Greg thanks for making me a smarter and better official each season. You’re a natural born teacher with a knack for infusing a great sense of humor into this subject matter. The body of work you have created is something I often go back and refer to when I need a refresher. Thank you for your dedication to us, the game and ultimately to the kids who find so much joy in this great pastime of ours. F. Paul Figlia
One of yourshow supporters, Jerry Ettrick, I’ve worked with him before. Wears more icy hot on him than an entire NFL locker room and glares at me if I make him do a long switch. 😂. Can’t wait for the new season and new content.
Hi Thank you for all the education and insight helps my game out tremendously! I had a Gray area question. at what point is the ball in appearance or out of bound when the ball crosses a sidelines or baseline? for example, throw the ball to teammate gets tips going out of bounds. The coach catches the ball before the ball catches. The floor is out of bounds possession team or interference with Coach at what point do you gauge either side thank you.
When a ball is forcefully directed out of bounds (swatted shot or pass) it frequently is touched by people out of bounds. Bench personnel, fans, table personnel.) If a player still has a chance to play the basketball and someone out of bounds PREVENTS that opportunity, then we could have a situation that would lead to a penalty. So, if a coach was in his coaching box a ball is deflected out of bounds and an opponent is in position to save the basketball but the coach prevents that opportunity for them, the coach would be liable in that instance for a technical foul. They are not allowed to interfere with live ball play. Judgment will come into play in this scenario. Did the player really have a chance to get to the ball? Was the action by the coach intentional? Was it just an habitual catching of the ball and they weren't even aware that a player was coming to get it? The bottom line here though is that the coach is not allowed to interfere with live ball in this scenario so they would be liable for a technical foul if in your judgment that is what occurred.
Hello. Should we be calling a traveling violation on Play #1? The passer pivots/spins on his left foot, lifts it then returns that foot to the floor before releasing the basketball. I have really struggled on spin moves this season. By rule, is this not a travel? Should it be called? Thanks for any insight. And thank you Greg and everyone else who's commented throughout this season for all of your help. I am confident I got better as an official every Friday because of all of you.
Evening Sir. I have a few questions that maybe you could help me with. Is it on all levels of basketball that a team can call timeout immediately after their own made basket? And is it considered a dead ball after a made basket?
@@NapalmNash no. After a scored goal during play, substitutes are not allowed. But if a substitute has properly reported, they are allowed after a final successful free throw.
I was looking at all the things and noticed a bunch of shirts! Do you always do that or is that some kind of end of season Easter egg? (Happy Easter everyone!)
I love what you're doing for the referee community! Keep it up
Alright Greg, I have rewatched the entire season and now it's time to get going for the 2024-25 season! Let's all get better together, again!

Goal tending is my call for the first play.

@@BetterOfficials thank you for the detailed answer and break down! I am a better official because of your knowledge! Thank you again!
Thank you for another great season! Any HS official should invest in watching your videos!
Thanks Paul! You obviously have excellent judgment!😅
@@BetterOfficials better than my judgement was ever on the court! LOL

Defintely could be called. Pivot lifted & returned.
Evening Sir. I have a few questions that maybe you could help me with. Is it on all levels of basketball that a team can call timeout immediately after their own made basket? And is it considered a dead ball after a made basket?
Yes, the ball becomes dead after a scored goal. While the ball is dead, either team may request a time out.
@@BetterOfficials but if it’s dead, then doesn’t that mean an official has to let subs in after every scored bucket?
@@NapalmNash no. After a scored goal during play, substitutes are not allowed.
But if a substitute has properly reported, they are allowed after a final successful free throw.
@@BetterOfficials Cool, thanks a lot!
it looked like 5 blue traveled on a spin move before the pass to the cutter. I agree it should have been a goaltending call.
It a “ B” by the 4th quarter sticker I assume that means Bonus 😊
I was looking at all the things and noticed a bunch of shirts! Do you always do that or is that some kind of end of season Easter egg? (Happy Easter everyone!)
Easter Egg for Easter!
Goaltending. Ball was on its downward flight.
Goal tending
Gerry Attrick. Lol
