A Better Approach to Starting Portraits?
Keep going! That's an impressive tree. It looks like a film photo shot through a mild diffuser. Cozy and nostalgic.
@@danlscan Oh wow I love that description! Thanks!
hahah, i loved this !! like a pixel art cubism vibe . and the colors !!🤩
@@cherielov3394 Oh I like that, thank you!!
i very much like seeing the part where distortion takes place.... i've personally also been increasingly sick of painting realistically- when i used to paint in acrylic i had a very specific style that came about naturally just by working around the limits of the medium- when i switched to oils i did lose that, but it also gave me the option to really choose where i want to divert from realism, what to lean into and what to put the lid on, etc... i think the point where you start seeing those differences emerge is one of the most interesting parts of painting
Totally agree! This coming year I want to investigate new mediums and see how they might expand oil's properties.
i think it's a deer... elk look more like deer wearing halfhearted moose costumes . I might also be wrong! either way its a very nice painting
The mystery persists *but* I did learn that, whatever this mysterious animal is, it *is* an "ungulate." (Because it has hooves.)
Love the style, and getting inspiration again! thank you thank you!

@@bossbacon302 Aww, thanks so much for saying that!
very interesting style, and interesting thoughts. i really thing this would shine on a bigger canvas. anyway, best of luck
Thank you! I do want to paint on bigger canvases, but they take up so much room and are hard to transport to art fairs. But I'll do it some time!
Keep up the good work. Your tiling technique is bold. Perhaps slightly less pointillistic ( smoother?). Any way-I like it.
Thanks! I've never heard of tiling but I just Googled it and now I'm gonna go learn.
please do more landscapes!

Great painting. Still lives give so many more opportunities for abstraction than a lot of other subjects.
@@douglasriddle6447 I think they might!
You should try painting large scale paintings, I think it could work well with your artstyle!
@@connyandthekid I really want to, especially now that I’m learning how to do landscapes! We’ll see if the smaller ones sell.
" a painting goes really well and you look at it like someone else has painted it ? " this is such a great and elusive feeling . Doesn't happen often enough but when it does it is the fuel to keep painting and improving . Thanks for a thoughtful video .
Yeah, I think that is the high we all keep chasing. Thanks for watching!
Great painting. Really like the content of this video. It is just a fact that people buy more landscapes and still lives than portraits of stangers. But you also have the figure paintings, that people will buy if the figure is portrayed in a motif the buyer likes......dancer, nude, figure in landscape, etc. But one of the great things about landscapes and still lives is it give you more room to experiment. Your painting doesn't have to look exactly like what you are seeing, where if you veer to far in a portrait, it doesn't read with people. Two painters you might want to check out............Tom Thompson, Canadian painter..........and Erin Hanson, current painter
Oh thanks, I will definitely check them out! It's wild being able to change landscape details in ways I can't with portraits. It's almost like learning a totally different art form.
It looks great!! I totally think this technique works for landscapes too. Nice job!!! Looking forward to seeing more of them in this style!!!
Thanks! It's great to hear other people see it, too!
The human brain refuses black in imagery. There is no color black in nature - skip using black and try your luck with the Zorn palette.
I try to consistently comment for the algojuice which must be milked from me, a cybercow. This channel has so little brainrot, it’s very demure, quite cutesy and whatnot. Not what else I could possibly say to improve your odds of being pushed out to your audience more aggressively.
Your efforts are themselves very demure, *very* mindful and when I get that sweet algojuice one day I will sing your praises on most high.
I watched the Slew competition video and was impressed with the variety of submissions he showed . A competition for something as subjective as art will never make every one happy . The finalists were definitely on the realism side and that reflected Slew's taste which is perfectly fine as it is his competition . Enjoying your art , looking forward to your October portraits .
@@TheUndeadOfNight Yeah, my big gripe is that I wish Slew had said he wanted traditional realism instead of what he did say, which was to be very creative and challenge ourselves. But I don’t think he was self-aware enough to realize what he wants is realism. October approaches!
Your videos and paintings are always very inspiring for me. Thanks for making them!! I love your style in this one
@@bossbacon302 Thank you so much for saying that!
