A few things: -If the game recognizes a special attack as a "reversal" then the move armor breaks regardless of it's inherent properties. To have the game recognize an attack as a reversal you have to do it immediately after leaving blockstun or as soon as you wakeup. -That ultra combo that ken did in the movie isn't as good as it could be. Let them fall a little lower after your focus dash cancel and Ken will catch them with all the hits of his ultra doing much more damage.
@heavenmaycryHQ That's how you cancel for this move. Cancelling in general in this game is anything that stops the animation of a move and starts another move. There are also 1)Chains 2)2 for 1s 3)Specials cancelled by super. Chains are when you cancel normal moves with other normal moves, like LP, LP, LP, LP while just mashing that button. You have to link the normals if you want to be able to 2 for 1 after these. 2 for 1 is just a normal cancelled by a special move.
to cancel a normal focus attack - while holding both medium attacks double tap left or right. to cancel moves with a focus - make sure you have 2 EX bars, then when doing a special press (and hold) both mediums, while th medium buttons are held double tap left or right as before. muck around in training mode to get the feel of it down.
@heavenmaycryHQ You cancel by doing a focus attack (hold MK and MP) right after doing the input for the move you want to cancel. To FADC (focus attack dash cancel), just dash right after you start the focus attack.
@yoshimek3 I never "throw one out for no reason". I always wait for an opening or do it after a focus attack. I mean that if you do an ultra after a long combo the damage from the ultra will get reduced a lot so it's better to save it for the right moment.
@DarkGreen2000 Only Gouken can successfully parry in sf4. Everyone else has to use the focus attack. For exapmple, if u use an EX parry with Gouken, he can parry two attacks then lash out equal damage immediately. Focus attacks can only handle one attack then is broken, so watch out for EX attacks when using a focus attack.
by pressing a directional button twice, e.g. right, right. So you do dragonpunch, twice right, twice right again(in order to position yourself under the enemy) and Ultra him.
@Tinkzzappah if u are using a standard controller practise your thumb movements, if your a joy stick player, practise your wrist movement. Try to relx while you do it because you can move lot faster
@TheGlowingKnight FADC's regardless are harder to do constantly than most things in this game. Along w/ the fact that adding huge combos in the beginning are considered Soul Crushers which are used alot in advanced play.
I also think that what you said is awesome and was inspired to practice street fighter 4. Thanks for the tips about what Jessica Chobot is. Now I can beat Zangief.
I actually learned all this from watching Daigo matches on youtube and from local tournies posted on twitch tv. Ryu's Ultra Uppercut won't do its full damage on launched enemies even if the initial hit connects, making his 2nd ultra only viable through cancel on an unlaunched opponent, and on 'bait and counter'. This also makes Metsu Hadoken his best Ultra simply because it can be used as a zoning tool to counter projectiles and connects all hits on launched opponents.
Neither people were the "dummy for demonstration," Infact, there was Albel and Rufus too doing their combos/crossup/ex. To be more direct, however, with Ken, he's easier to give examples of because of his speed and multi-hitting attacks being non-ex required. For Ryu, most multi hitting stuff requires EX (as you can see from the EX Hadoken he did on Ken) which requires more quick thinking than quick character. The point is it was a demonstration, and the characters used should be taken lightly.
It's not all about doing it fast. It's about having precise timing. You have to cancel the heavy kick, which means that just when you see the kick connect, input your hadouken. Just don't do both as fast as you can, wait until you see the kick animation start up, and then stop it.
Sf4 is coming out in two weeks for the PC. I haven't played any SF for 10 years, it will take a LOT of practice to be competitive online. These are good hints.
@Psymonsdream it's pretty much the same with most fighters (excluding virtua fighter, since those games are just plain hard to get used to): takes a few seconds to learn, takes a few days, weeks or even months to fully master...
Cheers for the responses guys...Truth be told, i use the stick..but thats strictly out of habit from playing 2d fighters (emulated) using the stick of generic controllers eg Logitech. I genuinely find it hard to use the d-pad..I fid the d-pad soo hard to use and I practilly burn the crap out of my thumb using it..
i think people are misunderstanding me :) i meen like for example; charging for a special . So i should say, is there a way to speed up having to wait 2 seconds for a move which requires a hold...?
Once you practice it and get the timing its really not that bad. If you play as a Shoto character, try doing a Medium Shoryuken into a FADC. That way you only really need to hit B after you already did the move.
"You'll bring so much pain to their opponents, they'd swear they watched first Street Fighter movie" Ahhh... The greatest Street Fighter joke of 2009 XD
@PhilomathBret I mean only ultras. Because you can do normal moves as much as you want but you can't do ultras as much as you want so it's better to save your ultra for the right moment.
How do you get new characters???? I was playing the game when i first got it and i earned fei long. I had to reset my hard drive on my ps3. Now I've beat the game four of five times with two different characters and still have the default characters. Also...does the xbox version have more characters?
no i'm not talkin about no auto grab button. I'm talkin about if ur getting up there is no escaping it unless the person using him messes up. And how it happens instantly if ur close.
@supersaiyan2ian Shoryuken (昇龍拳, Shōryūken?, "Rising Dragon Fist"), also known as the Dragon Punch in English language media, is a fictional special attack in the Street Fighter series used by Ryu, Ken. nailed it!
this might be a dumb question but its really been bothering me, i have no idea how to install sfiv onto my ps3 hard drive, everyone tells me that itll just pop up but it hasnt, any help would be greatly appreciated
@acmx12 Because his moves are easy to pull off, they have HUGE priority, and Ken is spammed online because of it. Most people will spam the same 3 moves: Shoryuken, Haduken, and his spinning leg kick ( i cant remember what its called). Honestly though, if the person playing as Ken sucks, you can still destroy them if your decent with anyone. My favorite is owning Ken or Ryu people as Dan. SO satisfying.
We weren't expecting Street Fighter 4 to introduce a new fighting mechanic so Tekken 6 might have some new gameplay values that will beneficial for the game.
@Darkson456 ah, ok, just wondering. This is my first time learning street fighter ( i've basically just been spamming supers but i was 5 so yeah...). its kind of nice with them telling you what you can cancel, but i see where you're coming from. But you can always just skip the trials.
what kind of controller would anybody suggest playing this game? the standard, the slightly modified one (with just a d-pad and the LB and RB buttons next to ABXY buttons) or the arcade controller? or is it all just preference? i just want to know whats more effective at improving ur combos...
There isn't any way to combo the demon in because it's just a grab. Your best bet is save your meter for ex moves and pull out the ultra off of a mixup, though it isn't guaranteed to work.
@Tuffadandem I play just fine with the D-pad, but it took a while for me to get used to it. I've never tried using the analogue stick, so I wouldn't know. If you wanna get serious about the game, though, you should probably buy a Street Fighter IV arcade stick.
It's SF1, then Alpha 2 (which replaces Alpha 1), then Alpha 3, then SF2, then SF4, then SF3, then 3rd Strike. All SF2 games are the same storyline. With SF3, there is a normal storyline and then the 3rd Strike storyline. 2nd Impact may or may not have an additional story, I'm not sure. Makes a lot of sense, I know.
If you have the cash to spare and you like fighting games (or want to get into fighting games) this is the best choice you can make. SF4 is a superb game and every bit as much fun (or more) as I was having with SF2 back in the arcades in '91 - '92.
With the forty available characters in Tekken so far, I won't mind it if they use the same game engine as the last Tekken because the quantity of playable characters in a fighting game can expand a variety of concepts regarding how great one character is.
@TheGlowingKnight I've seen a lot of FADCs into Ultra on Twitch tv tournies. I've also seen a few FADC that fails to go into Ultra (good bye two or even three bars). High risk-High payoff, depending what type of player you are.
hey i got some crazy question: does anyone know where to buy such a bag that ryu always has on him? the bag he always carrys with him, i wanna have it :D
im new to SF, and all of this looks too complicated. using a normal xbox 360 controller also, so this doesnt help. combos are hell to pull off. any hints on sagats combos?
Yes, of course. You need skills to play Tekken! I just love the way that the fighter's hands don't even touch their oponent yet still cause damage. Brilliant. I'll admit not all the SF series have been good but SF4 is brilliant and as good as Street Fighter II.
@simplelife88393 yea i was looking them up and the arcade stick is at around 70 bucks. but this is something i want to take a little more serious than normal, and the d-pad is just not doing it for me. so i'm probably gonna end up getting it when the money comes around. thanks for the help though. apreciate it.
Doing an ultra after a combo is pointles, I did some testing in training mode and it turns out that the ultra will do less damage if done after a combo then normaly, however doing a super after combo is very affective.(I can ussualy do 50to70% more damege with a super after a combo
@CHOLKYJ It's called damage scaling. So by your reasoning, you shouldn't do combos of more than 3 hits ever because it will start scaling the damage down on the later moves and you can't do as much damage as you could do with those moves normally. Yup free unblockable damage is pointless.
Yeah it looks simple, but I swear canceling is the hardest thing about this game, I can hardly do it. Your thumb movement has to be lighning fast to cancel then dash forward, and then perform another special. It confuses my thumb or it just causes it to slip.
cancelling definatly looks fancy but i wouldnt say its necessary plus its better to waste ur meter on special attacks on light attacks into super combo
akuma setup for ultra: a focus attack, cancel it, use tele to get behind him, focus attack again, tele again, that should confuse him a bit then use the raging demon and pwn him ^_^
"Don't pinch the whole yourself in the same move for over and over again. If you do, Well, get ready to see the game over screens a lot." Lol, that's a good sentence...
Tekken 6 looks good so far, I'll give you that, the problem is that they're adding more and more characters but keeping the same formula without an improvement so it's really hard to tell whether or not they're planning to take the game a whole new level.
hi everyone i really need some help on how to pull off ryu's ultra im playing on a ps3 with a fighting stick. and no that u have to press the 3 punch buttons at the same time but any advice would be much appreciated ps. please reply thanks !

Button mashing in 3D fighters do occur more but juggles in 3D fighting games particulary Tekken takes skill and strategy. Landing from a attack in various ways to capatalize on a miss low sweep or blocking the 10 hit combo that each character has and to memorize every attack to know when the low and high attacks are about to come is very strategic not to mention swaying attacks and grab reversals IMO Tekken has a deeper learining curve than SF it didn't take me too much practice to reach G2-B.

I didn't realize you could do all of that stuff with the focus attacks. this game is soooo awesome
@SlipknotLeon I think all uppercuts are dragon punches...
why do people preffer x360 controller, whats so different from ps2 for example??? plz explain
That was actually a really helpful vid.. are there any more like this for SFIV I can find?
the install option is in the options menu, under game settings i think.. just like through all the game options you will find it
@heavenmaycryHQ You cancel by doing a focus attack (hold MK and MP) right after doing the input for the move you want to cancel. To FADC (focus attack dash cancel), just dash right after you start the focus attack.

@TheGlowingKnight FADC's are advanced and are usually are a part of most advanced combos. And FADC's are more advanced than double tapping.
@ifrit1780 yes, its the same thing, except there are now 2 ultras for each character, letting you mix it up a little more.
i think people are misunderstanding me :) i meen like for example; charging for a special . So i should say, is there a way to speed up having to wait 2 seconds for a move which requires a hold...?
Really nice. I need to practice the focus cancel more. Thanks IGN.

"You'll bring so much pain to their opponents, they'd swear they watched first Street Fighter movie" Ahhh... The greatest Street Fighter joke of 2009 XD
how much longer do we have to wait until the updated DLC?
Loving Focus moves,
Sakura and C-VIP have the best ones (CV because her's has a huge range.)
i think she meant b4 the third hit. i was confused for a sec when i saw that she said out of the third hit
@PhilomathBret I mean only ultras. Because you can do normal moves as much as you want but you can't do ultras as much as you want so it's better to save your ultra for the right moment.
What character and what trial number?
I will look into it.

How does focusing compare to parrying?

Incredible! With this focus attack and cancels. Ryu's hadouken spamming won't be a problem!
where do I have to press for the Super Combos for ps3 pleassee for an answer

if you want to cancel a focus attack just do a dash
go to the system option in SF4 and there should be an option to install into ur harddrive
in chalenge mode it tells me to do heavy kick then a hadoken what do i do
How do you live up to this point without ever playing an SF game?
really like the art style of this game. its like next gen okami + street fighter
Wow, I didn't think the focus attacks were that deep. You could use that in a million ways.
@XrossFade
whats advanced for you mister street fighter?
playing using your eyebrows?

What's with Ken's ultra at 1:55.... That's not his ultra OR his super
They have the Ultra and Super settings on unlimited in the training option, that's why.

how do you do ken?
@musicmenace78 specific characters unlock certain new ones

yo peeps hw do u do a facous attack and hw do u do a cancel attack and hw do u do a dash.
any 1 help me out?????
They should show Jessica through the whole video and Street Fighter in the background (with green screen).
You remind me of Dwight from the Office. Would you prefer information on bears, beets, and Battlestar Galactica.

Let me put my two cents into this: Any game where a single not-very-complex move that can be executed at any time (Let's say, hold back and press two punch buttons, and the game itself doesn't have super meters) can be a one-hit KO probably won't have a 'professional' level of play.
Actually, Apha takes place in between 1 and 2 (notice Sagat has his scar and is looking for revenge against Ryu, who beat hm in the first).
Does anyone know good setup for akuma shun goku satsu or wrath please respond
Chronologially, it is not. It's the 6th one. It's the three in the Alpha series, then the first one, then the second, and then this one, and then the third.
You take that back! Ken's VA is the same one who VA's Dante.
