      He wasn’t talking down to the homeless person. He was sticking up for every other homeless person person who has yet to have a serving of food. He was willing to give him food just not before everyone else had a serving. It’s common courtesy the homeless guy was ignoring since he already ate. And it has everything to do with self esteem. This is actually a great moment of character development. This confirmed the fan theory that Beavis would actually be a fairly decent person and contributing member of society, if it weren't for Butt-Head. Beavis acquiesces to Butt-Head as he does to Stewart here, due to his generally less-assertive personality. The difference is Stewart drives Beavis to do well.
    Butt-Head trying to pull Beavis away is poignant; despite Butt-Head's seeming indifference, he NEEDS Beavis. Beavis, however, does not need him. Regardless, they've both become co-dependent.

    • @lettylunasical4766
      @lettylunasical4766 3 ปีที่แล้ว +575

      You could flip it even more. The other way around (Stewart and Beavis being best friends only for Stewart, in a christmas special, seeing Beavis and Butthead as best friends and arseholes) the fan theory could be that Butthead naturally *isn't* decent or a contributing member of society and only is so because of Stewart.
      So really it isn't so much Butthead's fault, but the fact that Beavis just goes with whatever he attaches himself to.
      Without anyone, what would Beavis be I wonder?

      It may have been a Christmas special, but the development we get for Butt-head, and the insight into the mind of Beavis we get is astounding. Every line has an impact, it's not a normal episode. Every time Beavis speaks, he shows how truly different the world is without Butt-head. Beavis is a good person now, attached to Stewart rather than Butt-head. Beavis is still easily influenced by those around him, immediately having a fascination with Butt-head's insults. Abuse is unfamiliar to Beavis, even proclaiming that it isn't right for Butt-head to get physical. Beavis is naturally passive, a counter to Stewart and Butt-head who are naturally assertive. Butt-head learns just how much of an effect his existence has had. It seems that everyone, no matter who, is benefiting from the absence of Butt-head. There are moments where Butt-head registers this, showing remorse. Butt-head even showed sympathy towards Beavis after interpreting him being at a homeless shelter as Beavis being homeless. However these thoughts are only briefly visible, before being pushed back into his dark mind. We see that when Butt-head acts normally in this world, he is kicked to the sidelines, because everyone viewed him as an adult. In the normal world, we see that Butt-head is only cared about because of laws prohibiting kicking him out. When those laws are not there to protect him, Butt-head is given no special treatment, immediately getting kicked out because of his normal actions. The episode may not be canon, most Christmas specials aren't, but this is my favorite episode of Beavis and Butt-head

    Beavis is actually a good kid at heart. The newest Beavis and Butt-head episode (yes, the show is back with new episodes on Paramount Plus every week) proved this even more when Beavis is out and about by himself and runs into a Butt-head lookalike who is a nice (but clingy) guy and won't leave Beavis alone. At the end of the episode Beavis realizes that this new person he just met is actually pretty cool.

  • @Rayrard
    @Rayrard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +397

    Beavis simply moved on to a different assertive friend and took their mannerisms and passions (Beavis working with Stuart at the shelter and wearing his band's shirt). A bit sad that he has no mind of his own but also good to see that he is not a bad person at heart. The few moments with Butthead was enough to foul him up just a little. Interesting that Beavis is not any smarter and still has the bit of a laugh. So Butthead is just the super-assertive and super confident person Beavis needs as a friend, but Butthead is a different kind of loser and a bad influence.

      Humans are a pack animal and most are naturally followers. Most people are just like Beavis, it is not hard to see how mass media has influences the beliefs and values of most people over the past century. The concept makes most people uncomfortable and ironically, the denial of our tendency to be easily influenced followers makes us much easier to influence.
      Modern media making the silly claim that we are all 'equals' has made it nearly impossible for true leaders to emerge that can challenge it's stranglehold on behavior. Egalitarianism drags the greatest men down to the level of the lowest in an attempt to make a level playing field. The only ones immune are the ones already at the top.

    At 1:30 they still took the quick moment to animate Bevis’s tick smile. I bet it’s some form of Pavlovian subliminal messaging.

    Funny how TH-cam can bring back so many memories when watching clips like these
    I’m 38 years old and this takes me back to Christmas Eve 1993 I believe when I was doing my best to stay awake in my room until Midnight when my parents let my brothers and I open our gifts. I was hoping and hoping for the Super Nintendo, I spent some time cleaning my room to prep for the new console as it was the most important thing in the world to at the time.
    I was watching THIS particular episode of Beavis and Butthead to stay awake.
    I did get the Super Nintendo that year..good times I wish I could relive

      It's the internet. I remember when people were obsessed with making Velma from Scooby Doo out to be a lesbian years ago. Literally every television show has people who over analyze everything. It's an interesting thought though and makes me wish they'd show how these two dillweeds met.

      @@evan2902 girls who try to look like guys (usually 300lb construction workers) aren't trying to attract guys. everyone specially them know no guy wants to date something that looks like a guy. her look is the poster child for butch females or really bad trans male. even snl made skits in the 80s about a doppelganger of her called "pat". "its a boy its a girl whats that its pat! ". an thelma looks exactly the same cookie cutout as pat an the other 2% the worlds population who *want* to look like 'pat'.
      its just as simple at looking at pretty an fit people an understanding that took dedication an time an *they* theirselves chose to look how they do. everyone does this an most people are generic clones so its super easy to figure someone/thing out simply by reading a line they wrote or analyzing how they made their body look over decades. like your post here is borderline baiting an argument that anyone trying to look like Pat is trying to date guys.

    Beavis being this way had the ability to empathize as well as understand other people and their emotions rather than being apathetic, uninterested, and unintelligent.
    It’s evident too because of the homeless guys calling him a good kid
    It’s pretty cool seeing Beavis be more human and genuinely a well behaved
