In a 16 minutes‘ summary we now know what a great musician, composer, recording and mixing engineer Nathan is. My honest respect, chapeau, congratulations! Incredible video! I’m overwhelmed!
Just have to chime in here. I've been following you through your journey ever since we were sitting next to each other at graduation/testing your audio trimming class and it's so cool to watch you improve at your skills not only in composition, but also production, editing, marketing, teaching... all while growing your family which has it's own separate unique and difficult but rewarding problems. I remember talking with you and, even then, you had this dream. It's really great to see things coming into fruition. Keep that drive man. You're doing amazing things!
I have been a passive member of your audience for a while now (I watch your videos but have never commented or interacted with your videos). This. Was. Unreal. Can you say goosebumps? That time and effort that you spent creating this was so incredibly worth it. Way to go, man.
Wow thank you. So meaningful. That is EXACTLY what I was hoping this would do. Cannot wait for the future - 2024 videos are gonna be all somewhat like this style - showing the process and telling stories. Maybe working on full blown orchestral scoring?? I dunno... maybe 😉
I remember a little boy qho loved to play the piano. I've been following you for about a year now and I say bravo Nathan 🎉🎉🎉. God has Blessed you in so many ways and I'm so pleased for you. Don't give up on spreading your God given talent with others. ❤
Sat here for a while thinking of how to put this in words. The amount of emotion this drew out of me was way unexpected - up to the point of actual tears. Thank you for taking us along this journey. Can't overstate our much of an inspiration this is to me. Thank you for showing how to respond to criticism. God bless you Nathan
Chris here (Jeremy Sutherland’s writing partner): Nathan, this is stunning. How fulfilling to be able to achieve something at this high level. You’re the best!
Amazing Nathan…can’t wait to hear everything to come. We love you man. Not only are you talented and an amazing teacher, but you are the kind of man we would all want as a brother or a friend! Bravo pour tout!
Nathan has been in my pocket for years, I recognized how talented he was immediately, and appreciated the videos he put out. Now that I’ve finally reached a point in my life where I’m going to start taking this seriously, I can honestly say his channel is more valuable than anything I could ever ask for ! Thank you Nathan ! You are amazing !
Yep... I'm really tired of the music content that make it seem like art can be whipped up like a Happy Meal Cheeseburger. Really want to show how much effort goes into what I'm trying to create!
I've been producing instrumentals for the greater part of the last 20 years. I'm 40 years old. I also was winning talent shows playing classical piano songs as early as 5th grade. I received standing ovations from everyone in attendance at that time and I was only 10 years old. With that said, I've spent most of my life creating new music. Even with all that said, I follow your channel and have learned all kinds of stuff from you. To even bother listening to the trolls in the comments is 100% not worth. You are the reason I'm sad that I never decided to get into college to further expand on my knowledge of making music. I've been making music for much longer than you have and yet you're so much more advanced than me and it's because you actually got help along the way. I've been completely self taught. In fact, TH-cam wasn't even a thing back when I struggled through learning about DAWS, and learning theory, mixing etc. These days everything anyone wants to know is on TH-cam. A new producer can pass my skills within 2 years if they stay dedicated to watching Tutorials on TH-cam etc. It took me 20 years to learn what newer producers are grasping within 2 years of making music! It's awesome to see but makes me sad that these tools weren't around during my early years. I wonder where I'd be at right now if I was 20 years old and just starting to make music today.
Oh MY! I enjoyed the ride - but was not expecting the depth of emotion brought on at the end. Well done. Once again: Inspirational. Heartfelt. Gratitude. Blessing.
Seeing Nathan say that he learned a lot shows, how he teaches us techniques and gives us tips but also learns himself. This inspired me, as always. PHENOMENAL work Nathan.
I DID learn a lot - I made several "mistakes" but ultimately that is what happens when you are working - everyone makes mistakes and realizes "Oh I could've done XYZ thing differently" On the strings, for example - what I was meaning when I said I learned a lot - I actually positioned my stereo pair mic setup too high that it hardly captured any cello which was a huge problem in the overall balance of things. But - no one is gonna "know that" when they listen. So it's just one of those things you tuck away for next time and move along! Keep going!
That was inspiring! I don’t know who said your music sucked, but I have seen many of your videos, and I think you are talented and a great teacher. Thank you!
I doesn't suck, but as a listener it doesn't really grab the ear. Feel like if you mixed it up with the volume articulation within sections it would help. You have one section that stays peaking at around the same db level for the whole part. Then the quieter part that is suddenly quieter and stays at around that same DB. Then it goes back to the original db area. Just kind of boring in my opinion. Like maybe have it slower in the beginning and only have like the cellos in there, then when the big part hits, it feels more impactful.
Lovely work Nathan! There is always people that gonna hate and you tackled it the best way possible. You're really talented and I learned a lot from your videos. So thank you from Sweden and keep up the lovely work!
You have turned the song into a haunting melody with amazing chord changes.. It's a beautiful orchestral powerful sound with a great singer too. This may sound strange to some but normaly the song has never inspired me, but I have to admit this arrangement made me sit up and want to listen. It's the best version Ive ever heard. I love the way you think outside the box and are true to yourself with music. By the way, the label design gives the music credit. Subscribed.

Over the years i learnd so much from you and im very greatfull for that, Thank you hope you find time to listen t my stuff wha i did over the years
Absolutely brilliant. I just image a full orchestra with a powerful 4-horn counterline, trumpet accents at climactic points, some high woodwind runs and string ostinatos. But then this would enter Thomas Bergersons realms. 😉
Hey Nathan, very inspiring video, top to bottom. Composing, recording, editing and mixing all of this is such a big job and you did amazing. Keep up with the good content ! Will go and listen again to the song now. Cheers
I have been watching your videos on Logic for a few days now. I feel super embarrassed by what I have put out so far but I do know I want to get better. I have been told I am “pathetic” but seeing someone told you you suck and knowing that isn’t true at all, gives me hope that I will be able to improve with time. I always feel like writing is the easy part but the production has my brain feeling like mush especially when I didn’t get to go to any school to learn these things. Most videos I have seen using Logic go too fast and don’t cover where to even find the tools. I mean I could read but it’s usually not helpful when you don’t know how they translate into what you hear. Anyway. I really liked watching this because I get so frustrated when things don’t work the way I have them in my head. Obviously being new to learning production comes with a lot of frustration but seeing a professional have them too makes me feel somehow less like it’s always just a me problem. Thank you.
Beautiful my brother, a true work of art. God never lets His own down as long as we put the work in. Well done man. It is my dream also to have live instruments and choirs behind me too, there is only so much that you can do with samples.
@@NathanJamesLarsen appreciate the support. I am happy that you finally did it. The strings sound so much more raw when they are recorded live, you can hear the scratching of the strings.
You are an amazing producer and please don't give up on it. I'll try to phrase this as nicely as I can. It sounds like a car commercial. Like the end credits of a Disney movie. Now, that's all cool and stuff, but it doesn't really connect with the listener (me). All you needed was a voice and a cello and breaking out of sequencer clock. I'll reference Aurora's version of Nat King Cole's song 'Nature Boy'. That's all you need for this song. The song is quiet and contemplative as it's a gentle prayer in a church that explodes into Hallelujah. Great work all and all, not working for me.
A nivel composición es excelente! A nivel de mezcla por momentos siento que las cosas suenan separadas y no juntas como deberían. Igualmente es un trabajo realmente bien hecho! Felicitaciones!!
Wow. Just wow! I had goosebumps and literally tears in my eyes. Such a great production and such an emotional video. You're such a great musician and yet a humble person. Thank You!
Such amazing work that everyone put into this song and Saylor's voice is so incredible!! I love it!! You're songs and vids are always top notch!! Keep making great content my dude!! Thanks for sharing!! Much ❤️ Nathan!!
You really challenged yourself! It is not easy to justify doing yet another cover version of something so covered… but you succeeded gloriously! Loved this video and made me cry. ❤ Btw, I subtitled in Finnish the great documentary on this song. Strongly recommend to watch it, I don’t know on which platform it might be in the US.
No this is Beautiful !! It struck a chord. There will always be haters. You know the people who just have to be negative or their day is not complete. And constructive criticism is needed to evolve too if it is actually meant to be constructive and it comes from a good place. Otherwise ignore. Was great to see this all come together.
Agreed - being an artist is this fine balance of "not caring what people think" while at the same time "caring DEEPLY about what people think" - straddling that is hard and knowing when to take things to heart and when to ignore and be so difficult. I'm so fortunate that those I care about their opinion are in my corner and I can block out the noise.
Pristine rise and fall throughout! I loved the build and the pace of the increased hype and tension. And those two dropouts of implied tension at the end -- held my breath and was not disappointed! I was totally swept away by the climax, and then the beautiful quieting at the end. I felt all the parts had such great quality, and I love how you intertwined it all. Getting lost in the whole thing felt inspiring and hopeful. That is so much work and so hard to get every part to prevail. Excellent job. Thanks for my new favorite Spotify stop. And thanks for your great channel! The video and storytelling were also excellent and I loved the moment when you finished listening to the strings for the first time. Thank you for sharing it.
Bro you transcended to another level better yet another stratosphere with this episode. No other TH-camr has not done anything on this level. WELL DONE!
Wow... this comment actually encapsulates what I was really shooting for. Thank you for saying this. I have been feeling like so much of "TH-cam Music Producers" is like... cheap and quick. Like - "how can I make a video FAST and QUICK and RUSHED" just to get views - rather than stopping to truly make something artistic, and that's who I am and who I want to be... I want to put in real time and effort into my music and show that true art doesn't happen in 10 minutes.
@@NathanJamesLarsen I am so impacted by this that I am about to scrape some $$$ to join your class! If you are teaching this type of stuff? then here is my VISA number!!!
Hi Nathan. Amazing take on hallelujah!! I have one question: According to my memory with the original version of hallelujah, I don’t believe there is a pause before the climax of the song. With that being said, Due to this pause; Could your version be considered as a Remix? Thanking those who answer in advance.
Wow! I never click the like button or subscribe to most things I watch, but there's definitely deserved it! Crazy, the dedication, and the hard work you put into making this song! this is exactly what music is about! Coming from the heart, and seeing that vision come alive. I don't think I'll ever see another video like this for a long time unless you do another one but wow great great job! I am a blind producer and artist and if you ever wanted to collaborate with each other, that would be amazing.
The music is great but what I really want to commend you on is your character and your grace, even the way your responding to some harsh persons in the comment section. Respect to you man!
I have a video Idea you have a producer challenge where you and a few other people could make a genre you have never made before I think this idea would be fun
If I was covering something like this 10 years ago I would just do it as a general midi arrangement on my Roland SC-88 Pro. I did just that when I covered Somewhere only we know but then again I only produce music as a hobby so I can get away with my backing tracks sounding really synthetic. But it boggles my mind how people can say top quality Kontakt libraries sound like trash even if you know how to program them and make them sound convincing. Unfortunately even many other professional producers either can't afford to hire a live string section or/and don't know anyone wo can play in a string section. Honestly to me most TV series music even if it is 100% done with Kontakt libraries still sounds just as convincing to me and I can't tell the difference and the average person watching isn't going to know if it's a sample library or even care. I think most people who feel the need to insult music done completely with Kontakt libraries are paraniod because they think computers are going to make real instruments obsolete which couldn't be further from the truth! Music for films is still performed by a live orchestra and in many cases the final soundtrack will be a mix of both midi and live instruments unless it's a really low budget film then maybe everything will be synthesized but that never stopped anyone making a great soundtrack.
I’d love to see you make songs about those hate comments lol. That would have been the ultimate win for me. You are great and your tutorials and courses have been so helpful!
Haha I have seen vids like that - the challenge is that it's almost impossible to make something actually "Artistic" like that cause they always end up being really funny and comedic instead. And I'm not big on making music like that to be honest - for some reason I always feel like my music tends to be "deeper"? I dunno - but yeah I hear you!
Nah man you've worked too hard to listen to negative people! you know the deal. Really great that you used it for your benefit as a challenge. Incredible work btw!
Bravo Bravo Hallelujah in deed! Way to make those critics into your inspiration to reach for higher goals! Its in you bro! You can be really great! Congrats God bless you!

Damn, you’re awesome man much love 🙏🏻
The music is great but what I really want to commend you on is your character and your grace, even the way your responding to some harsh persons in the comment section. Respect to you man!
Appreciate this - we need more kindness in the world even in the midst of criticism :)
Please do a, less is more, mix !!! Her voice can carry it !!!
you're my main inspiration in producing music.. thank you Nathan, so much
Wow thank you for saying so - really means a lot! Glad to be a source of inspiration!
I have a video Idea you have a producer challenge where you and a few other people could make a genre you have never made before I think this idea would be fun
Nathan, you are my favourite producer since the very beginning and yet you proved it again ❤
AWww thanks so much!! ❤
If I was covering something like this 10 years ago I would just do it as a general midi arrangement on my Roland SC-88 Pro. I did just that when I covered
Somewhere only we know but then again I only produce music as a hobby so I can get away with my backing tracks sounding really synthetic. But it boggles
my mind how people can say top quality Kontakt libraries sound like trash even if you know how to program them and make them sound convincing. Unfortunately
even many other professional producers either can't afford to hire a live string section or/and don't know anyone wo can play in a string section. Honestly to me
most TV series music even if it is 100% done with Kontakt libraries still sounds just as convincing to me and I can't tell the difference and the average person watching
isn't going to know if it's a sample library or even care. I think most people who feel the need to insult music done completely with Kontakt libraries are paraniod
because they think computers are going to make real instruments obsolete which couldn't be further from the truth! Music for films is still performed by a live
orchestra and in many cases the final soundtrack will be a mix of both midi and live instruments unless it's a really low budget film then maybe everything
will be synthesized but that never stopped anyone making a great soundtrack.
Wow, Nathan. You definitely do not suck. Stunning work, well done
Listen to your Heart💯..and the Monitors too 🔊
I never skip Nathan's video when it comes to this masterpiece.
It did turn out good, I like the overproduced movie soundtrack version.. But please do a mix with minimal instrumentation !!! PLEASE !!!
Okay just wow. Amazing. Genuinely
Nah man you've worked too hard to listen to negative people! you know the deal. Really great that you used it for your benefit as a challenge. Incredible work btw!
I'm very fortunate that the negative comments don't get to me like they did a few years ago :)
Hence the big smile at the beginning :) haha
You're a hero, you can be proud of yourself) It's a success, I'm happy for you
Wow! This turned out really good and it got me tearing up. Great job.
Amazing song, Saylor's vocals are just incredible
Alright now your haters gotta top your video or shut their mouths. Clearly you're the real deal.

As a gigging musician, setting up the equipment in 15 minutes and being stressed… I felt your pain 🫠🤍⭐️🎶
