That part of Rock Hill's Main Street was closed off back in the 1970s, as part of the Town Center Mall. It was one of two malls in Rock Hill at the time. One of the businesses that were part of that Mall was the Woolworth That store's cafeteria counter was the location of the Friendship Nine's sit-in protest that you mentioned in your video.
We live barely inside Chester county just south of Rock Hill. We moved here in 2002 from Mississippi and I love it here more. Rock Hill has grown a lot since we moved here. Stores and restaurants have closed and some have come in. Its a nice med size town that we love shopping and eating at. I love the weather here too except when humidity comes in, in summer. If you would of kept walking, you would of saw a big beautiful fountain. I love going there.
I have very fond memories of my 2 visits to Rock Hill, in 2013. The town is very picturesque and kept very clean. Practically everyone I met were friendly and helpful. Wow, I met a lot of nice people there! A big shout out to Mayak, who owns/owned a convenience store on Cherry Road. I had some great chats with him and I met a lot of locals, who also stayed and chatted with me, when they came there after work to shop. I'd highly recommend to anyone to pay a visit to Rock Hill! Rock Hill....Where you move to when you can't afford Charlotte, NC.....Or you are running from the Law. Also known as a suburb of Charlotte, NC. It has been over fifty years since Rock Hill had an identity of its own. There was talk, not that long ago in fact, of allowing North Carolina to absorb the Fort Mill and Rock Hill areas and merging them into Mecklenburg County. The idea kind of died on the vine when folks who had moved to Fort Mill and Rock Hill to avoid the higher state and county taxes raised holy hop. But I'm sure the idea will come up again before it's over with.
I live in HI and can definitely afford Charlotte, but I would move to a town like Rock Hill before ever considering Charlotte. Different strokes for different folks.
