Thanks for being honest about the salary expectations! I’m glad you are being compensated well for the work you’re doing. It gives perspective on potential salaries for PMHNP !
@@BabaCustom hi! How are you making out? I also live in NJ. Been a psych RN for 12 years now ASN. Also have BSN in finance but looking into PMHNP programs. Did you start? Any recommendations for ASN RN to PMHNP? Thank you!
I just left a job I worked at where I saw on average of 22 patients, at times 29 patients per day. 1 hr eval, 20min follow-up including children. After 3.5 yrs, I felt overwhelmed. Good to know I was being abused and they made a killing off me like you said. I made what I thought was decent money but obviously should have made more. Sounds like Maryland pays better than NYC. Congrats on all your achievements!
Love the videos. I’m finishing my accelerated BSN and the mental Health NP is intriguing. I’ve had 3 back surgeries too so trying to make a wise decision on the next step
Psych NP, great video. In Ohio the salary is roughly the same, someone with a couple years experience can expect to make between 150-220K, although, Ohio does require a physician collaborative agreement. I have heard several different salaries for new PMHNP grads, including a low end of 109K, but most should expect a low end of 140-160k after a year of experience. I have a few semesters to go before I can sit for boards, but have always loved psych, it was my first degree before nursing, and I am actually giving up a senior nurse executive career to do my PMHNP program, which also is self-reassurance that this career change from the business side of health care to the provider side is not salary driven for myself as it may be for others. I have several friends, that over the years, know the salary expectations behind this specialty track who have continued to focus on the FNP or other NP tracks, which I agree is very smart, while the salary may be good in this specialty, I would not recommend making that anyone's driver, they may find themselves burned out and moving back into another area of nursing if that is their only goal. I appreciate your videos, keep up the good work!
@Danielle Bridgeman you make so many great points. I can only speak from experience and speaking with physicians, NP's, and patients. I believe the average age for NP's is in the 40's. Many NP's have loans from prior degrees which dissuade them from medical school, as well as children and families used to a higher income that would alter life in a big way to start over in school. A good friend of mine who is a hospital internist reported to me that before I think about medical school take into consideration current loan debt, years of work in school and how much time I will have left to practice. Medical schools also take this into account during admissions, that is, how much practice time will this individual have left? Don't get me wrong, this is not the only consideration, I've met nurses in the past that went back to medical school in their 30's and 40's and did well, but it seems that they are the exception and not the rule. As far as patients trusting their psychiatric provider, I feel this really comes down to the provider. I've met patients who don't trust their doctor as well. That's why the initial intake should be focused on patient safety and building rapport. These are only my thoughts from my personal experiences. I'm sure many others have great experiences and thoughts to share as well. Many great points made though.
Great post! I'm at Walden currently for PMHNP. I have a hx in adult psych, corrections, tele, and case management. I'm glad I chose to go back to school!
wow really good video. i have seen videos regarding pay but not mentioning the quality of life vs the pay. not many videos discuss the medications check..its very true, you will always have a strong career in medicine but once you start making money the quality of life becomes more important!
Thanks so much - trying to decide what to do about my first job. Have found one with those nice 30 min checks and even though it pays less, I just might take it. The money will come .... I just don’t want to burn out too soon .... thanks for this!
Do u plan on making any newer videos? Just found the channel and thank u for your honest approach. I'm an FNP in the ER and am starting my post graduate pmhnp certification soon.
Thx appreciate that. I'm actually really blessed to have a really great paying RN job so it's making these offers hard to accept but u made me realize that as a new grad it's all about learning ang getting support.
I heard this is such a common issue in psych NP nursing where many providers are only given 15 minutes per med review. Quick question, when it came to signing your contract with your practice, does your contract outline how many minutes you will have for medication reviews and psych evals? I have colleagues who were told that they would have 25 minute med reviews & 90 minute evaluations during their interview but when they started, it was all a lie and they really could not argue it because the agreed terms during the interview were not outlined in their contract. I am curious to hear how your contract was outlined. Thanks!
Before or after you get sucessfully sued? Alot of people hyperfocus on psych NP for the money end up getting sued and license revoked. be careful please.
And as a NP you are guaranteed that type of pay,? It’s no work you’re way up or experience like we will gain experience but like RN you have to work you’re way up for higher pay have a speciality or be a traveling nurse to make the 80,000 to 100,000 range of pay?
How does salary compare in states that don't allow full practice authority? Is it possible to open a private practice in a state like California so long as you have a physician collaborative agreement?
Thanks for such valuable information. Delaware has become the other state granting NP independent practice. Can I reach out to you for more guidance. I am completing my Psych NP certification in December
Hai, great content , could you please explain how to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practioner ? university admission requirements for international students after Bsn (11 years experience) iam from India . Thanks in advance. I will be wait for your valuable reply .

How long is the Walden psych NP program?
Hi Whitney, I just started the PMHNP at Walden too, hope it’s going on good for you.

Awesome video! Thank you SO much for the information!
Glad it was helpful!
Was looking for copper, but found gold. Very informative. Not just about salary but an overall lifestyle.

I’m thinking I may change my degree choice from CRNA to psych NP. I’m so sick of bedside nursing. I hate it so much it’s unreal .
I left bedside nursing for psych and couldn't be happier. Make 36 a hr for nights and currently in a graduate program for my PMHNP
@Mafer Gonzalez Yes, Ill be taking the exam in June
Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work!
Thx appreciate that. I'm actually really blessed to have a really great paying RN job so it's making these offers hard to accept but u made me realize that as a new grad it's all about learning ang getting support.
If you don't mind sharing, what is your pay as an rn?
Thank you for all your insight and advice!
@Mafer Gonzalez I already did in September 2022 :)
@Mafer Gonzalez Yes :)
I’m in Philly. Average $37 hr new grad. $45-50 hr experience nurse with full benefits.

Hi, I am also an icu nurse trying to make the jump into psych. I work in baltimore md and would love to shadow you or some of your colleagues.
Before or after you get sucessfully sued? Alot of people hyperfocus on psych NP for the money end up getting sued and license revoked. be careful please.
Do you have your masters or doctorate ? Does this make a difference in pay ? Thanks for the great content !
Can you please let me know what the codes are used for return visit patients for 30 minute vs 60 minute? is it 98214 and 98038 or 98036? thanks!
I enjoy your channel. More grease to your elbows. Quick Question: What process did you go through to have the pharmacy honor your prescriptions

Do you find abs build your own clientele or are the patients provided for you? Thanks
How much psych RN experience do you recommend before applying as a psych NP?
why do you not do private practice? did u sign a noncompete clause
What’s in patient and out patient which is better? Is private practice better
Great video. Do you think you can tell me, based off your research, what should the salary be in Southern California.
@Mafer Gonzalez yes
Which school did you go to? Do you recommend online or offline?
did you have to get DNP or master’s still works?!
Hai, great content , could you please explain how to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practioner ? university admission requirements for international students after Bsn (11 years experience) iam from India . Thanks in advance. I will be wait for your valuable reply .
