I was 13 in 1987 at a weekend campout (Boy Scouts) at Wright Patterson AFB. We were probably only 3 football fields away from the runway and would go to the end and stand there watching aircraft for hours. We saw F-4s, f-15s, F-14s, and Harriers all weekend. The F-14s and Harriers were the loudest. You couldn’t hear them when we went to the end of the runway and stood under them, you felt the sound. That’s how loud those two were. And yes I remember the heat from the Harriers well!

It was June 1994 not 1993. My friend and I rode our motorbikes from Yeovil to the TT on the Isle of Man which was a great holiday but we were more than a little disappointed to have missed all that activity at Yeovilton. We had access to the airfield in those days. However much film I'd have bought for my camera I'm sure I would have run out. Thanks for posting the video.

The F-111 were a real liability for the Australian Air Force. Incredibly expensive, limited capacity and a troubled history. Apart from use in Vietnam they made their mark as a show plane doing the afterburner routine. They were quickly superseded. Australia just keeps getting caught up in wasting huge amounts of money on out dated technology. The current deal with France on submarines is over the A$80 billion and who knows when they will enter service. Advanced drone technology would be a better investment for Australia than ageing aircraft and submarines.
Some of the Soviet fighters in this video are impressive and impressive pilots.
