This is the first video that Ive seen, and I've been already convinced to get a lynda subscription some day soon, this is better than anything on TH-cam or Google.
Great video, using phantom power with a ribbon is almost always fine though because the mic will have a balancing transformer or amplifier at it's output. The phantom power current will not get through!
Explained absolutely perfectly. Awesome video. I never knew anything about rib and Mike's. At times I use an h4n zoom pro recorder. It has the two built-in condenser mics on the top. Do you know if those are powered by default ? Thanks. Keith
Best mic capsule to make a homemade contact microphone? I have the esisgency to test some materials and among them is brickwork\pietra, etc. ;i can you help? Thank you.
Yes but the output level is fairly low and you’ll need to have a good preamp with plenty of gain. Be careful with the phantom power it will blow the mic.
ok so i have a question i throw battle events witch are all vocals and we record them for youtube the camera mics are crapy obviously but i wasnt sure if i should just get a decent rode mic or get a recorder with a mic on a boom n the ehole 9 any thoughts
as well i might be introducing bassfull instrumentals for them to vocalize over in a crowd setting witch mic would be best for both or is a seperate thing
CIT Communication, Media and Music why are people stil keeping that myth alive. At the moment l only have 9 ribbons, never had any trouble with fantom power. Years back, over 25years ago we just opened a ribbon and just put a measuring device on the transformer just to be sure. Of course this is why it is called phantom power!

You can get the same info easily from Google... And more detailed information from Google. Haha
Very professional, clear information. Thanks.
Excellent video and good production of it. Helped me understand the microphones better, thank you!
One of the best videos ive seen on mics.

That depends entirely on the ribbon mic. Haha Even with transformers, some ribbons will still pop. It's better to just be safe. X)
Excellent overview! Very concise. Nice to see, for a change.
Sounds like Garfield. Awesome tutorial. :)
I was wondering why that voice felt so familiar 😁
Amazing video! One small point, condenser microphones vary capacitance between the backplate and the diaphragm, while charge is held constant.

Thank you for taking the time.
Great product, worth the money
May I use this video in a class I teach?
Some ribbon mics do require phantom power

Wooww!! Ton of stuff learned
This was a very helpful tutorial!
Thank you! Great video.
So Sennheiser ME2 and ME4 microphones are which type ??
So with a ribbon mic how do you get the sound out? Just hook to an xlr cable and it works?
Yes but the output level is fairly low and you’ll need to have a good preamp with plenty of gain. Be careful with the phantom power it will blow the mic.
why the breathing at the beginning.
Great video!
great video, learned a lot.

thx 😊
Odd. Ribbons usually have the least hi frequency response of the three.
Well done
Some of this is accurate. Some of this, not so much.
Nice explenation.
thanks dude
10 years ago and I haven't seen this???
thanks alot
nice
Cool...
I’m here for school
Why don't they have a microphone that does it all?
craigbrian I think it’s because of physical restriction - it’s like mixing a sports shoe and a stiletto together
The diaphragm of a SM58 is definitely not metallic. Otherwise a nice video.

Ribbon mics have great HF response? What? does this guy know what a ribbon mic is?
Do not buy this course. This info is about 50% accurate.
Can you please suggest more accurate videos/sites in this subject? I'm trying to get familiar with this kind of stuff.
Good animations but a lot of inaccurate explaining.
yep - and after I recently made a post to correct some things, they just seemed to have it deleted ?!!

Kim Jong Un*... Is gay.
Good tutorial, but why sound is so bad???
