    Good to be able to hear from the law enforcement side's point of view. We often are denied that opportunity. Most retired law enforcement ride off into the sunset without looking back.......for good reason.

    Mike, I remember running into you when you were a detective on East Broadway. You were so cool because you could have taken me in, but, you saw I was not making it obvious what was going down. I respected you because I figured you were in law enforcement and I was not going to disrespect you. I was doing my thing back from 1970s when Chinatown was classic and right into the mid 2000s. When the Fuzhou guys came in 1991, they were really all so nice and I never had any incidents with any of them and had great times!! All of you, Kenny, Jimmy, Speed, Big Head and if I left anyone out, I apologize as you are doing the Chinatown Gang Stories are bringing back lots of memories and really great stories! Thank you for sharing!

    19:33 Yes, that's true. Gamblers believe that it's bad luck to tap on either shoulders as that's where some sort of luck flame sits on. I think there's a third spot on the top of the head too. When I was a kid, my older folks (parents, aunts, uncles) used to tell me off when I tapped on their shoulders while they were gambling. This is an original, universal Chinese superstition - I'm from South East Asia and it applies here too.

    On The Left Coast, there were full scale nightclubs with an "Asian Only" clientele. Upwards of 1,000 people a night. Staffed by "off duty" peace officers. On duty agents from every alphabet soup agency were always on the scene in plainclothes. In some cities, the local "Pee Dee" would actually assign a marked car or prisoner transport wagon to park in front with the light bar flashing. Various special units would make a show of force in tactical gear. And yet, the fights still happened - along with the shootings and stabbings. The suspects thought that they were getting away with it - blatantly in the face of law enforcement. Until the indictments listed and detailed every assault, battery, shooting, et cetera.

    I had to laugh at the "bad temper" comment that Chris made. The old academy churned out tons of cops with a "bad temper." Imagine having to line up, nut to butt, with the whole gym block (12 companies and 20 minutes), to shower in a filthy / moldy shower room, with only 5 working shower heads, standing in ankle deep dirty water, and with everyone coveting the corner shower. Do that every working day for 6 months and you leave an angry cop.

    I think adding the Chinese subtitles might help to get more viewers. 😅

    • @yankees29
      @yankees29 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same goes for the interviews in Cantonese. Some of us viewers are American and we only speak English. I was really hoping he adds subtitles to Big head’s interviews. I grew up in NYC and I’m Italian and Irish. I had quite a few Asian friends growing up. My good friend’s dad owned a huge Chinese restaurant out on Long Island and he let us hang out in the back when we were kids.

    I know the retired cop must suffer from some mental health issues, potentially ptsd and other forms of crime. NYPD there are good and bad badges and it's hard to say who's on the take. In any event he probably bounced at the club and they probably have some dirt on him and he has some dirt on them. Trust for him will only be obtained via leverage... At least that's how it was in Wan Chai HK clubs and pretty much the same in tsim tsai shui clubs. Lfk was a bit different.
    I'm sure he's had his share of illicit drugs and what not. I'm talking more than just a bit of weed and hash.
    The pr girls are typically referred to has pro in many places outside of NYC or even gro. Public relations officer or guest relation officer. Some freelance, but many make money for the club owner. In fact i would say most make money for the club owner.
    And the Asian men that go there... Most. Of the Canto wives tolerate that.. Even if they don't like it (some really don't care). The Fujian wives could care less. If your bring bread home, you can do as you like according to 90% of those broads.
    Also tell him that he's lucky he's not doing this in Wan Chai. Not that he's a bad guy, but he seems a bit hot headed and he would disrespect too many folks in hk to be walking above ground. You'll be lucky if they just give you a tune up in Wan Chai. Learning about the cultural differences could cost him a lot in health.
    Nice video, but the truth is the average person or overseas ABC will never fully know how the life is unless they had direct exposure to this.
    Nothing to be proud of. Just happy to be healthy and walking.... Hahaha

    seems like a reasonable guy. seasoned cop, not too much of asshole, lol kidding hes cool. although im sure he wouldve gotten shot or stabbed at a vietnamese coffee shop/karaoke regardless. theres been so many instances in cali where vietnamese came back and started shooting, stabbing or burying the back of a hammer in a securitys forehead.
