    This is my first video with my new camcorder, a Canon Legria HF M46, about a beautiful Dodge Charger R/T with the orange livery of the "General Lee", the famous Charger driven by the Duke cousins in the TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard".
    Here you can see a famous italian drifter, Federico Sceriffo, trying to make some drifts (powerslides) with the muscle car.

    We think it's cool that someone is actually driving that car. Like really driving it, not just taking it down the quarter mile. No disrespect to the dragracing guys, but this definitely requires more involvement from the driver, and gives back more in terms of fun and adrenaline.

      +Drift.ro Yeah, you can see how much the guy was enjoying it in the first part of the video when he had his arm out the window and in the air.

      That's obvious, and I'd say that every drag racing guy would agree that drifting requires more attention and skill. That's especially the case with something like a 1960s era Charger. Cars from that era were definitely better suited for straight line performance.
      I have ten times the respect for someone who can do that in an old 60s muscle car than in some modern sport compact, sports car, or even pony car. They didn't have the tires, suspensions, or nannies to keep you from losing control back then. It takes pure driver skill to handle an old car like that.

    Everybody in the comments keep talking about how this car weighs sooo much. One guy down there claimed it weighs "4,900" lbs. I didn't know the Duke Boys drove a Chevy Tahoe!
    Just kidding. The curb weight of a 1969 Charger R/T with the 440, is actually only about 3,650 pounds. That's pretty light for it's size and seeming heft. Look at some newer cars to see how light this thing actually is. With some more work under the hood, that car could've ran circles around that track waaaay better than that.

    • @blacksunshine1089
      @blacksunshine1089 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Hype679
      That's about what a new Mustang GT weighs. That's crazy when you consider that the Charger is a good couple of feet longer.

    • @johnnymitz
      @johnnymitz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I own a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham, with a 400ci big block in it. It has been on the weigh scales a few times. It weights 4700lbs. Now, consider that it is a true 20' long (I have measured it). Now also consider that a Chrysler Pacifica (not the 2017 one) weighs the same and is about 5' shorter. And that a modern-ish Honda Accord weighs almost 4000lbs, when it once weighed 3000lbs, or even less. Crazy.

    • @Hype679
      @Hype679 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +johnnymitz It's mainly due to all the safety equipment and regulations we have these days. All those bells and whistles add on weight down the line.

    • @johnnymitz
      @johnnymitz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Hype679 Agreed. And I believe that many of those safety systems in modern vehicles today actually can make a worse driver because they give you a false sense of security. Steering Assist, Hill Assist, Parking Assist, Obstacle Avoidance, Creep Control, and so on. I also believe that older cars have a certain amount of fear factor into them; steel dash, ball-screw steering, no air bags, non-power assisted brakes, and so on. Sure, for the most part these were inferior to their modern versions, especially steering and brakes. But the fear factor is gone in modern vehicles, so that old right-of-passage that I grew up with (start with a slow cheap car as you first one, then over time work up to a fast one because your driving skills have improved) is no longer there. It is the lack of this that makes today's first drivers have accidents (that, and smartphones). But hey, I am dinosaur on this belief.

    • @Hype679
      @Hype679 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnnymitz
      I also feel like money is a factor. Many of the folks my age are at ends financially. We couldn't get that fast ride we wanted at a younger age. No moving up the totem pole here. Smartphones are literally our generation's version of Darwinism. If you need the phone that bad, don't drive. And as a person who's driven old and new rides, I'd say they both have pros and cons. Some new cars are pretty scary in a pinch, surprisingly. Snap understeer is not fun.
