Wow! What a review. In fact best I have watched. This is first time I am listening you. I can't believe being a Pakistani and probably urban West punjaban drench in Urdu will not only be interested in subject like Chamkila but delve so deep into it. The intensity you watched and grabbed chamkila on such a short notice is incredible! You picked the tiniest cords like pritiniti not imitating the trademark clapping style of Amarjot. My lord! you are so particular about lyrics , not even the scholars here are able to decipher them. Honestly, your review in itself needs a review! Love to hear more from you
I like the Review, she is not only a critic for criticism but more than it, Enlarge my vision, she wants to make things more realistic more lively, vibrant to touch and imbibe the real essence of panjab ,
Chamkila was good person He donated need ful things to needy people & donated huge amount received from religious songs He downed to earth He was outstanding in writer composer musician & singer He was miracle in singing u have 100% right regarding chamkila true story Thanks
Great critique very thorough explanation after getting knowledge of his excellent music talent and excellent writer and singer . Thanks for your time to analyze so well 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕
I watched your channel for the first time. Your review told me so much more about you than Chamkila - your deep research, your understanding of art and about society, about human behaviours…. Also your knowledge about some other authors. I would love to see more from you about educating us about authors, poets and also about some great movies. Looking forward. When in school, we were never made to ‘understand’ the beauty of these things. Maybe you can.
Wow what an outstanding take on the movie. While everyone is absorbed with the beauty & success of the movie, you’re stating some hard facts about the artist and his art which was not given much importance by the film makers. Beautiful take, hope it reaches Imtiaz too 🙂
Chamkila was the only singer at that time whose records were sold at maximum number both so called Obscene as well as religious tracks. Even today's singers copy his beats nd sing his tracks in live performance. Chamkila Rocks even today❤
Main aap ki baat se sahamat ya asahmat ho sakta hun ,magar aap point of view, research, selection of words ,film ,samaj ,rahan sahan , bhasa ,erc puri baatchit kamal ki hai , lag rha hai ke aap ne pura time liya aur video ko pura time diya hai ❤, aap ke 189 like the ,190 mera like hai subscribe kar liya hai ji aap ko
I haven't seen the movie. I AM NOT Punjabi. Doesn't know about "Chamkeela". But your introduction to the real "Chamkeela" was quite descriptive. I liked and agree with your clear line between Bold Art/ Porn Art and classy Art. Great review.
There is even a deeper layer to what you're talking about.. how does a Dhani Ram become an Amar Singh? Complex place with a complex people and history.
Mam thank you apne buhat deep jake is movie our chamkila ji bare main jo baat rakhi our you tube par apke jaisa review dekhne ko nahi mila mja aa gya apka review dekhke mere pass shabad nahi main to apka fan ho gya ji
Mam, I just wanted to add something. Punjabi in Indian Punjab village is much more refined. I think Pakistani has some sort of romance with Hindi belt areas. However I can attest that they are far more coarse than Punjabis and people from any other states
Lol so why in comments so many indian punjabi agreeing with her one thing you must understand that everyone see world through his lens if people not we would be toy robots
Well … most people agree with some thing she said not all the things. If you ever go there, u can attest my view. Punjabi people speak much sweetly than people of Hindi belt people, provided you compare farmer to farmer
Fair review. Movie is very distorted frankly. Shinda was the one who gave a break to Chamkila by recommending him to HMV's General manager. Recording studio date was given after 3 months, and people made it into Chamkila cashed in on Shinda's overseas tour. Look at Chamkila's songs written for Shinda, they are all normal subjects. Chamkila benefited a lot from accompanying Shinda and seeing audience responded to which songs. And then he played the consumerism game and totally outcompeted everyone and he chose to ride the vulgarity train. Yes, Shinda was jealous of this changed reality because both Chamkila and Amrarjot were very good stage performers, able to hold long akhadas, and a long list of songs to sing. Which meant even though everyone was equally booked, but Chamkila was getting more money. You cannot pin his own will on condition of society. Chamkila wanted this. He was an exceptionally talented artist, look at subtle composition differences between Baba Tera Nankana and Teri Jaandi Doli Ni... they both are on the same classical raag. Young Chamkila practised his art on lands of Jatts, a Jatt had specially cleared la corner for him and his 2 friends. Chamkila's criticism started from Marxist circles, not ordinary public. You search Bhindranwale's speeches or Sikh newspapers of that time, there is just no criticism of Chamkila or targeting of any singer at all. None. Chamkila is assassinated and Police killed nearly 25 Sikhs, and earner promotions. Area DSP from that time, still boasts in his speeches how brutal was their death. Without solving the murder, without naming who was involved, Police killed innocents. This is the real story movie misses too, because if you see credits the movie was made with help of Punjab Police. I wonder why no Police file was accessed by the research team and made public. Bollywood will be bollywood in the end. But this movie, there was a story. Majority of Chamkila's memorable songs came after he was told to reform himself. Anyways, being an outsider looking in, your review is fair. Edit: Also, since you watched a lot of live akhadas, did you notice the homophobia in the Akhadas between two of his band members? He used words like tochan too. Those times were different, but he also used this aspect as a way to entertain his audience. Same people who would say don't punch down, totally ignored fair representation of his akhadas too.
chamkila last second show my village or uske baad dusre din uski agle show par death houi thhi or uska muder deepa ne kiya thha or uska muder punjab ke bakki singero ne kiya thha, sindha, sadheek ne krwaya thha
Chamkila has many loopholes. Imtiyaz Ali has almost same treatment of all his film. Even some dialogues feel like previous film. They didn't work well, they didn't write the character well. Bhag Milka Bhag is far ahead of many Bollywood biography.
I have hardly seen such a profound review ever. Well researched, it can only come for deep engagement with subject and knowledge of Punjabi language, culture and region. Exactly, the movie has made caricature outa Chamkila and belittled his contribution and bypassed critical questions on art and cinema practice ! Wow thanks again. I have become Fan of Feminustani !!
Well explained and thought provoking. You highlighted the deeper side of chamkila in profound manners. For me he is just a human being, not an idol. One thing I would like to mention, not in terms of moral values that how a sensitive person can bring his pregnant wife on stage when she needs rest. I feel it totally inhumane. What is your take on it?
Very interesting take, altho i might not agree with everything you said Im not from punjab, have had some punjabi friends that's all Its pretty interesting to see how someone from that particular culture might see it as This movie couldve been shot in Punjabi but then it wouldn't have had so large audience. I personally like this movie better than tamasha or JWM, espl bcz of the discourse it tries to initiate, and mainly bcz of several interesting editing choices imtiaz makes with this. Animated sequence, people singing right at the audience as if you're in a play or natak, the lyrics popping on the screen as if theyre relishing in the "dirty" humour of those songs Also 'vida karo' is my personal favourite, will surely play it at my own funeral
As a Punjabi I agree with you , Chamkila was a hardcore punjabi singer , making the film in Hindi was a commercial choice . Full Punjabi should have suited the film more . Imtiaz Ali is from Bihar , he can never understand rural Punjab
Really amazed by this review and analysis. You clearly immersed yourself in Chamkila and Amarkot. And, you understand Punjabi. I wonder if Imtiaz Ali understands /speaks Punjabi. I am inspired to see Chamkila's repertoire too.
She pointed out the drawbacks which were true. In the end she could have praised certain aspects a bit more of the movie too. Anyway the movie is a hit among the audiences. I liked hearing her. We live in a democratic set up.
chamkila was a panjabi artist and his followers were all punjabis, just a thought, i would have appreciated if you have conducted this review in punjabi
I agree with you totally....very insightful and matured analysis...I was waiting for this kind of opinion from an Indian analyst but did not find one.But generally for everyone's knowledge Im no chamkila fan.....I find his music repulsive and un melodious.. By the way you sing well and have a very sharp eye for detail.....keep it up😊
Amar Singh Chamkila is the mirror of the society. May be some things mising in the movie. Imtiaaj put Chamkila before the world to atract the great reviews beyond reviews like yours.thanks.
Then film would be limited to pind with your logic. Don’t stereotype. It is that grittiness produced Heer Ranjhas. Punjab is not a postage sized land with a homogeneous culture or behaviours. We all come from the land not everyone wails and not everyone fits your image. Naheen suna for the same reason he was stereotyped with others, as this critique has done.
if we can't appreciate Naseebo's vulgar bols today, how could we expect a Punjab society of 35 years earlier to tolerate vulgarity. He could not feel the pulse of that society hit by violence and communal riots

i like it so much that you are not a typical desi burger who is ashamed of their culture, language and history
I like the Review, she is not only a critic for criticism but more than it, Enlarge my vision, she wants to make things more realistic more lively, vibrant to touch and imbibe the real essence of panjab ,
You came to know about Chamkila after watching the movie and were curious to explore more and spent time reviewing him, so film is effective
Chamkila was good person He donated need ful things to needy people & donated huge amount received from religious songs He downed to earth He was outstanding in writer composer musician & singer He was miracle in singing u have 100% right regarding chamkila true story Thanks

One rarely comes across such an honest comment and expression of genuine willingness to learn. Appreciate it sire 🫡
Very insightful. I think that how a critic should review a movie, art. Great job
Bahut acha review hai Aap ka. I am from the Malwa region of Punjab and grew up listening to Chamkila. He was a good singer but was a great lyrcist.
This review is more engaging than the film. An insightful analysis, making movie watch meaningful besides entertaining. A treat to watch indeed.

Very thoughtful and balanced review, as a Punjabi I can understand and relate to it. Lots of respect from Punjab 🙏
Okay, I did like the movie but absolutely loved your take on it, you changed my perspective, completely. Good job. 🙏
Wow what an outstanding take on the movie. While everyone is absorbed with the beauty & success of the movie, you’re stating some hard facts about the artist and his art which was not given much importance by the film makers. Beautiful take, hope it reaches Imtiaz too 🙂

I watched your first video regarding Pakistani dramas and "bechari" aurat and now this analysis. Amazing!
Wow..hats off to the honest review !!

hi from bombay, India, this was an amazing & very informative video, actually more than the movie itself! best review ever! keep up the good work💯🤍
Thanks for the review. Your way of narrating a story is excellent. Big fan
Well researched and presented review. I understand Chamkila better after watching this review.
Very insightful review❤
Loved your POV as a Punjabi. Incredible.
The best review of the movie I have come across so far. Brilliantly put across. I too had similar expectations of the much awaited biopic.
Your review is on point and its so impressive that you have to notice all the detailing of the film 🎥.and given to the honest reply.

Very interesting take, altho i might not agree with everything you said

Really amazed by this review and analysis. You clearly immersed yourself in Chamkila and Amarkot.
And, you understand Punjabi. I wonder if Imtiaz Ali understands /speaks Punjabi.
I am inspired to see Chamkila's repertoire too.
In the starting you said you liked the movie. From the next minute you started critising the movie for the whole 30 minutes .
Haha, that’s true, but I would still say I liked it on the whole
Poorly reviewed.
Hahahahahahahabahaahaha correct, pehle bol diya k achi movie hai, fir duniya bharbki kamiyan nikal di
She pointed out the drawbacks which were true.
In the end she could have praised certain aspects a bit more of the movie too. Anyway the movie is a hit among the audiences.
I liked hearing her. We live in a democratic set up.
@@feminustaniGiven the kind of movies we get these days,I think you can forgive those that you pointed out unless it was really distracting!
Nice analysis 👍
I found this movie review more interesting than the movie itself!
Beast!
❤❤❤
Madam bhool gye k ye real story aur research karke bani hai. Jo dono ki chemistry kisi ko nahi pata, to kaise dikhayein?

Very nice movie 🎥❤️❤️🪕
Chamkila legend tha
