1080p 60fps is perfect for handheld mode, 1440p docked at 60 fps would be more than adequate imo as well. 4k is not necessary, many (most?) PC gamers dont even use 4k yet, with people staying at 1080 or 1440p.
Even the new Strix halo handhelds can't achieve 1080p 60fps in handheld and those are wayyyyy more powerful than this SOC. Maybe Nintendo first party titles could but there is no way that AAA games will reach that.

When has leaks ever forced Nintendo to reveal something? Answer - never. Even if it leaks in it's entrity a day before the reveal, they would still not acknowledge it. And quite rightly so.
I think all looks really great for the New Switch, what ever name it has, but I have only 1 concern still which is battery capacity. If I want to play something on the go and its a AAA game, I expect it at least to be able to run 3-4 hours at least!

I think Nintendo knows we only have 1 maybe 2 more "console" generations possible now. Nintendo do have one other timeline they care about, the customers. Revealing now, promoting with a February Direct, Pokémon Presents, a Superbowl ad and Mario Day all to build up to a crescendo for either Golden Week and Easter or June would be optimal.
$5 says that Nintendo is the source of many of these leaks. Basically drumming up hype without having to give any real information. Waiting to see how the original Switch sells over the holiday season to firm up a release date for the Switch 2. March if the Switch sold poorly to pad the balance sheet before the end of the fiscal year. Or April if it sold well to start FY2025 on a high note.
Hardcore fans who follow every leak and read every detail are a drop in the ocean compared to the dozens of millions of people in Nintendo’s current ecosystem. They have nothing to gain from exposing their plans early.

4k isn't necessary. Nothing is really at 4k, its "upscaled" with is just a fancy way of saying that its 1080pm sent out on "4k" signal.... You only need higher resolution if you've got details that can't be shown in 1080, and those are few and far between for a small device.
There's no way, this can do 4k of any type, dlss or not. Ive been using dlss on pc for a while now and lets just say we'll get fps increases at 1080p with for most games.
Or maybe the switch 1 games are so optimized that if you run them on a switch on steroids with proprietary technology you get 4k like the rumours say. Until I see a studio pulling 4k (and Nintendo state so on the reveal) without the game being playable in the first switch I'll believe it.
But you know that it depends on the points, If it were a turn-based RPG game, I would want quality because there is no point in having more FPS, if it were an FPS shooting game, it would be better.

The time before every Nintendo console release is always just so fun. One thing I don’t hear about so often is the inevitable new hardware function which will enhance the gameplay experience. While we have seen the console, I bet you there is a function that nobody has seen coming. Nintendo doesn’t do just a spec bump on a new console release. (Same series - yes, but not with a new console release - even if the name is the same, 7 to 8 years will result in more than a simple spec bump) It may be small, but there is at least one innovation that we don’t know about yet. This is Nintendo, after all. (and No, not Smellovision, lol)
-We need: Better specs Better qc'ed joycons Themes An actual store and not a membership subscription More soul to the console (no shop music, no console homescreen music, black and white only themes?) -We dont need Magnetic joycons (bad idea) A ever so slightly beefier switch (should have been done for switch oled) Another subscription model
Honestly 12gb ram is pretty low these days. Especially if the OS needs 2 of it. A lot of handheld PC struggled with 16gb and all the ones releasing this year all have 24gb+ to match the demands of modern games. Nintendo always seems to be two steps behind and if the performance isn't a generational leap, I can't see people upgrading for 15-20 more fps (if that with a 1080p screen) when they already have the switch OLED which already looks great.
@beatlejuice1165 optimization that requires the development teams to spend time doing which is why 1st party Nintendo games will do just fine. The performance increase isn't going to be enough to run cyberpunk, black myth wukong, Alan Wake 2 without the development teams putting in the work and if the switch 2 doesn't sell well, it'll give them no incentive. Not to mention coming out with hardware that's already slightly outdated means it'll just fall further and further behind through time.

A lot of game development teams hated the two different xbox specifications but with upscaling technologies they started to lean on them more heavily across the gaming industry which isn't good for gaming in general. I would rather buy a 500$ switch 2 with power closer to the xbox one x or ps4 pro with 16gb ram, 120hz 1080p screen than a 350$ upgrade that is going to rely on upscaling for modern game. I am sure the switch 2 will be perfectly fine, will it sell even half the amount of the original? I highly doubt it...especially with how good an switch OLED looks.
If it doesnt fix the lack of rear paddles then I dont want it. Trying to play driving games or literally anything dependent on good rear analog controls is a nightmare on the switch.

i could see 1080p to 4k with hardware upscaling but it wont add detail ,it will just add taa blur and smearing taking detail away.

It’s all about optimization. You say 12gb isn’t a lot, yet Witcher 3 is running on Switch with 4gb.

my 3070 struggles with every single title at 4k, with 8gb and my system memory is 32gb
