Thanks again for your help in posting this video. Almost a year after this successful fix, I had a similar problem surface. When the car is running and i turn the headlights on the car dies and the radiator fan comes on. If I turn the lights off and the key off, it will restart again. So, I have a car I can't drive at night. The mechanic checked the ground wires by the driver side kick panel and found nothing out of the ordinary. If you happen to enjoy these kinds of questions feel free to let me know what you think. I thought I would throw this out here in case you had any ideas about where to tell my mechanic to look. Next step we are checking are the ground connections under the hood.
Run engine at 1500 rpms (P ark or neutral) and turn on the headlights. If engine keeps running but dies at idle upon releasing the gas pedal the problem may not be wiring but rather idle speed control or alternator related. The fan, headlights and EFI main relay are sharing 2 redundant ground points on inner front fenders (both sides) PM me your e-mail, I'll send you the PDF page
For anyone with a 2001 corolla le from USA hope this helps 16-17 tail light 20-2 head light relay control 7-3 lo/hi relay control 4-14 parking brake indicator 21-19 high beam indicator
I am surprised that people still finding this mod valuable. Imagine technician working in the shop and making money on this?? All automated "baby sitting" stuff "for convenience and safety" ironically fails first!
Hi, thank you for this information! Is this bypass possible on a 2000? I'm having the same issues as everyone else, and I am positive my drl module was damaged by water.
I have a 99 Prizm Lsi and have one question. My mechanic followed your instructions and the high and low beams now work. Only problem is the parking lights don't. Any suggestions about what we might be missing? thanks for your help, would love to save this car; still has less than 100,000 miles on it and hopefully I can get many more years out of it thanks to your help.
+Michelle Noyes I will double check if diagram for 99 Prism is identical to 99 Corolla. The parking lights should be the easiest one (2 wires next to each other). How about instrument panel lights? do they work in parking lights ON position, with low beams , or not at all?
+Michelle Noyes according to schematics from library database, light green wire goes from tail light relay to the module connector #16 and wire 17 (light green with black stripe goes from connector to the light switch on the steering column. If light green wire (#16) is connected to the ground, the parking lights should come on, (also the parking light relay should click) if it clicks but lights are still off check 15 amp tail fuse.
+mkrp4 Thanks for this help! Just spoke with mechanic and the dash lights weren't working either, so he is checking the fuse behind the coin tray (lower left I think). I will keep you in the loop as we get closer to being finished.
+mkrp4 Thanks again for your help in putting all this together. Car is now fixed and working better than ever. Turned out the insulation on one of the repairs needed to be fixed, and that got the parking lights working. I have had the Prizm in three different times for ground wire/electrical issues all having to do with the drl. Thanks for your help in finally getting this system bypassed completely. Totally worth the work.
