's 0 logic behind doing that, and in college you're risking someone's future livelihood potentially.
I don't get it ,Up almost 20 points ,under 2 min. to play and your top players are still in the game.this is the perfect time to give bench player playing time. But he's a (great) coach so I guess he knows what he's doing.
terrible journalism with the Title of the Video. You have NO way of knowing the extent of the injury. Yes, she left the game with a knee injury, but the extent is completely unknown.
How in the world did you get an Achilles from that? It’s clearly the knee, and if it were the Achilles she wouldn’t have been able to run to the sidelines after.
Sadly injuries happen, just don't want to hear if page was playing, we would win the championship. Uconn has top talent. Last year I believe Arizona lost a starter and still almost won a championship with less talent then uconn.
That's on Gena. WTF was Paige doing in the game up almost 20 with less than a minute legt knowing how brittle she is? I'm just looking back at this and saying coaches and players wearing masks is freaking unbelievable. The Fauci effect. 😮
Get off Geno’s ass. If he has to worry about her walking the ball up the court to run out the clock, then he should be afraid of running her in practice, or letting her walk down the street. This fluke accident is nobody’s fault-not Paige’s for wanting to stay in, and not Geno’s for leaving her in. Fluke accidents happen.
The hyper extension was after the fact somethings happened before that, which caused it. Plus this not football so that's why she was still I'm the game.
Up 18 points with 40 seconds left and you have your All-Star player on the court is pure stupidity on the coaches part.
i'll never understand why coaches leave their best players in the game during a blowout and with little time left in the game. Hope she's good.
Shit doesn't make sense bro
This kind of injury has nothing to do with that. It could have happened during a practice or even during a shoot around
That’s Geno. Plays starters starters heavy minutes and has a 1 or 2 person bench
Horacio Fernandez but it didn’t. It happened here in a blowout. It’s nobody’s fault BUT this is why you take out star players when the game is a blowout because things like this CAN happen. Gotta pad them stats
this is truly heartbreaking to see i hope she’s okay
Me too
Oh no. Having a phenomenal season too. I just hope she can recover again and have a career left. Prayers go out to her
and not getting paid lol

27 seconds left they are up by 20 WHY IS SHE ON THE COURT?????!!!!!!
Say it louder so they hear you at storrs

@@i_am_vengeance_ understandable. But geno is no punk. Sit her behind down so we can get this chip later. We want the chip in the end

was really scared with the title but it really looks nothing like how you would tear your ACL.

i was thinking the same usually when it’s acl tear there’s a twist or some sort of weight that causes it to tear. i pray you’re right!
That's what I would say too. A knee hyperextension.

Geno does that alot! I don't understand his coaching as far as leaving them in when he's up so high in the score!????

hopefully just a hyper extension and maybe a tweaked ankle. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
That's way too much pain for a tweaked ankle she either hyper extended or torn something as her knee buckled.

Man. I had a similar injury in high-school playing football. And i can assure everyone it is a excruciating pain that i would never wish upon anyone
I tore my ACL in basketball and no one deserves it
Why is she in the game when the Huskies are up 18 with 58 seconds left this is completely ridiculous bad management
I've come from the future to tell you that Paige is staying for another year after being sidelined for 1 year with that ACL injury.
You can still walk with a partial tear . Tom Brady had an ACL tear in his knee in the first game of 2008, and walked off the field. He was out for the season.
True. Same as Kawhi Leonard
The same happened to a friend of mine... he walked alone off the court, 1 week later he was on the surgeon table.
It looks like she hyperextended her knee I’m praying for her because I love her so much
Shit, hopefully, better than what is currently being diagnosed. No contact falls like that can be a ligament tear.
Currently being diagnosed by trolls with no medical degrees.
Hopefully, it’s just a hyper-extension of the left knee, like has been previously stated (looking at re-play).
Both of my younger brothers played college ball, and had similar injuries. It’s painful, but provided the MRI is negative, she’ll be back soon.
Praying for you, Paige!
I know that hurt. I’ve torn both ACLs twice and none of them were that bad
the real question is why was she even in when they were up almost 20 damn points
She knew immediately that it wasn’t good. Thank god she was able to bounce back.
Just now watching this why you having a star player. In with 1 min left? And already won. Terrible coaching!
This was one year ago, as I’m watching this right now Paige Bueckers has an torn ACL and out for the whole season :(
Early report is hyperextended knee per team physician. MRI tomorrow,
Prayers for Paige and the rest of the team.
Noooooooooooooo!!!!!! 😭 Please be okay 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Notice how the whole ND bench came over to say good game
The player (# 21) guarding Paige showed great class by not trying to steal the ball even when Paige began hurting. Kudos to Paige's opponent.
obviously....what a low standard lol

WHY was she still in the game??? I’m confused af.
Could had happen 2 minutes into the game, has nothing to do with how long one plays.
Hyperextension!!!
Hopefully that's all it is 😭
heart broken, we are going to see you play against UCLA soon too. Get well soon!
I'm heartbroken too get well soon 🙏
I really hope not I was looking forward to seeing her play in two weeks against Louisville
I hope she is going to be well soon and not ACL. Get well soon Paige. Best is yet to come for you.
That's a manly injury right there BABE
No,no,no, Paige I hope you will be okay.
bc uconn is an elite program and they are preparing to win a national championship every year…
down goes Frazier 😂
Why have her in the game this late anyway
No question now, she's got the torn ACL now...so sad that she continues to push herself when her body needs rest and proper rehabilitation.
Hope Paige is ok🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I don’t know why you leave her in there if you’re up by 18 with 38 seconds I Pull her out If you’re up by 20 with a minute left
Hyper extended knee is a weird feeling
terrible journalism with the Title of the Video. You have NO way of knowing the extent of the injury. Yes, she left the game with a knee injury, but the extent is completely unknown.
Up by 18… 35 seconds left…. All those bench players praying to play!!! I’ll never understand why coaches do this
Why tf she still in the game up almost 20 with 38 seconds left? Smh. Sending positive vibes her way. Get well soon!
Click bait!!! Don’t speculate on diagnosis when the only evidence you have supports otherwise.
Paige needs to sit out the rest of the year recover and go to the draft that waiting 4 years is no benefit to one of the best players in the country
That’s the coaches fault! Ya up 15+ with over two minutes left and you have your starters out still
Why was Paige in the game with 40 seconds left and the Uconn was almost up 20? Doesn't make any sense
I don’t understand why they didn’t bring a stretcher out for her. It’s obvious she can’t walk or put any pressure on that leg.
Lmaooo how you injure yourself with no on you 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Achilles
How in the world did you get an Achilles from that? It’s clearly the knee, and if it were the Achilles she wouldn’t have been able to run to the sidelines after.
She ain't on the ground she's on the floor , where these announcers come from ? Who sees dirt or grass thats not ground thats a court floor 😂🤣
I'll cry too if my knee blew up.
Sadly injuries happen, just don't want to hear if page was playing, we would win the championship. Uconn has top talent. Last year I believe Arizona lost a starter and still almost won a championship with less talent then uconn.
Auriemma was very stupid for keeping Bueckers in the game with less than a minute left with UConn up by 18.

She had surgery everyone
she’s officially injury prone.
How? Injury prone players miss tons of games. Paige missed one game last year, and her ankle surgery over the summer was a preventative surgery.
Please don't get hurt
Highly doubt she has a torn ACL, I've seen much worse and players only hyper extended their knee.
That’s what you get for pissing around during garbage time.
