Very pleased to find this on You Tube today. I first saw Bettye Lavette some years ago in London. She was filling in for Koko Taylor who was ill at the time and couldn't make it. I was disappointed until after the first 5 seconds - Bettye was magnificent and put on one hell of a show. Brilliant singer!!! I have never forgotten it - love her.
Tremendous demonstration of character in soul. She is the Real Thing, even as much as Aretha was, in a different mood.. So glad I've found her. She puts a lot of Sh*t together as much as any great singer ever has !!!!!!!*t...and these are not her originals !!!
Great Lady, great singer. Saw her recently un Paris for the tribute to Aretha (she had the longest applause of all artists performing that evening) and at The jazz café London in 2006. I love her.
