@@nightmarishcompositions4536That dark dlc area od Elden Ring was not bad but its nothing against these things man... I was legit scared because of how powerless you are against them and the sounds they made were...freaking awful.
Makes me wanna write a story: I see the ominous forest many feet away from my resting area, the path to the entrance filled with handmade signs warning all to stay away and find another route. But my quest demands that I conquer all odds against me. The fog clung thick to the ground as I stumbled through the woods, the only sound my ragged breathing and the muffled crunch of leaves beneath my boots. The moon barely pierced the canopy, leaving me in a murky twilight, the trees looming like dark sentinels. Every fiber of my being told me to turn back, but there was no going back - not after what I had seen. Then, I heard it. A soft, wet sound, like something heavy and slick dragging across the forest floor. My heart seized. I stopped dead in my tracks, my pulse thundering in my ears. Slowly, I turned, and there they were. Two of them. The creatures moved with an unnatural grace, despite their grotesque appearance. The one on the left seemed to be composed entirely of twisted tendrils and eyes, dozens of eyes, each one fixated on me, unblinking. Its body was a mass of dark, slick tendrils, squirming and pulsing like a living nightmare. The other was taller, more skeletal, its body latticed with glowing sacs of light, pulsing like the beating of a heart. As if it were alive with fireflies trapped inside, its yellow glow cast grotesque shadows across the trees. They didn’t make a sound, but the air around them felt charged, like the moment before a lightning strike. I couldn’t breathe. My mind raced, screaming at me to run, but my legs were frozen. I’d never seen anything like them-like something from a fevered nightmare brought to life. The one with the glowing orbs tilted its head, as if studying me, curious. The tendril-creature twitched, its mass shifting, and then, without warning, it moved. It lunged, its body extending impossibly fast. I ducked instinctively, the wet sound of its tendrils snapping through the air just inches from where my head had been. I bolted, adrenaline kicking in, forcing my legs to obey. But they were fast. So much faster than anything that large had any right to be. The glowing one let out a low, humming sound, almost melodic, but it thrummed through my skull, disorienting me. I tripped on a root, crashing to the ground. My vision swam, the world a blur of motion and pain as I scrambled to my feet. I could hear them closing in, the wet slithering of the tendrils, the crackling hum of the glowing one’s light. Panic clawed at my throat. I was not going to make it out. There was a small clearing up ahead - maybe if I could make it there, I’d have enough room to evade them, to find some cover. I sprinted, each step sending a jolt of pain through my limbs. I reached the clearing, but my heart sank. It was a dead end, surrounded by thick, impassable trees. I was trapped. I turned to face them, my back pressed against the rough bark. The creatures emerged from the shadows, their forms monstrous and alien in the pale glow of the one’s light. The tendril-beast’s eyes seemed to widen, its entire body rippling with anticipation. I had no weapon, no plan, nothing but the primal instinct to survive. As they closed in, I saw it - a faint shimmer in the air between them and me, like heat rising off the pavement. I couldn’t explain it, but I had no other choice. I ran toward the shimmer, hoping, praying it was something, anything that could help. And then, as I passed through it, everything changed. The world tilted. The creatures paused, confused, their forms flickering like a broken image. For a moment, I thought I was safe. But then they shifted, refocusing on me, more intent, more hungry. The shimmer had bought me seconds. Just seconds. But sometimes, seconds are all you need. I tore through the woods, my body fueled by fear and desperation. I could hear the creatures behind me, their unnatural movements sending chills down my spine. But the shimmer had slowed them, and that was enough. I wasn’t sure how far I had run before the forest gave way to a road, the dim lights of a distant cabin flickering in the distance. I had survived. But as I collapsed on the roadside, gasping for breath, I knew it wasn’t over. Those things were still out there, lurking in the dark, waiting. And they would come again should I ever venture into that forest once more.
when you listen to it deeply. its a song of agony. pain and suffering. almost longing for something that is no longer lost. a lullaby to comfort something in a world of madness. a world of nothing but pain. and even with the madness taken over , the frenzy all consuming. the singing goes on. broken. over and over. like the mourning voice of a widowed lover in a cosmic sea.
I just found these guys today. Actual horror in a souls game. Fantastic, my favorite enemies! Too bad they fall prey to the parry this you filthy casual meme. I can now really appreciate this ambience. Its just as unsettling and terrifying as the aging untouchables themselves.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 Considering the entirety of the frenzied flame lore, these guys are what happens when you're not built different like the Tarnished or Midra.
The way the Lanterns just stare at us, with those penetrating dozens of eyes, sticking out from every spot in that morbid gigantic brain, while standing in a way as if undead or possessed... With that decrepit and horrifyingly long body. The singing as if trying to lure out those in lingering despair of even the smallest bit of hope... Just to devour their heads and brains. Bloodborne is a masterpiece, not only because of its gameplay and level, but because of it's symbolism, it's original way to interpretate different concepts and feelings. But overall, it's ambience and environment. It shows so masterfully, a world in decay, despair, putrid and bitter. A world were horror is the only thing you will find even in the warmest most safe corner of Yharnam, horrors that plague the human mind terrorizing the weakest of our points: the mind itself... The fear of what we do not see, what we do not know, the fear of god, what it may look like, of the great beyond and what there may be beyond our simple human comprehension... 11/10 experience
Physically they are monsters. Mentally they are completely insane. But the scariest thing to me is that they had to become warped in every way just to get a tiny glimpse at something so vastly unknown and alien out there in the cosmos. Which leaves us with the question, that the hell is happening out there in the stars that is so horrifically chaotic and nightmareish?
has anyone else noticed that the song they sing is very similar to Gascoigne's music box and Mergo's lullaby which ties into the whole thing of it being twisted familiarities with the doll and messengers
There’s layers upon layers in Bloodborne, everything we see is an extension of some form of dream, nightmare, interpretation, delusion etc. It’s fascinating and mind blowing.
God, the comments.. I love the community of bloodborne. I think I was finally able to find my people. Souls, who also like to wander away to different places, visit other worlds. Absorb its air.
