@@Contrary22 Saying Joker is as easy is Cloud is crazy to me as someone who plays both 💀 Joker is easy with Arsene because at the level I play at, Arsene *is* the gameplan. I can just spam my super buffed moves without thinking and get a big reward for it. At the top player level though, even with Arsene it almost looks as if they're playing with base Joker the whole time, and base Joker is definitely hard. Joker has a ton of options, but at the top level he has no clear gameplan or flowchart. Even though Arsene is executionally simple people eventually stop walking into your hitboxes
I think the takeaway is characters like Kazuya and Peach require far more character specific knowledge and tech whereas characters like zss and inkling require more overall game knowledge and experience to win matchups
Kazuya and peach are not at all comparable in terms of difficulty, peach still requires a ton of overall game knowledge on top of character specific tech, Kazuya only really needs ewgf
Yes I hate how people refer to Kazuya as being hard when you can master ewgf in like in hour in training mode, he has no other hard inputs@@TheLogBerry
The Banjo at the end was just spamming the same stuff lmao - this is why you learn to Z-catch his grenades and throw them back at him. Or at least when you're using Joker, use them to get Arsene. If you take away the one thing that the Banjo player knows how to do, they're toast.
Ellie Smash just means you're good at using unreactable panic moves or you know basic matchups enough that you can read decently well, Nintendo wi-fi makes it very not matter
He’s not hit and run, he’s just RUN Also he absolutely can go for extended engagements since he can combo so much more easily than other characters due to his absurd physics and spindash.
I think the one thing missing from this discussion is when the work is being done. A character like incineroar might not have to work hard once he gets in but getting in can be like climbing a mountain. Playing a grappler at high level is a different type of difficulty that requires a lot of mental stamina to not just give up after being hit by the 800th fireball so you can capitalize on your one moment
Trying to break down archetype is silly when discussing "easy" vs "hard" characters. It comes down to three aspects most of the time when discussing the difficulty of a character: 1. How many times do they need to win neutral 2. How obvious is their best option in any given moment 3. How strong that option is (including plausibility or precision needed).
playing zss feels like the character is held together by scotch tape and glue 😂 there’s no character i have more fun playing tho so i think every zss player just enjoys suffering

He's a glass cannon with decent durability at high percents which is kind of bad design? but at low percents he's more of a fundamentals character than a hit and runner due to his low mobility with decent combo potential and comparably mid neutral game since he has low range and slow projectiles
Yeah, you bring up a good point about difficulty vs. skill level. Most people who play this game aren't top level players, and it shows by the characters you run into online most often.
Fr tho, I main ganon and that is unbelievablely easy and same with roy to an extent, but I recently picked up bayo and it is a bit harder, but still just as satisfying as winning with ganon or roy
The problem with vars' video and most of his videos is that he describes smash characters as though they were designed with competitive play in mind while that is blatantly not the case. Archetypes definitely exist on the character design, but what he calls hit and run are just characters with good neutrals but lacking in certain areas such as advantage or bein prone to reversals. They require immense precision, which is why they're difficuly. That's why I actually prefer marss' term of neutral monster.
all you have to do is learn a couple combos and learn how to frame trap and you'll usually win against most players and characters just by out damaging with every interaction you win + taking stage control
I don't understand if you don't do Orio's video as content "because his logic is probably better explained by him" or You don't recognize his content because you are trolling. Giant and extremely safe moves and pokes + literally not having disadvantage (flip jump) = hard char? Marss himself has said more than once ZSS is an easy char. I don't find spamming safe moves until it finally lands into a combo very hard ngl. Playing ZSS eliminates most real-time risk-reward calculations that you make in-game. Maybe it's the online ZSS's I play but I can't think of another char that has a more hold-forward point and shoot playstyle tbh. I also like how that video showed clutch moments by Marss that had nothing to do with character difficulty but just Marss being godlike lmao.
