Sadly it is true. But, I do believe in the mission of Tesla and Space X. Musk just does not have a disciplined person who can give him frank advice and not get fired. And it does not seem like he keeps anyone like that around in his personal life. The bad thing about this is Musk's childish tantrums will be used to attack Tesla and Space X. I believe that will result net negative affect to most of us will be negative. This whole thing is a debacle.

PS. I meant that Elon should not threat Apple as he has no monopoly here. But I was aware that possibly Apple has one and it may be an effective argument in court. But still, threats are not a good solution here. Elon needs lawyers, not twits.

Worth mentioning that a huge amount of App Developers only pay 15%. The 30% kicks in once the gross revenue hits US$1M. That's still a (relatively)low bar to clear, but it actually means that truly bootstrapped apps pay a really low premium for access to one of the best app platforms there is...
Apple is still greedy, don't get me wrong, but this is an... odd battle to fight.

The issue is that Apple doesn't allow other app stores on their products. This is different from Android's Google Play that allows alternatives from Samsung's App Store and other smaller players.

I was once a true believer in Lord Elon, but upon doing even the slightest bit of research, I am now a devout atheist.
I have in the past been impressed with Tesla and spaceX for being innovative and doing things other companies haven't and that gave me an impressive view of Elon but since he has bought Twitter my view of him has tanked big time.

LBRY is wanna be decentralised TH-cam. You could see why there would be concerns with the content on a decentralised network. I'm not entirely sure what kind of moderation is in place on LBRY, but it would definitely not be the same as TH-cam or other large players, hence Apple's concern.
Or it could be just another run-by-night ponzi crypto scheme. I'm sure many will jump to argue that a lot of people are involved and that it might change the world. However those people would be more credible if they weren't invested in that system.

Having to disclose when and why you block applications seems like a legitimate ask of a monopoly, and Apple may lawyer away at it as much as they want, they clearly are a monopoly in their market.

It can be an issue even without the lack of an algorithm. Say you want to share some content that is explicitly hate speech or something that the internet unanimously agrees should be present. One could share this content via say Google Drive (or something similar) but then there is someone with the power to censor it.
With something that is truly decentralised, that entity would not exist.
Personally, I would like to know what keywords Apple asked LBRY to censor? Was it political in nature or something else entirely. I'm not a fan of how LBRY are not providing details.
Apple is usually not the good guy with App Store related incidents, however, I'm leaning towards them until more information on this comes out.

It's well known that the best way to gain your customers' trust is to go to war with them.
When it was confirmed that apple indeed made their old phones worst as soon as a new one hit the market I got furious, I vowed to never use an apple product ever again, and the small petty things don't help, like changing the charger every new model, or being the only one that doesn't use the USB-C.
Although, this time, I'm swallowing my pride and siding with Apple against the space Karen.

I don't think that was ever actually confirmed. What they did do was reduce performance when ur battery started to die, which in general is quite far. You don't know how many normal users of any battery powered product I know will call it a "piece of shit" for it dying at 20% charge. My iphone never does, and it really gets dog slow when you only have 1% left. It makes certain users happier, and I in return can rely on this device to still handle payments even if i forgot to charge it and went to the store anyway.
It's like Musk has been caught in an abyss that he has no other choice but to keep digging deeper.

The Apple vs Epic case (appeals are ongoing) is interesting and related to this and among other things involved anti-trust claims.
Straight from China, they literally are working with the government removing any app that the CCP are requesting, also they removed all the vpn apps from the App Store. More on that, recently during the protests in China they did a change where the Personal Hot Spot can only work for 10 minutes

If Apple really wanted to strike back, they could spin up a Mastodon server and offer an easy account to everyone with an iPhone or an iCloud email address.
Some people believe (incorrectly) that Mastodon is harder to use than Twitter. This would sway a lot of them.
The issue with any social media group, be it Twitter or Mastodon, it is actually the moderation/legal/content side that is the most important. Sure there is a certain technical entry requirement but this isn't the critical stumbling block. Even Mastodon is controlled by its many server owners. Apple wouldn't mind the IT overhead but they do NOT want to be a social media company with all the attendant associated drama and effort. Social media companies are closer to a law firm than they are an IT company.

I've heard people say that Twitter actually LOOSES money on Twitter blue, if it's purchased through the Apple app store. Twitter blue removes half of all ads, which, according to some sources, costs Twitter an average of about $6 per person in lost ad revenue, however 70% of $8 is only $5.60.

This all reminds me of TV series "The rise and fall of Reginald Perring" Where the boss owner was deliberately trying to destroy his business as he was fed up with money and his life. The only thing in Reginal Perring he only ended up making more money (which made him even sadder) whereas Elon is losing it.

30% Isn't that abnormal a cut. If you bought goods from a shop, their profit on each item is roughly a third, with another third going to the maker of the goods as their profit and the final third the cost of making the goods and shipping them.
If 10 years ago they set the number to 15% then people would be complaining now that 15% is too high.
30% is/was the industry standard. Some like Epic charge 15%.

I think Musk believes if he can win a major name and shame game, other companies will be feared into submission.
So in his maniacal beliefs he picked a fight with the biggest guy around. He misjudged the situation, his own abilities and the abilities of Twitter.
Personally, I rather see a hastily done, partially unfinished video than a polished video that comes as 'a condiment after the meal' as we would say in Dutch. But so far, TLDR I believe manages to find a good balance and this one is perfectly fine for me too.

The value of most of these things is based on potential interaction, for example prime time TV advert slots cost way more than 1am slots becuase more people will watch them. This is the same, just becuase companies are dropping out for ideological reasons doesn't mean others wont see the benefit of being able to advertise to an even bigger audience. As usual with musk it's short term turbulence for long term gain, look at Telsa, or paypals early years vs now. Plus it's now actually being run like a business not an adult daycare center for privileged Californians who can't handle anything outside their safe spaces.

I have heard that advertisers are also having difficulty accessing analytics they use to evaluate ads, so they have no way of assessing if their ad spend is worth the investment. Which is another reason not to run ads on twitter.

An alternative could be that many platforms get declared "common carriers" (under US law). That's more relevant to Facebook, TH-cam, ect. but that and the anti-trust cases could worry Apple and Google.
That could work but it's fairly fragile as the FCC debacle re Net neutrality showed.
