HUGE thank you to both @Zach.Attack & @eatsunknown for volunteering for the roast! It was a lot harder to find things to roast than you might think (they're doing so much really well)!
I literally can’t figure out why I have one of my videos as a huge outlier when my content is all similar. One video approaching 15k while most of the others sit around 300 views.
Ah back at it again with the comment engagement strategy! I’ve got to say out of all the TH-cam strategy channels this one has become my favorite. It’s not dull, and you’re giving legitimate strategy. Some others just feel like they’re repeating buzz words and trends that can’t even be confirmed. Hoping to get a roast in the future. I’m launching a kids channel this month!
@@NathanMcMasters Roasting Kids? That is going straight into the Hansel and Gretel folder - Nate surely that would be the " wurst folder" I'd better show myself out now....😂😁🙆♂
@@Thebeautyandthebeardadventures i saw your thumbnail/titles. Not good. You need to remember that TH-cam title/thumbnails are less ‘describe the video’ and more ‘elevator pitch’. If you only had 7 seconds with someone in an elevator, and you needed to tell them to watch your video, how would you advertise it? (You’re allowed to carry 1 photo: that’s your thumbnail).
For example in Sunrise Memphas food video, actionable change would be to show a picture of food. No restaurant advertises their food by waving their logo around
@@Thebeautyandthebeardadventures and lastly you just need to get better at filmmaking in general. Im not asking you to be Martin Scorsese or Caset Neistat. And I think the quality of your phone is perfectly fine right now on TH-cam. But you seem to be lacking many fundamentals to the creative/technical side. It just feels too green. Gotta go back to TH-cam school and figure out how to make videos, TH-cam/Google anything. Sorry if all this was a bit harsh, but it’s really honest advice. You two seem like real genuine people and the spirit of the content you make is what TH-cam was made for. Your spirit is awesome, your techniques are shit lol
I found that a big point that might be missed that Nate said is that people need to be looking for what your video is about. Only after a long time and a lot of success does YT give a hoot about your videos. The only way to get views is having a topic that is being searched for. Search is very different to the normal YT algorithm. If you feel ignored make a video about something being searched for that does not have much competition. Trust me you will suddenly be noticed.
@@HeadBangerExtreme we totally appreciate the raw, unfiltered, review and advice! Your honesty about our videos is an eye opener. Without it, we would learn nothing. As “The Beard” does the majority of the recording and editing, he admits the difficulty and learning curve. Your comments will fuel his drive to learn better cinematography skills and techniques. Your advice was BANGIN’!! Thank you for the tips!
Nate, i appreciate your roast! I’m listening to everything you said and taking notes! To a couple points.. i do 100% agree with the titling issue. Didn’t even THINK of that! So smart. Second, As far as “having more fun than the viewer” we ARE having a blast… we’ve been friends for 20 years and we have so much fun doing the show. None of it is scripted or acting. (Except for the skits) one thing I would note, we do “patron boxes“ where our patrons can send us food to eat live. Which includes them in a sense! But I will definitely keep what you said in mind. Finally, you’re absolutely right about the thumbnails. This is all completely new to us and is something we’re figuring out! And I need to step it up on that end. My thought was “let me throw a bunch of different stuff at the wall and see what sticks.” Which I totally see how that could be confusing. I feel like my couple last ones have been better and I’m only gonna get better. Much love to you, dude, I appreciate all the constructive criticism. - CHOPS OF WAR 😎
Ayo is Chops of War himself!! You have the greatest sense of humor man! Love hearing your thoughts, and thank you for letting me have some fun with this. Your energy on camera is AWESOME, and I absolutely think you should continue with it. That candy video I referenced is a really solid video Also, what is your name? (Unless you prefer your new name better 😆)
@@ThatNateBlack hey thanks my dude! My name is Lawson. & we’re very new to TH-cam. Learning as we go. One thing I’m proud of is each episode is getting a little better.. Appreciate the kind words, Nate. Much love you you! And one thing that i learned from this video seeing as you couldn’t find my name, title cards to say who we are. It’s such an obvious thing and a dumb oversight on my end. Sam is a high end chef forced to eat garbage every week.. people should know that!! 🤣
funny because "pork butt roast" is such a common thing that I imagined you, showing up and the portly pork butt has literally in the comments pregaming early, still raw, already drunk, and counting on you to season it.
It's such a fun video to watch-full of humour and yet so respectful. Watching your roasting has made me see my own blind spots. If I were to be roasted, I would like the focus to be on the engagement I have with my audience, especially how I can encourage them to interact with me more. Btw, mayo can taste good, but you need to get a good one (like the famous Japanese one, yum).
8:25 this is a wonderful point that not enough people appreciate! -- recording yourself having fun IS NOT ENOUGH! You have to have your audience BUY INTO THE FUN, FEEL LIKE THEY'RE COMING ALONG W/YOU, otherwise it's like you're at a party while a bunch of people who've known each other for 15 years are drinking and reminiscing and telling in-jokes and generally not including you, and you're just sitting there watching them, not talking, and you're not allowed to drink b/c you're driving them home. OFF TOPIC: this is why I didn't LOOOVE that Beatles documentary that came out a few years ago. Musically/historically interesting, but I felt like I wasn't part of their fun. Your mileage may vary!
A lot of streamers make this mistake as well, which is even worse because it's a major part of their job to interact with chat. Ignoring your live audience is a major turn off for me.
This was a really helpful video, but I especially perked up at the 7:45 mark when you said you never want to have more fun than what you're including your audience in. I'm going to try to engage my audience more, whether I'm livestreaming or recording gameplay. So thank you for that. Now, I need to remember to do it!
I struggle most with packaging. Especially the first 30 seconds (for me that belongs to packaging thumbnail, title, intro) how to hook people and confirm the video at the same time and not giving away everything without being obvious about it
After spending the better part of the past 13 years of listening to social media gurus, you are by far the most authentic channel to help fellow TH-camrs and explaining things in a way that makes the most sense (at least to me) 🥰🥰🥰
YES! So excited for a new roast! Edited to say I feel like the thing I need most help with is finding the balance of what my audience wants vs what I feel like they need. Hopefully that makes sense. These were good could you give us some even more practical tips on how to dial things up or back? Thanks for all your videos! I just love them!
Yup, on what to include. My answer (at this point: I'm still in the preplanning stage) I'll use the topics that are commonly popular as the main content and the topics the audience needs to know but are not aware of, in the bonus section as an answer as to why the main topic is important but not the primary issue.
Naaaatttee! Man, it was awesome meeting you at Vidsummit, buddy. Was really cool to finally get to talk to you face to face. Your class over there was far and away the most engaging one at the convention, too. Stay classy, man... You're the GOAT
We really need to increase delivery and appreciate the suggestions! Also got to get as good as you at dropping the organic like boops and comment suggestions. Your game is on point! See we are commenting!!! All our best!
I think i am actually the biggest shorts creator in my niche, but I always feel like something is still holding me back, it would be very interesting to have somebody from an outside perspective point out where i am still lacking😄
I kind of wonder looking at your channel if people are burnt out on just Shinobi striker? Like maybe it would be helpful to add another game that's adjacent to this one?
@@V1ktorGee thx for the input and for having a look at it. Yh, i also had the theory that ppl only watch that much ss a week and even if i'd put out more content the vids would just take away views from each other, except regulars, most probably only watch shinobi striker videos once in a while, but for me i think it really kinda makes sense to specialize and niche down, bc as a professional esports coach i kinda hahe a unique seeling point in this scene specifically and if my channel stays strictly shinobi striker i may not reslly make any significant amounts of money with my content, but i can build a very loyal audience that trusts me a lot and have a lot of cool option to setup memberships specifically catered towards them. Members only vids obviously with guides on more in depth and advanced stuff, strategy guides, proper training units, unique insights from real esports that most of them otherwise wouldnt have, a private discord, i can give them my business number so they can directly contact me and i answer within 24 hours and regularly have a look at their gameplay, do replay analysis with them or show then some stuff here and there, playing or training with me etc. As an autistic person i also really enjoy being able to engage with my special interest and I usually mainly just focus on one game at a time. I also usually have trouble getting everything covered that i want to as far as updates etc go, so idk if i would have the capacity to cover another topic on the side. So what i am looking for is more finding out how i can improve what i do rather than looking into what else i could do that would do better. But i get your point. I just dont feel like its the right thing for me to do as off now. I plan on sometime in the future, mayve if the game dies off one day or if i really wanna branch out for other reasons, doing content on gaming theory, esports, training and learning theory, that kinda stuff
@@V1ktorGee would also be interesting just to have some context to know with what exactly you mean by "looking at your channel" what was it that you saw that made you have that thought? I think that would be an interesting piece of information too
@@SenseiiBoba I clicked through your channel and mainly noticed one, the high amount of content you've made on this game (which gud job btw 😁) and 2 I noticed sorting by popular that it tends to be videos from a while ago both in shorts and longform. While obviously that could also simply be from the newer ones being newer such a big difference implies something else. However I don't think your content has gotten worse hence I gave that as a possibility.
@@V1ktorGee interesting... i mean i had a couple of vids that popped off in comparison to others that are older, but i would say in general, except the last 3 weeks, bc the game was down for 2 weeks, i get more views overall tho. And i still have like 3 or 4 short per month that get significantly more views than my avg shorts, thats usually when a new weapon drops that pplnare excited about. I think it has more to do with the fact that lately i just sometimes been dropping a bit of low effort filler content, that i knew that still a couple of people will really enjoy but in the grand scheme of things its not actual proper content. I just had a 2 shorts per day upload streak going for a couple months and i kinda dont wanna drop it. Which is probably kinda stupid in a way, i dont want ppl to see 2 or 3 vids from me and be like "eeeh... wasnt all thaz crazy", but I also thought it might be worth trying to keep up that schedule for a while bc it allows me to still be present in peoples everyday life and show them some cool combos and stuff that they wouldnt really see ingame online while i work on longform content and i think that this might have just built me a pretty loyal core audience that is used to getting advice or inspiration from me basically daily. Also allows me to test out which kinds topics or which types of videos go better or worse usually and i also get a lot of practice in terms of design and stuff. That was kinda my thought process. My channel is growing faster and faster. Altho i can clearly see that on avg my shorts get less views i still get way more views in total and have more shorts that are above what i would usually get amongst a lot of shorts that perform slightly worse than what i have gotten on avg in the past. But yh i kinda had a similar thought, that ppl are just saturated and only watch that much shinobi striker content. Maybe it would make sense to lower the quantity and up the overall quality again, idk. I appreciate the feedback, i just think i would need more data to really tell. Thats why its good for me to get as much feedback as possible
Nate your production and video ideas are fire 🔥 (pun intended). Being a topic first channel (unintentionally), I have been struggling to get people to stick for other content. Some videos have 70k plus, some have less than 100. 😵💫
Interesting! So, understanding our strengths and weaknesses plus making sure our thread in every video has a connection to the audience makes for a memorable experience for the audience. I may have worded that wrong, but I feel like I understand what I need to do now!
The thing I really like about you and your channel is I really feel you are engaging and genuine and passionate about what you are saying. Other presenters do the same thing but I can really sense they are 'acting' the enthusiasm. Thanks for the info and the advice!
I'm pretty sure I'm all of those. My audience is SUPER niche, and I started as a tutorial channel, which I'd like to not be limited to. Compared to many channels in my niche, I'm doing too little, and yet doing even that takes an agonizingly long time.
It really does become a second job. I don't know where your funds are, and it's not my business, but could you find someone to help? Maybe someone who needs to build a portfolio for editing and such who would be a bit more affordable?
Hey Nate! I wanna say great video, I'm just making this comment so I can list out a few things I've learnt from this video. 1 - Find what your audience likes about your channel and then amplify it 2 - Find what your audience doesn't like about your channel/video and tone down/remove those elements. 3 - Give viewers a reason too stick around, e.g involve the audience in the video, have fun with a friend in a video but make sure you involve the audience in that fun 4 - Don't be so chaotic with your videos/thumbnails/channel topics that audiences have no idea whats going on (So make titles/thumbnails which are clear about what are going on in your video), (I do think a bit of chaos on a channel can be good, as long as you have videos which are high quality and ALREADY have an established audience, I don't yet so I should steer away from being too chaotic) 5 - Develop your 'thing', aka get the audience to associate certain things with you so that you stand out more in their mind. These are all the major takeaways that stick out too me after watching this video and Nate if you're reading this, hi : )
What up Nate? I have a small channel and I often watch your videos for advice on growing or rather improving it. I think my biggest struggle is being boring. I don’t have a loud or exited personality. That and while my channel is about outdoors stuff (camping, fishing, boating etc…) I think it’s just not niched down enough to be successful. My videos range between 30 views and 130,000 views. And my latest two videos are around 30 views. WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT ZACH COULD HAVE JUST PUT THAT INFORMATION ON A CHART IMAGE WAS HUGE FOR ME. I have a problem with dragging out explanations too. I’m about to get my first $100 check from TH-cam and I am seriously considering giving up the channel because of the roller coaster of emotions from the successful and then highly unsuccessful videos. Congratulations on your success, you have earned it! Thanks for all that you do.
I agree that the Rollercoaster is brutal. But over 100k views and your first check is fantastic! Maybe hang in there? We are are super new, and we'd love to be in your stage of growth. Be well.
@ Thank you for the encouraging words. I came really close to giving up after Helene wrecked the “Wisdom and the Woods” property and left the ponds I filmed my boat videos in completely inaccessible for the foreseeable future. I have made it back there once by foot but you can’t even get 4wheeler back there let alone pull a boat. I’m still hanging in there but I’m afraid the direction of the channel will have to shift some. The algorithm will love me for that😅. Good luck with your channel if you are well spoken and are comfortable enough to be yourself on camera you should do great. I am not and that has held me back.
Adding a common theme in channel videos is a great suggestion. Never thought of that and I think it would help our channel. Thanks as always for solid input and suggestions Nate. Constructive even while roasting. And man light mayo doesn’t go far enough. Stuff grosses me out completely.
Hi Nick, your enthusiastic way to revealing the truth helps us be better creators, and dare I say, better human beings. After reflecting on these poor guys I think I do a good job of stating why I exist in each video as well as the YT banner. I need you to roast me so vigorously that I discover the secret to why I am not involving my audience. My retention is low for the most part. When I have fun and make a video the length of the average view then it doesn’t get watched all the way either. I am almost ready to unconditionally surrender for your valuable services. Thank you Nate. You do a tremendous amount of work and I’m sure your wife does as well still. Have a fantastic week! Russ
There is ONE topic in this video that really turn on a light bulb. Having fun in my video without including the audience in the journey is something I need to work on. Ive been messing with diffrtent style of intros but now I need to focus on talking to an audience. So if I could EVER be chosen for ROASTING it would on my initial GRAB & engangment with my audience.
It's really hard to many creators to cut their footage down, takes a while to realize all that filming isn't important to a viewer, the important parts of it are what matters. 60 minutes worth of footage could mean a good 5 or 6 minute video or even less.
Great roasts, Nate. One video I wish I downloaded was from a few years ago. You uploaded a channel review on the Project24 site. Unfortunately it looks like they've taking a bunch of your videos down now, but there was one video review in there for a gaming channel that was communicated so well about why it wasn't working. I now work with channels to help them grow, but I wish I had that one as a reference. Keep up the great work.
I am a polymer clay artist and the one thing I struggle with is trying to figure out how to do well when most youtube help videos don't explain how to translate some of the tipsspecifically to art
Thanks for this video. I was in a funk when I watched it three weeks ago and needed it. It helped me rethink and adjust my style to add more while retaining my informative side.
Time management to Ashley put up a video has been my roadblock lately. Love your videos. The time management is on me and that’s what I have to work on first.
I have a very weird and very specific issue. I’ve been doing social media for over 13 years and finally gained almost 2 million followers. Then I plateaued and never recovered. So now, for some reason, I find it really hard to make videos even with things I’m passionate about. Do you have an explanation?
It sounds like you reached your goal and were happy about 2M but then you probably needed to have a new standard to reach for. Make new goals? What is the purpose and reason behind what you are doing and is what you are doing getting you there?
I feel like Eats Unknown is trying to position themselves as 'The defining attraction" of the video. I feel like it should be the food instead. Food bigger in thumbnail and more B-Roll and more food angles needed to break patterns.
Nate this one really hit home. I started to get some great movement on my channel a few weeks ago but it’s landed flat in recent weeks and it’s all my own doing. Message heard loud and clear sir!
I think for me is the rhythm of the video. How long or short the idea of a segment is to convey the message without losing. When I make my content, I try to make it based on the questions how and why. I find myself when I watch other’s content those two questions popping a lot. So I try to be an audience while I create content.
I think I might have a 'dry' problem with my channel too. I do videos on a mixture of AliExpress and Microbrand watches. But the Microbrand ones always seem to get far fewer views. I always thought it was just those type of watches... But now I'm not so sure. I think I need a good old roasting.
We watch so many travel vloggers and they always show themselves trying the food they order...and we've been tempted to do the same but have not fallen for it. We show the food on the plate, sometimes show the empty plate, and then talk about if it was good or not. But chewing? That just seemed a step too far. Glad to hear our instincts were right!
A little over a month ago I started posting TH-cam videos and man has it been a lot of work. But yesterday I finally monetized my channel!!! Everyone keep grinding and it will happen with consistency.
Second Comment. These roasts are enlightening and fun - great stuff. Excellent actually. However, they are probably best for the channel that is perking along but not growing to thier potential. I'll start my new channel in the next month or so. One thing I hope to avoid is the chaos that frequently comes along with a new project. Random information in no particular order and priority scattered around. Things like notes in a spiral notebook, sticky notes and scrap paper in little piles on my desk, multple word docs in different folders. Essentially a file system that puts everything in piles of 1... As I said, Chaos. This is somewhat managable while still in the learning stage (where I am right now) but important information and action items quickly get lost in the overwhelm of production. A video (or series) explaining the overall process of running the channel to include the "back office" as well as content creation would be greatly appreciated. Possibly even well watched by your audience.
I am so happy I watched this video! A real eye opener for me! I just recorded a video and would have finished editing it, but the lightingin the video was so bad, I decided to throw it away and start over. But I was going to start over with the same idea...and after having seen your video, I now realize I need to make my video completely different, so my viewers will enjoy it more and I don't bring a boring video. So thank you, Nate!
Hi Nate, Your videos have been a great safety net for us - they have prevented us from several moments of rage quitting. "Roast the story telling" "Roast the editing" "Roast the everything" Thank you for the content and hopefully see you in RYT!
Please go into issue #4 more! Feel like this is a great topic to explore, especially for different types of channels. For Roasting: How to structure reviews? All info up-front, have a funny intro related to item or just dive in, "live" unboxing vs edited, detailed walkthrough or just highlights?
The face you made at 5.40 made ma laugh so loudly! Thank you so much, I love your videos (and yes, I liked it already). Also very useful and more entertaining than your competitors
Your ability roastucate people is amazing. I love your no nonsense and the fact you never come off condescending. You have quite the talent there. Love your channel.
Lol brilliant as usual. I am getting braver by the day and no doubt will soon show my face in my videos and now, thank goodness, I know that I need to cut ALL scenes of me chewing, hahaha!
I was a channel you roasted in the past & I've really been trying to use your suggestions. I'd love before and after roasts if you want to do them of previous roasted channels - did we improve our game or are we still doing the same lame things? Always open to a re-roast, Nate. BTW, the threads advice is very good!!! I'd also love info on appealing to niche audiences & advice for DIY crafters as I think we often get ignored in YT advice channels. Ours is a hard niche. Saw your latest vid on long videos & noticed this one was a 15 minute video - taking notes on how you kept us engaged to stick around. Would love to hear your comments on that! Any and all advice on thumbs & titles as they're damned hard to do.
Hi Nate, loving these brutal roast sessions-dark roast is definitely my style! I'm throwing down the gauntlet and daring you to take on my channel next. I want you to go all out, leave no stone unturned, and no survivors. I’m talking a full necromancer-style revival just so you can slay it all over again! Let’s see if you can really turn up the heat and give my content the fiery critique it might (or might not!) deserve. Looking forward to seeing if you accept the challenge. Bring it on!
Thank you. I appreciate all your videos and suggestions. I've been working to do a good job....i began concentrating on my channel 03/03/2024... made 30 videos in 30 days... then went to 2x/wk. 04/27/2024... began a podcast on my channel... and post those episodes 1x/wk. I'm thrilled anyone has found and watched... yet...i feel I'm missing the mark somewhere. I'm working on some new updates.
This is so helpful. I suspect I fall on the boring end of the spectrum but I am trying! I would love my intros roasting and guidance on how to improve them. Thanks! 😀
These videos are always entertaining but also insightful. I think the biggest problem with my channel is probably relevance. the game i'm currently playing dropped in popularity quickly after release, and i took nearly a year long break after starting ( personal issues ) Pretty positive i don't talk enough, or sound excited enough though, despite it being a very chilly cozy game, its not as entertaining i guess. still up for a roast though as long as you're not too harsh :P
Thank you for the tips. I don’t know what I want to do yet but I love the idea of taking the audience along and saving time especially with comparisons by using graphs. I never enjoy watching people sit there and eat. Maybe taking a bite but no more than that.
I could use a roasting. A question I think about often is am I doing everything right or is there something that is hindering me from doing better. Is it Thumbnails? Hook? Titles? Am I following a broad niche when I should niche down more in the beginning then widen my content? So many questions...
I saw the community post yesterday about a new roast and I woke up to something delightful! Roasts are the BEST. And thank you for saying that about eating and chewing on camera. I'm a surgeon and i see a lot of gross things. (A LOT.) But I can't handle the chewing.
Hey Nate, great video! After reaching 15k subs within 6 months, our channel stopped growing. Our views have dropped, but we're still maintaining a 60 percent audience retention rate with those who do watch. How do we get out of mid-size channel hell??
This was great advice nate. I have a gaming channel and I started by making guides but I am leaning into edited let’s play videos now. It’s been hard trying to move within another niche but with regular uploads now I feel I have the opportunity to gain that audience I was looking for. The “several video uploads to keep them around” is the one that dunk in. Thanks for the help again mate 👍🏼
Its always great to have a honest perspective of our channels. We are doing the things that we believe are the right things. How do I sign up for a ROAST.
I’m booping the like button, Nate!! I’ve been working on growing my channel more consistently and always appreciate your entertaining teaching style. Are you saying as a beginner (my channel is not monetized yet) I should be focusing a bit more on search terms?
My channel is more than open for roasting because I don't edit. I want the real human experience for the kids of the future who are already bombarded with AI. So if I mis-say a word, or have to clear my throat, or mess up on the craft portion of my videos, my viewers get Auntie Dana in all her natural human glory.
Oh I never miss a chance to comment on your channel. I'd never miss an opportunity to get roasted either. If there was anything specific I had to be roasted on, it's my retention in videos.
Here’s the thing though, I can’t just get to the point in my videos. I’m climbing a mountain to a beautiful view. If I go directly to the view it might as well be just a photo.
Uhoh, a preference for dogs and a dislike of mayo 🚩😂 Have you ever tried Japanese Kewpie mayo? Maybe you'll prefer that. Love how your roasts are always informative too ❤
Suggestion to Zach Attack's channel description, replace that "Just another guy" for something more strong like "That one eating dude that does X" or something similar. Now he just presents himself like just a regular guy and nothing spectacular, while you should actually be that one guy who stands out! You got this
Love this channel! I watch a lot of TH-cam strategy content and this channel has the most useful, well-explained content that also happens to be entertaining. 🙂
That roast was well done! I guess my issue is that I’m making a very niche factual channel relying on weird and wonderful footage that’s pretty difficult to get. Find your videos very informative though.
I know I am a unique niche which I like, there isn’t tons of competition, but I’ve been playing around with thumbnails and titles and I don’t know if it’s my thumbnails or titles that aren’t drawing people in.
I'm always impressed on how many informations you're delivering even by simply analyzing someone's channel... my issue is though that they seem so clear and logical while I watch you but then, when it's time to apply them I epically fail😂. But I'll keep on trying. Thanks for the huge help and support you give us 🎉
Hey, Nate! I've decided to dive back into TH-cam after a little hiatus, and I'm glad I came back to your channel, because videos like these are always super helpful! So, thanks! As for your ending question, if my channel were to ever be roasted by you, I'd probably specifically want to know if my attempts at mixing education with humor land or if I should take a different approach? Thanks!
As a past roast survivor (or maybe more like victim 😂) I’m always so quick to click on these videos. Now to evaluate if I’m doing too much or too little lol
incredible video, as always, Nate!!! Love the roast videos, i learn so much with these! Your channel is the single greatest YT growth strategy channel. None of the other channels do it for me, you really tackle stuff that matters!!! And super personable too 🤘
Nate, I so appreciate your candor and your wisdom. Thank you for making these kinds of videos. We can all benefit from seeing how others miss the mark.
Thanks Nate! Learning by doing and absorbing + having insane blast getting to "know you" throughout watching your content! Get nostarcyclist, roast him and have fun!
I loved this, and think I might have a bit of Zack’s problem. I know my delivery can be a little dry. I don’t know if you can roast for this, but I’d love to figure out how I can make my channel spread more. People say really complimentary things about my videos; I’ve gotten many letters from people saying I’ve changed mystery writing for them. But my growth seems to be really static.
Love the video and also this is exactly why I consistently ask for a ‘soft roast’ haha. No, it felt like a good, honest review. I also feel like I can use what’s in this video to look at my own work. To answer your question about what I’d like help with on my channel (roast topic), I suppose I’d like to know most if I’ve got enough of that “stuff” to be on camera and hold ppl’s attention OR should I stick with audio narration over images of movies when talking about them? (Remember that I can’t use clips of movies and monetize so it would have to be a montage of movie images as the visual). Thanks!
HUGE thank you to both @Zach.Attack & @eatsunknown for volunteering for the roast! It was a lot harder to find things to roast than you might think (they're doing so much really well)!

“I watched a video that could’ve been a chart” is the new “I survived a meeting that could’ve been an email” 🤣
😂😂 underrated comment
😂😂😂
Epic comment
TH-cam will, and does, ignore our videos no matter what we do….
That candy video I referenced is a really solid video
Also, what is your name? (Unless you prefer your new name better 😆)
@@ThatNateBlack Lawson.
@@eatsunknownDude, keep da "Chops of War" name! In am instantly intrigued by that name. It's a subtle thing but a little genius too.
More roasts lol
You said roast and my fat butt showed up immediately lol
haha!
funny because "pork butt roast" is such a common thing that I imagined you, showing up and the portly pork butt has literally in the comments pregaming early, still raw, already drunk, and counting on you to season it.
Love that advice of including the audience in the fun. I’ve redone takes to make sure I say “let’s go…” or “we’re on an adventure…”
Agreed - inviting the audience in is a key takeaway from this video!
Love the roasts 😆👏 and thanks for the tip of including the audience more! Mayonnaise lover here 💁🏻♀️
I struggle most with packaging.
I love the way you put that first sentence, and more so I feel it.
You too!
Ok I think you’re just what we need for help with our channel. I have some binging to do!!!! Thanks Sir
We really need to increase delivery and appreciate the suggestions! Also got to get as good as you at dropping the organic like boops and comment suggestions. Your game is on point! See we are commenting!!! All our best!
I’d love to get a Channel Roast! 🔥
Same 😂
I think i am actually the biggest shorts creator in my niche, but I always feel like something is still holding me back, it would be very interesting to have somebody from an outside perspective point out where i am still lacking😄
Dude I get it. Even multiple videos about hit same topic are hit and miss, like when I do build videos.
1 - Find what your audience likes about your channel and then amplify it
2 - Find what your audience doesn't like about your channel/video and tone down/remove those elements.
3 - Give viewers a reason too stick around, e.g involve the audience in the video, have fun with a friend in a video but make sure you involve the audience in that fun
4 - Don't be so chaotic with your videos/thumbnails/channel topics that audiences have no idea whats going on (So make titles/thumbnails which are clear about what are going on in your video), (I do think a bit of chaos on a channel can be good, as long as you have videos which are high quality and ALREADY have an established audience, I don't yet so I should steer away from being too chaotic)
5 - Develop your 'thing', aka get the audience to associate certain things with you so that you stand out more in their mind.
Russ
Thoughts on making a new channel of shorts are main views and long does not do that great what should I do
There is ONE topic in this video that really turn on a light bulb.
Food bigger in thumbnail and more B-Roll and more food angles needed to break patterns.
agreed.
a close up, detailed shot of a surstromming can immediately tells me I'm going to want to see what's happening in this video.
@@financialphilosopherssurstromming? (nm I looked it up.)
Yep. The one thing I tell my clients is to be mindful of the hero.
You’re not wrong!! Been trying to reflect that more in the thumbs too! New to this and all advice helps! Thank you!
Nate this one really hit home. I started to get some great movement on my channel a few weeks ago but it’s landed flat in recent weeks and it’s all my own doing.
Message heard loud and clear sir!
Hey Nate (formerly Nick)! You have permission to ultra roast my channel on video topics! Thanks for all the advice you give, it truly helps
Not being an English native speaker, I always thought it was "no holes barred", no idea why... 😅
Nate!! Great stuff. I think this is right on target! I was guilty of this, but as you say, always think about your audience. Good video!
I like your energy, I think I need to (attempt) to increase the energy I put in my camera presence. I learned a lot from this, thanks!
Hi Nate,
Your videos have been a great safety net for us - they have prevented us from several moments of rage quitting.
"Roast the story telling"
"Roast the editing"
"Roast the everything"
Thank you for the content and hopefully see you in RYT!
Please go into issue #4 more! Feel like this is a great topic to explore, especially for different types of channels.
For Roasting: How to structure reviews? All info up-front, have a funny intro related to item or just dive in, "live" unboxing vs edited, detailed walkthrough or just highlights?
Bro, I almost spit out my drink when you said “mayo is the worst”. Idk why I wanted to let you know that but there ya go. Good video.
I am getting braver by the day and no doubt will soon show my face in my videos and now, thank goodness, I know that I need to cut ALL scenes of me chewing, hahaha!
at some point we need a gaming channel roast, they are a completely different ball game so i'm curious how much of the advice transfers.
Thanks! 😀
Awesome. Thank you. I really needed this.
Also. Can we have potatoes and carrots with the roast? (lol)
You know, in all honesty, I am really content with my 1 subscriber. I appreciate your videos and the information you share. Thanks!
Been watching this channel for a while and this is the first time I feel that the advice given directly relates to what I do. Taking points
Hi Nate. I, too, suffer from dry video syndrome.😂 Any ideas on what the "mayo rage" equivalent is for an educational chemistry channel?
These videos are always entertaining but also insightful. I think the biggest problem with my channel is probably relevance. the game i'm currently playing dropped in popularity quickly after release, and i took nearly a year long break after starting ( personal issues )
Pretty positive i don't talk enough, or sound excited enough though, despite it being a very chilly cozy game, its not as entertaining i guess. still up for a roast though as long as you're not too harsh :P
its so fun to watch. I am not sure whether I am ready for your roast! but kudos for Zac and Unknown for being such a good sport!!
Hi, Nate! I saw you at VidSummit in Dallas. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this episode! I'm kinda coaching a few folks in my community and episodes iek this are a wealth of knowledge to share with them.
Great video, thank you for your input. YT is a weird beast, it's a constant work in progress for me. This video helped.
I’m booping the like button, Nate!! I’ve been working on growing my channel more consistently and always appreciate your entertaining teaching style. Are you saying as a beginner (my channel is not monetized yet) I should be focusing a bit more on search terms?
Very good advice and am certainly glad I have steered clear of the very eccentric topics.
Hah... also out here for a roast😅 Man I am hungry now.😂
Love the advise. Thank you for putting in the work.
Here’s the thing though, I can’t just get to the point in my videos. I’m climbing a mountain to a beautiful view. If I go directly to the view it might as well be just a photo.
Uhoh, a preference for dogs and a dislike of mayo 🚩😂
Have you ever tried Japanese Kewpie mayo?
You could technically send the McDonald’s burger to someone…
it wouldn’t go bad because their burgers aren’t real🤷🏼♀️
And super personable too 🤘
This video helped me tremendously Nate!!! Thank You! Gotta keep in check for boring sometimes I forget !
Nate, I so appreciate your candor and your wisdom. Thank you for making these kinds of videos. We can all benefit from seeing how others miss the mark.
How do you get reviewed again? I forgot.
Another great show. I thinking our channel rambles…and the second half of the team is really busy and rarely appears… so content is one sided.
Hi Nate, great advice as always, got any videos about how to take advantage of a video blowing up?
Thanks Nate! Learning by doing and absorbing + having insane blast getting to "know you" throughout watching your content! Get nostarcyclist, roast him and have fun!
Always learning so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and giving us all a few giggles along the way. 😊
Great video. What does "not including the audience" mean (07:50)? The camera is rolling, how do you include them more than that?
Such a good point on including the viewer, going to focus on this!
Thanks!
