Balatro is one of my favorite games ever now. Ngl this year has been amazing for indie. Balatro, crow country, animal well, and nine sols. All definitely worth playing

No joke on Black Myth: Wukong. When I saw it a year ago, I kinda just thought it looked good but would probably meet mediocre success at best. I didn't even know it came out when it did. After playing it all the way through (secret ending included), I WANT MORE. It had its problems, but it is easily my GOTY, and I won't be forgetting this game for a long time.

This game really made me want to cry. The development team put a lot of effort into every small boss, and many well-designed bosses would definitely be reused in other games, but this game was so generous as to only let them appear once. I can also see that the fifth and sixth chapters were rushed, as the lack of funding and time didn't allow for too much attention to be paid to the details. However, they made no compromises on the plot, and the main storyline really moved me as a gamer. Great Sage Broken Shell definitely deserves to be my favorite boss in all the games I've played so far. From start to finish, I always wanted to save Sun Wukong, and to save him I tired so hard to go through those trials, overcome so many difficulties, and in the end, when the old monkey said that Wukong was dead, my reaction was the same as Bajie - my tears really started to well up and I couldn't hold them back. I don’t want to become Wukong, I just want to bring him back😭. This is a magnificent and splendid game, and it must be my GOTY.
In fact, in the real ending, you get Wukong's message from the Erlang God, and after you fill all the containers, Wukong comes back to life (the monkey played by the player is actually Wukong's hair).
I love the game but its a lil too easy sill really fun space marine 2 is also pretty good now that the games come out its graphics and gameplay are amazing and my favorite is ff7 I just love the characters the combats fun but as long as one of the 3 wins im happy

I dont think it will, brawler game tend to be very niche and not a wide enough net of players to make it, it might get a mention to honor Toriyama tho, That I 100% could see happen but winning it? not so much. Wukong is too much of a beast to be so easily dethroned, it feels like a repeat of Elden Ring honestly.

Having played all of them except Black myth… Black myth has the biggest chance. Recency bias aside, Helldivers was a flash in the pan that burned out when Sony pulled their BS with PSN. Rebirth was fantastic, but I personally don’t see it winning many awards, much less GOTY. Space Marine 2 is far and away my favorite game of the year, but I’d be absolutely shocked if any 40k game took GOTY. Black Myth shattered records, is almost universally loved, and fits into the same niche BG3 did. It’s not popular because of some fleeting MMO novelty hype that can be gone after one patch, it’s popular because it’s a well made single player game with a good story. Of course, this is all ignoring the fact that GOTY is as meaningless as the Oscars. It’s just a pompous industry circle jerk where companies can pat themselves on the back by having shills lick their boots on camera. Nobody should care about GOTY.
Awards are subjective and based on opinions. 😮 I am super surprised. But yes just like the Oscars you have opinions of what constitutes a game of the year contender and no particular system exists to fully quantify it to make it completely without bias.

HD2 was doomed to burn out sooner or later. It was incredibly fun, and I loved every second of it, but I could it falling off steeply from a mile away. Sony hasten its demise for sure, and probably killed what little life it could have held onto.

Honestly, I love fromsoft so I kinda wanted to hate wukong because of the amount of games that tried to copy them and failed… but Game Science didn’t do that. They didn’t copy more than a few simple mechanics that actually existed elsewhere and they made the first game similar to something fromsoft would make that really hit. And you can’t fault the story either. Overall a really positive experience and it’ll have my vote
When has making souls-like games failed? Lies of P, Sekiro, Nioh, remnant, Stellar blade, and black myth wukong were all successful. Doesn't matter if the genre is unoriginal, hardly any games in the genre flops.

I am also convinced Wukong will win. It broke records, is a full singleplayer game and really holds the old standard we used to have for games. I've put hundreds of hours into Helldivers 2 and it's really fun as a multiplayer game but if we're grading it multifaced then Wukong wins just by it's environment and storytelling. Spacemarine might win but from what I've seen they're also putting the focus on multiplayer which kinda makes them only competative against Helldivers 2. In short all three games are really fun but one crosses from simply a game into an artpiece and that's Black Myth Wukong

Persona 3 Reload can't even objectively beat the original it's remaking, it's a watered down persona 5 experience slammed inside persona 3's story with a worse presentation (YES I SAID IT). It has its stronger suits, but by far if you actually want a satisfying challenge and AI that doesn't feel like it was dropped on its head as a subroutine you should go play p3fes. And that's, like, bad.

FF7 has the best map design this year BY FAR (I would say it’s on par if not better than Elden Ring, this is coming from a diehard player of Elden ring)and so much fully voiced content. The characters are all likeablr and have such good voice actors not to mention how good and varied each character is in combat. Right now Rebirth and Wukong are the #1 contenders, best games this year by far.

Helldivers was killed by sony then the devs buried it by buffing enemies and nerfing your weapons. The playerbase has nothing to do with it, it was sony and the devs that fumbled. Players didn't say "my guns are too strong and I want to be forced into making a psn"

it's still sooooo much better. the only reason it has negative reviews is because of country restrictions, not in the gameplay itself. the gameplay is 100 times better than anything Fortnite or overwatch could imagine

Helldivers has only added a handful of stratagems in the months following the release, plus the new guns are locked behind super credits. Helldivers is fun, but without new content to keep players coming back their game is slowly dying.

No joke on Black Myth: Wukong. When I saw it a year ago, I kinda just thought it looked good but would probably meet mediocre success at best. I didn't even know it came out when it did.
After playing it all the way through (secret ending included), I WANT MORE. It had its problems, but it is easily my GOTY, and I won't be forgetting this game for a long time.

This game really made me want to cry. The development team put a lot of effort into every small boss, and many well-designed bosses would definitely be reused in other games, but this game was so generous as to only let them appear once. I can also see that the fifth and sixth chapters were rushed, as the lack of funding and time didn't allow for too much attention to be paid to the details. However, they made no compromises on the plot, and the main storyline really moved me as a gamer. Great Sage Broken Shell definitely deserves to be my favorite boss in all the games I've played so far. From start to finish, I always wanted to save Sun Wukong, and to save him I tired so hard to go through those trials, overcome so many difficulties, and in the end, when the old monkey said that Wukong was dead, my reaction was the same as Bajie - my tears really started to well up and I couldn't hold them back. I don’t want to become Wukong, I just want to bring him back😭. This is a magnificent and splendid game, and it must be my GOTY.
In fact, in the real ending, you get Wukong's message from the Erlang God, and after you fill all the containers, Wukong comes back to life (the monkey played by the player is actually Wukong's hair).

Having played all of them except Black myth… Black myth has the biggest chance. Recency bias aside, Helldivers was a flash in the pan that burned out when Sony pulled their BS with PSN. Rebirth was fantastic, but I personally don’t see it winning many awards, much less GOTY. Space Marine 2 is far and away my favorite game of the year, but I’d be absolutely shocked if any 40k game took GOTY.
Black Myth shattered records, is almost universally loved, and fits into the same niche BG3 did. It’s not popular because of some fleeting MMO novelty hype that can be gone after one patch, it’s popular because it’s a well made single player game with a good story.
Of course, this is all ignoring the fact that GOTY is as meaningless as the Oscars. It’s just a pompous industry circle jerk where companies can pat themselves on the back by having shills lick their boots on camera. Nobody should care about GOTY.

HD2 was doomed to burn out sooner or later. It was incredibly fun, and I loved every second of it, but I could it falling off steeply from a mile away. Sony hasten its demise for sure, and probably killed what little life it could have held onto.

Honestly, I love fromsoft so I kinda wanted to hate wukong because of the amount of games that tried to copy them and failed… but Game Science didn’t do that. They didn’t copy more than a few simple mechanics that actually existed elsewhere and they made the first game similar to something fromsoft would make that really hit. And you can’t fault the story either. Overall a really positive experience and it’ll have my vote

I am also convinced Wukong will win. It broke records, is a full singleplayer game and really holds the old standard we used to have for games. I've put hundreds of hours into Helldivers 2 and it's really fun as a multiplayer game but if we're grading it multifaced then Wukong wins just by it's environment and storytelling. Spacemarine might win but from what I've seen they're also putting the focus on multiplayer which kinda makes them only competative against Helldivers 2. In short all three games are really fun but one crosses from simply a game into an artpiece and that's Black Myth Wukong

Persona 3 Reload can't even objectively beat the original it's remaking, it's a watered down persona 5 experience slammed inside persona 3's story with a worse presentation (YES I SAID IT). It has its stronger suits, but by far if you actually want a satisfying challenge and AI that doesn't feel like it was dropped on its head as a subroutine you should go play p3fes. And that's, like, bad.

FF7 has the best map design this year BY FAR (I would say it’s on par if not better than Elden Ring, this is coming from a diehard player of Elden ring)and so much fully voiced content. The characters are all likeablr and have such good voice actors not to mention how good and varied each character is in combat. Right now Rebirth and Wukong are the #1 contenders, best games this year by far.

Helldivers was killed by sony then the devs buried it by buffing enemies and nerfing your weapons. The playerbase has nothing to do with it, it was sony and the devs that fumbled. Players didn't say "my guns are too strong and I want to be forced into making a psn"

@@BTRshow That came out last year lol. BG3 physically can't be a contender for this year whereas Dragon's Dogma 2 could be since it came out earlier this year.
@@arishok5091doesn't matter when BG3 came out. Any RPG game afterwards (especially the following year) had to meet that standard and Dragons dogma didn't meet that, so people disregarded it. Dogma isn't a bad game, but people are spoiled from BG3 and will belittle Dogma because of it.
@BTRshow I think it's less of BG3 problem than the game just failing to capture public interests. With this logic, final fantasy 7 remake and persona 3 shouldn't even be in the conversation for goty because it's not baldurs gate. Shadows of the erdtree critical acclaim it's not earned because is not BG3. See how wrong that sounds?
I think the major performance issues on pc caused the hype to die out quick, on top of the anticipation of shadow of the erdtree dlc, and ff7 rebirth overshadowing it. It’s a shame because dd2 is actually a great game. For sure will be nominated for something
