This is my favourite Ginger Root song. My girlfriend and I were both in the top .001% of listeners to it on Spotify wrapped. This video was the first thing I saw from this artist, and I was immediately hooked and became a Superfan. Obviously, the storytelling is with this one. But it wasn't the storytelling alone that hooked me. I wasn't thinking to myself, "Gee, I better stay tuned to the end to find out what happens!" It's more that the visuals and storytelling communicated to my brain the amount of care that also went into the songwriting and production. Had I simply overheard it in a coffee shop, I might not have responded the same way. I might have Shazamed it, and went, "Cool, sounds kind of McCartneyesque." It would be a screenshot in my photoroll. But seeing all the dedication that went into making this film made it clear that this is special. It looked fun to make, it got me invested in this as an artist. It is expressing a vision with a care and a craftsmanship I have always wanted to exhibit myself. I can live vicariously through it while also feeling inspired to make the most of the creative possibilities before me.
