i very much like seeing the part where distortion takes place.... i've personally also been increasingly sick of painting realistically- when i used to paint in acrylic i had a very specific style that came about naturally just by working around the limits of the medium- when i switched to oils i did lose that, but it also gave me the option to really choose where i want to divert from realism, what to lean into and what to put the lid on, etc... i think the point where you start seeing those differences emerge is one of the most interesting parts of painting

Totally agree! This coming year I want to investigate new mediums and see how they might expand oil's properties.
