    Argentinasaurus: Am I a joke to you?
    "The largest T-Rex to roam the earth."
    No, just no.
    It's the largest fossil specimen of a T-Rex found to date.
    There were probably some exceptional T-Rex that got even bigger, but we have yet to discover them, or they never were (most animals didn't when they died) fossilized at all.

      *T. rex
      Yeah, you're definitely right, but that would require that anyone on the news actually care enough to bother trying to be correct. This is a fluff piece, I doubt anyone there is putting in too much effort outside of the paleontologists and such being interviewed.

      "There were probably some exceptional T-Rex that got even bigger" - Perhaps, but we need evidence/specimen to prove that. That's how science work. More proof, less guesswork.

    • @godofthecripples1237
      @godofthecripples1237 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mstr293 Dinosaur science is _mostly_ guesswork.

    • @KurNorock
      @KurNorock 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mstr293 A lot of science is done by "reasonable and informed estimation". For example, almost none of the animals living on the African savanna have had their top running speed actually measured even though you see "X animal can run Y speed" statistics all the time. The best you can hope for is some scientists in a land rover, driving across the plains at 45mph and looking at a gazelle running in the distance and saying "Yeah that's about the same."
      As far as the size of t-rex, Paleontologist Thomas Holtz once said "You can expect individuals of any given t-rex population to be 10%, 15%, or even 20% larger than Sue". And he based that statement on the size variation between individuals of modern animal species. Just look at humans for example. There is no reason to assume that of the 20 or 30 some-odd specimens of t-rex that we've found, that we have found the largest individuals that ever lived. T-rex as a species was around for over 3 millions years and there were likely hundreds of millions of them, if not billions of them, throughout that time.
      Knowing that, it would be absurd to look at Sue or Scotty and say "THIS is the maximum size that t-rex could possibly grow".
      So no, we don't actually need evidence of a larger specimen to make the entirely reasonable statement that "there were probably some exceptional t-rexs that got even bigger." because the odds that there weren't are astronomical.

    • @Calum643
      @Calum643 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      That's firstly due to you just seeing bones without the bulk of muscle and flesh added on. "Rexy" (the name of the Tyrannosaurus in the first Jurassic Park) is actually pretty accurate in terms of length and height. Just above average actually. Her size does change a bit through the movie though, depending on the CGI or animatronic model.

    • @t-man5196
      @t-man5196 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      gb_2000 depends on the shot, in the shots using the animatronic t-rex (being that it was being portrayed by the 40 foot long animatronic model made for the film by Stan Winston studios) it was 40 feet long. In some of the CGI shots of it however, it appears anywhere between 60 and 70 feet long.

    • @t-man5196
      @t-man5196 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      gb_2000 apparently it’s not official because a 70 foot long, 35 foot tall creature wouldn’t weigh 7 tons
