    Thanks for the video, very informative. My mom's Sratus needed a battery in sub zero temps. I opened the hood and said WTF!? Never saw anything like that in my life. Next day (today) watched your video fixed it that night. Thanks again

    The 09 Dodge Avengers had the same location, I got used to doing them with one floor jack and one jackstand.
    The worse one I had, I wish I knew what I did with the picture, you'd get a chuckle from it.
    OVER 2 INCHES THICK OF GREEN AND WHITE CORROSION on the plus and minus cables ! ! The plus cables had to be replaced , the ends were gone! The negative took some cleaning, but it worked.
    The tray, brackets, bolts, etc were bead blasted and repainted with Rustoleum black paint, and FINALLY all put back together!
    This vehicle had several Periodic Maintenance Inspections or P.M.I.'s before I got it, so the saying that day was....."P.M. MY ASS!" Memories. Great Video!

    Engineered to make money for basic service for temporary parts replacement: Parts like battery and thermostat. The company asked the engineers to find a way to prevent the owners from performing basic maintenance. This Stratus wins the "DO NOT DIY" award.
    Hard come easy go!

      Thermostat on an 04 stratus is easy. It's right on top under the cap. Took me 5 minutes to swap it.

      +Alex Jennings Are you sure that you know what you are talking about? HERE IS A LINK TO THE PROCEDURE THAT MOST PEOPLE FOLLOW:www.justanswer.com/dodge/2zb6p-replace-thermostat-2004-dodge-stratus-2-7l.htmlOn TH-cam the channel that has more videos about 2004 Stratus and Sebring is the "1A auto" channel. If it were as easy as you mentioned, they would have had a video to help them sell more thermostats. You should record a video yourself because the following video tells another story. The title is "How to replace thermostat Chrysler Sebring" and it is on the "fix it Angel" channel.

      +Generatorblue Generator blues Well I've been driving and repairing my stratus for 8 years so I'm positive I know what I'm talking about. To clarify I have the 2.4DOHC 4cyl not the v6. Also your link shows up as error 404.

    • @generatorblue
      @generatorblue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Jennings Sorry about the link!
      I got the same message. Then I removed all the words (characters) that showed up after the word "stratus" and the link worked.
      Here is what the link should look like before you press enter:
      www.justanswer.com/dodge/2zb6p-replace-thermostat-2004-dodge-stratus
      If you copy this link and paste it. other characters will be added after the word Stratus because your computer could be saving your browsing history. Make sure that you delete all the characters after the word Stratus starting with the "-2" all the way to the right. I have not seen any thermostat replacement procedure for 4 cylinder Stratus. Have you seen a procedure or video that shows how to remove the thermostat the way you do? If not, you must have found a easier way to do it.

    • @TheFallenAngel13524
      @TheFallenAngel13524 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the 2.4 is simple as hell.
      Open hood
      Locate cap
      remove 2 bolts
      lift up housing
      remove thermostat

    Great video! I had to do the same thing with my stratus expect I didn’t have all the tools and even a shop to do the project. I needed to get to get to work so I just did it in my drive way right here in the city, it only took about 45mins!
    Made a video on it for anyone who wants to do it fast, with few tools and on a budget.

      Hi Thomas - I think it was a 06 or 07 VW beetle, spent 20 minutes looking for the battery. Well an hour later I loaded up the shotgun and called the owner and said its probably best we put this thing out of its misery. They wanted me to save the poor thing so I spent most of the day extracting the battery out - not sure it went back the way I tore it out but it did survive and it's still on the road today . The End :)

    So,Eric, I hadn't watch this video because I thought it was just a run-of-the-mill battery replacement, I'm glad I did. I thought the old VW's were bad because they have them underneath the rear seat . They were awkward when you had to jump the battery . Not quite as awkward as this .

    Yea step one remove the tire to access the battery pretty crazy! Chevy HHR Headlight bulb replacement is the same process, I just removed the inner fender and called it a day :) I also came across a 1985 Corvette that had 2 brake lights out, and i had to reach up between the muffler to access the bulbs!!

      Stanley Hill My 2006 Miata was the same way... plenty of access to passenger side headlamps, but the fuse box was in the way on the driver side. Luckily, I could pull enough of the fender liner to get the new bulb in with the tire still on, but it was not fun working entirely by feel with those stupid little clips.

    Great Job most people I know would just replace the battery and nothing else

  • @harveysmith100
    @harveysmith100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The design engineer probable got a pat on the back for that one. The criteria was to keep the weight as low as possible and use empty voids. Yes well done. That just goes to show how detached some car builders are from the real world. That looked difficult with a lift, I can imagine how difficult it would be without one. Still none of that matters, the centre of gravity is lower and we have saved space, we have built a better car, hooray bonuses all round, Dodge is safe in our hands.
    No, you will sell plenty of those cars short term but the reputation of a car company isn't based solely on the first owners, the second hand value of some cars falls through the floor purely on stupid designs like this battery position. As cars get older and budgets get tighter, access to the battery becomes more and important. Can you let us know if there is a place in the engine bay to attach jump leads and or, the facility to disconnect the battery in order to work safely? Thanks Eric, that was a great subject to show.

    • @caitlinmcmanus1353
      @caitlinmcmanus1353 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are jumper connections under hood, it is a stupid place for battery yes, but all in all not that hard to replace, there are much harder things to do on these cars.

    ..... What a pain in the ass. Tempted to just put the car in neutral and push it off a cliff. Then I don't have to pay the insurance or taxes on it anymore. I hate this car with a passion. Also tempted to push it half way down the road and call AAA to have them deal with it. I should be able to open the hood to charge the battery. Not perform ceremonial magic rites on the vernal equinox to summon the gods of Dodge certified mechanics every time I need the damn thing jumped or anything else done to it for that matter as it seems they want to make everything as difficult as possible.
    What's next? A removable oil pan just to put oil in the car? How about a windshield you have to take off to replace the windshield wipers? Oh, I know. Why don't you put the place where you fill the gas underneath the car. Dodge should hire me to make their next Stratus extra awesome. I'm sure with enough smoking pot all day I could come up with all kinds of crap to make their cars impossible to do anything with.

Found the oil filter at the back of the engine shoved between the exhaust down pipe and the drive shaft. after 10 minutes of cursing at how tight it was on and trying to maneuver a oil filter wrench onto it I grabed a screw driver and hammer and stabbed it to get leverage it worked but made a mess.

    What the EF? ? ? OMG, that's a very inconvenient way to maintain and replace the battery....Why did Dodge mounted the battery inside/behind the bumper ? Chrysler wanted this design as unique as possible ?

    My 04 sebring was in a front end collision before I got it, so the jackasses removed the plastic cover on the inside of the wheelwell.
    So I had to go get some junk plastic and make my own housing for it. It works for now, can't be slinging snow at the battery every time I drive, but if I ever have to change my battery now I gotta rip it out and make a new one

    What an awful place for a car battery...

  • @johne6081

    Ah ... yes; I owned a 2003 Stratus for awhile, and I remembered the weird battery location. Yup -- only car I have ever owned that required wheel removal for a battery change. :(

  • @GNX157
    @GNX157 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    May seem like an odd place for a battery, but I've seen some that were under the hood that were a bitch to get out too. In front of the wheel though it's much cooler than under the hood, heat being a major killer of batteries. Probably why this one lasted so long. Leaves a bit more room topside as well.

    I might be the only one in the comments, but I prefer the battery to be in this location. If you are engineer t makes sense because you don’t have to run complicated wiring to the rear of the vehicle.
