    Lol on 1:35 that's Palm Drive,our little main street we have here in Desert Hot Springs,this is pretty cool to know,I been living in this town for 33 years and i never knew about this hotel lol

      Okay how funny, than you live close to a John Lautner designed gem and not realizing it. I live in the Netherlands and live more than 10 thousands miles away and I learn you something about your town, while I never visited Desert Hot Springs :) . Now that you know it, you should visit the Hotel yourself.

    The nicest 'motel' rooms on earth! I've been enjoying your Lautner videos. At least from my computer screen, the attention to detail in every aspect of design and construction seems remarkable. Architecture and craftsmanship at its finest.

      great to hear that you enjoy my videos. Yest its a brilliant designed motel, there was hardly any information about the motel on the internet, so therefore I made this video. I want to make as many videos about Lautner designs as possible, because he deserves more attention.

    In the '80s I constantly lived in my car or cheap hotels in Palm springs / desert Hot springs. The never-ending wind was a living hell in DHS if you live there long enough. Nothing but dirt roads in the 70s haha

      Yes the hotel protects its guests from the wind and heat of the desert.

    $350 a night and booked up for 2 months!
    I am putting staying here on my bucket list.
    Also, if I ever get to build my dream home, copying these for a guest house seems like a great idea.

    Thank you for another in your series of well-produced and informative videos. Very much enjoyed watching it. It’s interesting how young Lautner used this commission to so thoroughly express his creativity. A year or two later he went on to design Googies Coffee Shop in Hollywood again expressing his creativity and leading to the Googie style of mid-century modern architecture with all its geometric shapes. Genius blooming. 🌸

    • @SuperJobbel
      @SuperJobbel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it's interesting to study the early works by Lautner because they are cheaply build so John Lautner had to be very inventive and they show how much talent he already had. I want to make a video about his Googie designs and the restaurants he designed, but unfortunately they are all demolished and its very hard to find photos and information about them. So i'm afraid a video about the diners is not possible yet.

    • @carycary3822
      @carycary3822 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SuperJobbel There’s a pretty thorough study on Googie style in a book entitled Googie Redux by Alan Hess, ISBN 0-8118-4272-X, published by Chronicle Books (WWW.CHRONICLE BOOKS.COM). Unfortunately, it’s out of print, but you may still be able to track down a copy because it’s not a very old title. (Try Amazon.) It could be helpful to you. Look up Alan on Wikipedia. He’s an architect, lecturer, author, etc.. Perhaps you could track him down. 🤝

      Structural and reinforcing iron and steel are important components of buildings, bridges, roads, and other structures. Even though the primary metal involved in this work is steel, workers often are known as ironworkers or erectors.
      If you're going to "correct" someone, at least have the knowledge to explain what you're correcting.
      Secondly, it IS an interchangeable use, so he is correct in saying Iron.
      And lastly, it's extremely racist to do so in the first place.
