I think that the SAGE 2019 Demo was a wake up call for MC Pig. They most likely realized the Super fast paced levels should probably just be what the whole game is like. Rather than some levels being fast and some levels being platform and combat heavy. I think that was the best call because this game is awesome
Nah it was around last year. For a long time after SAGE, they were flip flopping on the game's design. For a while wallrun from a jump was even removed.
Reminds me of initial demo of Spark the Electric Jester, that was very slow, but eventually the game became fast, returning to its roots of Sonic fan games. It's almost as if making a game fast makes games more fun.

My headcanon for why Pizzaface would tell Peppino he's gonna blow up his restaurant is so he could lead Peppino out of his restaurant and possibly keep him in the tower sort of like how the bosses just sort of sit around on their floors. Fake Peppino might've been just a placeholder until he could get the real Peppino to take its place. So imo it's either that or Pizzaface just wanted to taunt Peppino before destroying his establishment. Doing something EVIL to someone doesn't exactly have the same punch if you just kill them off unceremoniously.

I don't think pizzaface ever had the means to destroy the pizzeria, I think he was just trying to trap another poor soul in the tower and just chose the wrong guy on the wrong day.
well since pizzaface has always just been pizzahead, im pretty sure pizzahead actually wanted peppino's pizza gone because he made his own pizzeria go bankrupt

This is shown through Pizzahead not actually controlling Pizzaface but instead sitting on the toilet minding his own business until he comes out. Also Pizzaface dropping gears in the second phase of the fight and the reason for why Pizzaface looks like that it's because well,you did damage it

yeah, i found this out AFTER i wrote the review lol. still, i think most people wouldn’t think to try this if they didn’t already know it and would just try to do it on lap 2 instead.
I liked everything about this video except the take on damageless bosses, as someone who has gotten every p rank and outfit and achievement, going damageless on the bosses is very difficult, yes, but the more you try you learn new ways to overcome certain things in each fight. For example, with the Noise you can run up the walls in the fight to avoid his ground based attacks, or with Pizzaface you can time throwing an enemy at him to completely skip the attack where he spawns several enemies. (Or alternatively, you can jump off of another enemy for extra height and hit Pizzaface without having to time an uppercut or wait for his slam attack) It only really becomes a slog if you let it, approaching the fight same way over and over again to no avail is the fault of the player. The game rewards you for trying things you usually wouldn’t think of. TL;DR you dont have to sit and wait on a lot of the bosses phases for an opening, you can find your own openings, rewarding you for trying new things and being observant
in all honesty while some of them did go a bit long i could’ve forgiven it if it weren’t for the horrible grind it took to p rank the final boss. though to be fair, i wasn’t really utilizing the party at all during these damageless boss fight runs, so that probably held me back quite a bit. i wrote all that before realizing this and didn’t quite have time to change it sadly.
I swear this game is perfect, the literal ONLY problem I have with this game (the super jump being on analog) got fixed with button mapping so this game is literally a 10/10
One thing I love about this game is that it doesn’t take anything seriously. Peppino going batshit on the bosses in the final boss? Why not. You turning into goddamn Satan in R-R-Freezerator? *Why not*. The game wants you to go absolutely NUTS with all your abilities and it is so satisfying.
i like how the story is super simple and the bit with the purrgatory gameplay really surprised me its really underrated and everyone here should play it (its free)
I suppose the idea around the Secret areas is that they try to predict a player just constantly running into certain spots and thus consider them good spots to place secrets. I’ve definitely watched a lot of steams where people would just run into these rooms by sheer accident cause of blitzing around and thinking they’d just splatter on a wall instead of breaking them.
Pizza face never really showed off the laser in the tower, I don’t think they really cared to blow up Peppino’s restaurant. I think it was just to scare him into a challenge
On the topic of samples in the music, the original track for Blood Sauce Dungeon "dungeon freakshow" had it's main melody taken from Intergalactic from the Beastie Boys until they had to cut it
I heavily recommend turning texture filtering OFF during a playthrough, the filter makes pixels less noticeable and a lot more smooth, turning it off disables that filter and gives the MS paint like art all the glory it deserves. Just thought it throw this I for people new to the game. :D
when I first tried the game, it was because I heard some friends talking about it, and decided to pick it up. it was incredibly frustrating at first, to the point where I even refunded the game two levels in. but I immediately bought it back, because I was frankly enamored by it, and wanted to get better at it. and lo and behold, it's now my favorite platformer of all time
that's the magic of a learning curve. it is risky, because many people will give up on a game if they find it too daunting or unconventional on first impressions, but for those who stick with it and master it, that mastery is extremely rewarding!

As far as indie games go, this really looks like a TRUE successor to Wario Land. Dunno whether to get a Steam Deck specifically for this game or wait for a console port (I mean a Switch port would be wonderful to get it some mainstream attention and show there's still demand and love for Wario-style platformers).
the devs have shown interest in a console port but if/when it happens it wont be for at least a couple of years. here's hoping nintendo finally takes notice and gives us a new WL game though!

I love Pizza Tower the moment I saw the game, I actually bought the game(my second game purchase on Steam, I loved Pizza Tower that much) And...I've been addicted since then... AND THE SOUNDTRACKS Definitely Game of the year, one of the games that actually feels original!
to be fair it makes even LESS sense on keyboard when there are a hundred unused keys to bind it to and the game had fully rebindable keyboard controls from day 1

I'm honestly surprised you had so much trouble with Fake Peppino and phase 2 Pizzahead, Fake Pep was my first accidental P-rank while I was going for an S-Rank after only a few tries (you even point out how nonthreatening some of his attacks are, lol), and I'm not sure if you were aware that you can still Parry while holding the gun, so no, none of Pizzahead's patterns are "impossible", though granted the tracking on Brick Throw is ridic and a sneaky rolling cog can be really annoying (though even then, you can bait it into rolling the opposite direction of where you want to stand and fire away).
i never really thought to parry the bosses until after i beat the game, wrote my review, and uploaded the video, which plenty of people have mentioned, and yeah, that definitely would've made it a lot easier lol
fun fact, all the requirements for the S rank are really only on the P rank, you can get an S rank without one of the requirenents with enough points and the only requirement is the score cheese gutter is a great demonstration of this, the points from kills gives you an S in the first room
One of my main problems with the fake peppino fight, is that it takes ages to do. I can complete the first level 4 times over in the time it takes me to win against him. While most bosses are 2-4 minutes long, (except pizzaface, the literal final boss) he takes 8 FUCKING MINUTES to do. He has attack patterns that take forever to do (15 seconds of doing literally nothing to avoid one) and he has 12 hits. It feels more like 24 because each one requires 2 grabs to deal one damage. This makes him feel like it takes forever to kill him. The battle in Pizzaface’s fight is a lot more fun because 1: I don’t have to wait through his attack cycles to deal any form of damage, I can chuck a guy at his face, and 2: He has 4 hits that can be instantly removed by throwing Gustavo at his face rather than 12 that you have to grab twice to remove one point. With the addition of a short italian you can throw at his face it goes from “can you please hurry the fuck up I can P-Rank a level in the time it takes to get any rank on this fight” to “oh my god this is actually fun”
I don't know how much if this is still canon, but when Pizza Head was Pizza Boy, he climbed Pizza Tower to defeat the evil Peppino. Years later, Peppino isn't evil anymore, but Pizza Head is still consumed by hatred and the need for revenge
I like to imagine that Pizza Face’s threat was never true. He just wanted to prank him. (Admittedly, it’s a prank that only Pizza Face could find funny.)
wait what 101% ending there isnt a ranking you can only get by reaching 101% theres one for getting 95% in under 4 hours but the wow one you showed while saying that is the highest you can get via rank alone

from what the devs have said, it's certainly on the table, but it won't be for quite a while. they still have a lot of stuff they want to add to the base game, and even when that's all done the porting process is not an easy one. i still expect it to happen eventually but probably not for like a year or two
interestin' boss opinions, boss 4 is most people's favorite and boss 2 is most people's least favorite from whatti' seen, and i never seen people say phase 2 of the final boss is harder than the first one...
the first phase of the final boss gets a lot easier when you learn to instantly piledrive an enemy into it at the start of every other attack he does lol and yeah boss 4 is way more interesting than boss 2 conceptually but the actual design of the fight is just sadly kinda boring whereas vigilante always has you doing something and has a really high skill ceiling to it, you can totally wipe the floor with him with perfect timing

I don’t get why people say war is hard, it’s the hardest level in the game, I first tried it, and got the treasure on the second run, haven’t tried for the secrets tho
while i did say in the video that it took me a few tries, i was also going for all of the secrets and treasure on my first run of the level, so there's that. and yeah, it's not THAT hard for people who play a lot of video games. i've seen some more casual types try it though, and even with a whole game of skill training behind them, they still struggle with it. it's very demanding and for some people it's just not easy to keep up.

I'm honestly surprised you had so much trouble with Fake Peppino and phase 2 Pizzahead, Fake Pep was my first accidental P-rank while I was going for an S-Rank after only a few tries (you even point out how nonthreatening some of his attacks are, lol), and I'm not sure if you were aware that you can still Parry while holding the gun, so no, none of Pizzahead's patterns are "impossible", though granted the tracking on Brick Throw is ridic and a sneaky rolling cog can be really annoying (though even then, you can bait it into rolling the opposite direction of where you want to stand and fire away).
i never really thought to parry the bosses until after i beat the game, wrote my review, and uploaded the video, which plenty of people have mentioned, and yeah, that definitely would've made it a lot easier lol
You can get an S with out lap 2, it just helps a lot
fun fact, all the requirements for the S rank are really only on the P rank, you can get an S rank without one of the requirenents with enough points and the only requirement is the score

yeah, and i completely forgot about it while p ranking the bosses. lol
One of my main problems with the fake peppino fight, is that it takes ages to do. I can complete the first level 4 times over in the time it takes me to win against him. While most bosses are 2-4 minutes long, (except pizzaface, the literal final boss) he takes 8 FUCKING MINUTES to do. He has attack patterns that take forever to do (15 seconds of doing literally nothing to avoid one) and he has 12 hits. It feels more like 24 because each one requires 2 grabs to deal one damage. This makes him feel like it takes forever to kill him. The battle in Pizzaface’s fight is a lot more fun because 1: I don’t have to wait through his attack cycles to deal any form of damage, I can chuck a guy at his face, and 2: He has 4 hits that can be instantly removed by throwing Gustavo at his face rather than 12 that you have to grab twice to remove one point. With the addition of a short italian you can throw at his face it goes from “can you please hurry the fuck up I can P-Rank a level in the time it takes to get any rank on this fight” to “oh my god this is actually fun”

As for the issue with the gun during the Pizza head fight, you can taunt to parry incoming attacks
i realized this after uploading the video and now feel a bit silly for how much i complained about it lol
it's definitely my own fault for not utilizing the parry during boss fights on my first playthrough, that would've saved me a lot of effort.
I don't know how much if this is still canon, but when Pizza Head was Pizza Boy, he climbed Pizza Tower to defeat the evil Peppino. Years later, Peppino isn't evil anymore, but Pizza Head is still consumed by hatred and the need for revenge

from what the devs have said, it's certainly on the table, but it won't be for quite a while. they still have a lot of stuff they want to add to the base game, and even when that's all done the porting process is not an easy one. i still expect it to happen eventually but probably not for like a year or two

interestin' boss opinions, boss 4 is most people's favorite and boss 2 is most people's least favorite from whatti' seen, and i never seen people say phase 2 of the final boss is harder than the first one...
the first phase of the final boss gets a lot easier when you learn to instantly piledrive an enemy into it at the start of every other attack he does lol
and yeah boss 4 is way more interesting than boss 2 conceptually but the actual design of the fight is just sadly kinda boring whereas vigilante always has you doing something and has a really high skill ceiling to it, you can totally wipe the floor with him with perfect timing

I don’t get why people say war is hard, it’s the hardest level in the game, I first tried it, and got the treasure on the second run, haven’t tried for the secrets tho
while i did say in the video that it took me a few tries, i was also going for all of the secrets and treasure on my first run of the level, so there's that. and yeah, it's not THAT hard for people who play a lot of video games. i've seen some more casual types try it though, and even with a whole game of skill training behind them, they still struggle with it. it's very demanding and for some people it's just not easy to keep up.
Fun fact: the "pizza song" is actually called "taratella napoletana"
