Similar process with my videos. I use DashWare however. I find it easier to import the solo data and video, then sync them in program. Set start and end points, render the lap, done. If I use dual in car cameras however, I have to overlay then render first in FCPX, then import and overlay the data to DashWare then render again.

I wasn’t aware of DashWare! I’ll check it out!

Still sitting through this but genuinely a question I was going to ask! Thanks for collating!

It's a tedious process, but hopefully this helps!

TIL you can create custom templates and gauges.... I thought I was the only one that hated the race render gauges. I have been matching my overlays with the GPS position data and just start finish, really loved showing how to mate the videos in DaVinci Resolve; demystifying the process helps me with the learning anxiety of video editing.

The custom gauges are a pain in the butt, but are totally worth it! Syncing in DaVinci Resolve works best for me because I edit and color within that program, but it's pretty funny that when I sync'ed in RaceRender I've found that it's actually not as bad as I remembered! Haha.
Maybe I'll do a video on how I grade my GoPro and Sony footage. No gatekeeping!

Great templates! I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who exports the overlay from Race Render and adds the overlay into another program lol What you do in Resolve is very similar to what I do in Premiere. I work in post-production so I went the route that I know how and because to me, the Race Render program felt limiting. Using Race Render is nice if all you need or want is the overlay data on your video, but like you, I also tweak the color of my footage a bit so having burnt in overlays isn't ideal for that.

Thanks! Glad you like the templates! I was wondering if anyone was doing a similar workflow, haha. I think for most, working in RaceRender is fine. But for those who grade and do the fancy bits, you gotta run overlays.

bless ya heart! lol But this was a great and helpful video. Fortunately, since I use a tablet as my timer visual, I can see my predicted time and current lap time in the video. I create a predicated time or timer object to help sync video and data.

That’s definitely the best way! Before when I used a Garmin Catalyst, it was so easy to sync data and the video because the screen was so large.
