this show has stayed my favorite anime ever since it came out, i am beyond happy to see it FINALLY getting the attention it’s always deserved. the humor, dialogue and specifically the animation were so impactful and really had a lasting “stay” factor, it feels really timeless just like how south park does. it makes me happy to see so many people loving this show too after so long :’)

The show ends with "To be continued". It ended 12 years ago, and it was dead in the water. Everyone who had worked on it had broken off. 12 years later, season 2 got announced last month. Great time to become a fan!

i always go back to this and ghost stories when i’m in a slump because they’re just fun shows. not necessarily a plot you have to pay too much attention to, mostly no seriousness to them at all, the humor? all of it is cathartic to me in a way, it’s nice to just have a show or two that you never get sick of because you forget a few jokes from the first watchthrough the next and it’s funny all over again
It's so awesome to hear that it's finally getting a sequel, it easily has one of the best English Dubs in the history of Anime and was in my Top 10 for Anime that most badly needed a sequel. Unfortunately though I highly suspect that due to the current "no fun allowed" environment in the American entertainment industry, that Funimation is going to avoid a lot of jokes they would have otherwise made last time plus I'd be genuinely shocked if they don't replace Garter's voice actor. Crossing my fingers that fears of a Twitter mob don't ruin what has the potential to be another top tier English Dub.
I was thinking myself that it'll be interesting to note how the humor changes. In my head, there's no way one of these big companies puts out something this edgy in this time.
From what I heard as well its also a problem of licencing. Since the Dragon Maid dub got the twitter mob hot under the collar the Japanese studios have been very unwilling to let anything except literal translation to the detriment of the potential for dubs that come out today.
Well, it wouldn't be Funimation doing this anymore, but rather Crunchyroll, but everything you mentioned here is still, unfortunately, a distinct possibility.

While the show was NOT my thing. I have to appreciate that it blows 90% of shows in the edgy adult animation genre out of the water. The animation and humor is a lot more on point, and not nearly as repetitive. It also helps that the series was short, and did not have enough time to get stale. The only other show I'd say beats it out is South Park. (A show which manages to actually do this kind of over the top irreverent humor so well, that even a prude like me can usually enjoy most episodes.)

The artstyle, the setpieces, the craploads of easter eggs and love towards pop culture both american and japanese it's oozing out of that show. Sure it's crude and that humor is not for everyone but it's interesting from the animation standpoint alone and the writing too. Like that "not-Normandy" episode.

Like that one animated show where the cast is park rangers (not regular show), or the one about cops thats also animated, or maybe that British one about the royal family.
I remember watching Panty and Stocking during a time where TH-camrs like Smosh or Pewdiepie was on the rise. The humour was perfect during my “edgy age” and now it’s even more funny - just understanding more of what hilarious and genius the jokes are. I also LOVED the editing on this video ! I don't think I can understate how happy it made me to hear there will be a season 2. After the original director left, I thought it was over for this "masterpiece" but how only 12 years later our prayers have been answered.
P&SwG is nothing short of S tier anime. Studio Gainax/Trigger offer some of the best in the industry. Even if some of their shows have flown under everyone's radar. Such as Kaiba.

I like how this show switches from anime art variants of chibi/super deform/realistic/puppetry. At parts it reflex the context or energy of a scene. Almost as a perspective through character(s) eyes [if they take the situation seriously or childishly put it off & indulge].
Watching this show was one of the best things I’ve ever decided to do, it gave me so much nostalgia for the cartoons of old I used to watch, as well as being hillaruous af. I freaking love it and there’s nothing that I could ever hate about it.
Something about a drunk japanese man in a hottub telling the homie "I love you my Ni-" is probably the best and totally true part of how all this came to be.
All these sequences where Ravioli voices some totally made up dialogue are the peak moments of his videos for me Also the random 3d animal models floating around or chilling with some milkshakes or sum in the transition scenes are fire

I remember when I first stumbled across this anime, it was almost as if I had tripped over a rock of stale boredom and landed in a goldmine of refreshing entertainment, it was just fun to watch, of course there were the scenes that were meant to be serious but for the most part it was just silly and dumb fun! But what I love most about this anime is the outro, the song in that is so in contrast with the show it made you wonder what led them to make it like that, with how melancholic and slow it is. However I can't really forgive how they ended it, especially when watching I knew there was no second season already released or being made, so you can understand the excitement when they announced that they were going to make a second season a few months back! I really enjoyed watching this anime and so did many others, so it's nice that they never forgot about it and are continuing it after all this time.
the ENTIRE ost for panty and stocking is amazing, i honestly listen to it as often as i would any other music. the teddyloid production was the cherry on top for me as i love his dj work. they genuinely are great songs!!

I'd say the difference between this and high guardian spice is the studio in the former didn't care about the result and was talented enough to express that in a good way, where in the later the people funding it didn't care about the result and gave a bunch of money to some smucks to try and take advantage of how anime has been increasing viewership out west exponentially lately

I loved watching the dub and could definitely see how cool it was to have the lines be said more naturally than 90% of other dubs, it really helped with the humor
I think the spiritual successor to this show is Helluva Boss. It has all the traits I love about P&S - short, vulgar, beautiful animation, and hilarious character chemistry - and adds the one thing I was longing for: a story. The greatest moment in P&S are when it has “ real ” “ personal ” moments with the characters, because it lets you know that under all the sex and shit and evil are these characters that you’ve loved for everything horrible about them. And Helluva Boss doubles down and keeps getting better with it’s story while keeping up the demobilization. Yet, it just misses the Saturday morning fuckability of the Japanese product. They both trade off in heart and are both just as good. That is why I love both shows so much.
1. I love the segue pink cowboy every time he shows up please keep him a recurring theme, as well as the music, that's iconic 2. This is one of those shows that was a product of it's time and simple could not be greenlit in today's world. I'd love to see it but it just can't happen now, which is sad. Obviously a lot of love was put into it further than just being "the offensive anime" but that style of writing is getting harder and harder to find in media. This was the second anime I ever watched at the tender age of like, 12, and the first one was a powerpuff girls anime. Needless to say it was huge culture shock and also the greatest thing I’d ever seen, but I would watch it frantically looking over my shoulder to make sure my parents didn’t come into my room and see. Also, I didn’t know all that stuff about the dub, that’s really cool! Very cool to know baby me watching the dub cuz I didn’t get subs yet was a valid choice!

Thank you for making this. This show is amazing, and it was cool to get a bit more background on it's inspiration and production. The parallels you draw between it and shows like South Park and Saturday morning cartoons are spot on. Also, the point about female characters with actual defects is an excellent observation, while there have been attempt to make "strong female leads" and such in media recently, the resistance to making them flawed or fallible in any way whatsoever is just making a more flattering version of a one-dimensional character. It's not really humanizing them, it just creates new unrealistic female stereotypes. The only difference is that instead of it being their physical proportions, it's an all-encompassing infallibility.
The first time I watched this show gave me a massive throwback of my childhood rotting away on the classics of Cartoon Network and [adult swim] and it immediately locked in with me and became one of my favourite animes of all time for the sole fact that it’s the least anime like anime I’ve ever watched outside of maybe cowboy bebop and space dandy for different reasons
This man didn't mention the soundtracks for both Angels, as well as both the Devil antagonists for how much they slapped and still made a quality review.
Panty and Stocking is really a underrated gem, i remember i watched the show when i was a dumb teenager as one of my first anime and it was such a hilarious experience to see all of the random over-the-top bullshit in the show.
First time I watched P&S when it came out, I just though it was cool, then when I heard Panty swearing in engrish, I understood this show was made with western sesibilities in mind, without reading a wiki or looking for interviews with the creators, that's how intitive the intent of the creators was, so I hunt down the dub version and watched the first episode again, and the curious thing, is that I didn't knew that this show was made from a studio where Evangelion came from, and that eventually will give us the godsends that are KLK and Edgerunners, and the OST, I really have both albulms on my iPod, even though I can't understand the radio drama tracks, and yeah, I am hyped for the alleged season 2.
I used to do translation for anime, landing a joke in another language is a mission impossible and these gringos landing it is a miracle and next level dedication.
I am ashamed not disgusted to admit I never watched this back when I was in high school and it was airing and I forgotten about it it means so much that you brought it back to my attention because now I can enjoy it all of it with the context of an adult but also well I’m excited

Your thing about an unflattering female protagonist really hit home with me. I'm writing a book, trying to make it work in light novel format, and hoping it gets adapted into an anime. My protagonist is a rude rich bitch. And I love every scene she's in. The way she callously disregards the everyman and gets her comeuppance just makes her such a joy to write. I remember I was complaining about the portrayal of women in the MCU to this one smoothbrain guy; I was like "You know that scene in Iron Man 2 where Tony gets depressed or something so he's sitting on the couch in his underwear, eating ice cream right out the carton? You will never see them have Black Widow do something so human as that. Nuh uh." Between that and saying I thought Hinata was the most compelling Naruto character, his whole takeaway from my rant was that I just hate strong women. Fuck him, his hair was mid. We need more bratty bitches in our media. We need more gals like Panty and Stocking. And I am so overjoyed to know Trigger is making season 2 right now.

I'm kinda stunned that you did not make a single mention about the Soundtrack of this show. It is beyond galactic. It's one of the rare few anime series that I got the entire OST for because it SLAPS HARD.
8:36 I love Ghost Story [English Dub] for the sole fact that it's just voice actors in a recording booth saying "fuck it, we ball" when faced with an objectively bad anime series that didn't even have a complete translation script for them to read to begin with. They can say the most out of pocket shit and nobody will care. Not the studio that made the anime nor the one who tasked them to make this dub. It literally feels like one of those TH-cam streams where a group of friends decide to voice act a game completely blind and make their own inside jokes and narratives either for or at the expense of the game itself.

Like that one animated show where the cast is park rangers (not regular show), or the one about cops thats also animated, or maybe that British one about the royal family.
I will say though... the ghosts are easily the best part, and I keep coming back to the show only for them
I remember watching Panty and Stocking during a time where TH-camrs like Smosh or Pewdiepie was on the rise. The humour was perfect during my “edgy age” and now it’s even more funny - just understanding more of what hilarious and genius the jokes are.

P&SwG is nothing short of S tier anime. Studio Gainax/Trigger offer some of the best in the industry. Even if some of their shows have flown under everyone's radar. Such as Kaiba.

I like how this show switches from anime art variants of chibi/super deform/realistic/puppetry. At parts it reflex the context or energy of a scene. Almost as a perspective through character(s) eyes [if they take the situation seriously or childishly put it off & indulge].
Watching this show was one of the best things I’ve ever decided to do, it gave me so much nostalgia for the cartoons of old I used to watch, as well as being hillaruous af. I freaking love it and there’s nothing that I could ever hate about it.
Something about a drunk japanese man in a hottub telling the homie "I love you my Ni-" is probably the best and totally true part of how all this came to be.

I remember when I first stumbled across this anime, it was almost as if I had tripped over a rock of stale boredom and landed in a goldmine of refreshing entertainment, it was just fun to watch, of course there were the scenes that were meant to be serious but for the most part it was just silly and dumb fun!
But what I love most about this anime is the outro, the song in that is so in contrast with the show it made you wonder what led them to make it like that, with how melancholic and slow it is.
However I can't really forgive how they ended it, especially when watching I knew there was no second season already released or being made, so you can understand the excitement when they announced that they were going to make a second season a few months back!
I really enjoyed watching this anime and so did many others, so it's nice that they never forgot about it and are continuing it after all this time.
the ENTIRE ost for panty and stocking is amazing, i honestly listen to it as often as i would any other music. the teddyloid production was the cherry on top for me as i love his dj work. they genuinely are great songs!!

I think the spiritual successor to this show is Helluva Boss. It has all the traits I love about P&S - short, vulgar, beautiful animation, and hilarious character chemistry - and adds the one thing I was longing for: a story. The greatest moment in P&S are when it has “ real ” “ personal ” moments with the characters, because it lets you know that under all the sex and shit and evil are these characters that you’ve loved for everything horrible about them. And Helluva Boss doubles down and keeps getting better with it’s story while keeping up the demobilization. Yet, it just misses the Saturday morning fuckability of the Japanese product. They both trade off in heart and are both just as good.

This was the second anime I ever watched at the tender age of like, 12, and the first one was a powerpuff girls anime. Needless to say it was huge culture shock and also the greatest thing I’d ever seen, but I would watch it frantically looking over my shoulder to make sure my parents didn’t come into my room and see.
Also, I didn’t know all that stuff about the dub, that’s really cool! Very cool to know baby me watching the dub cuz I didn’t get subs yet was a valid choice!

Thank you for making this. This show is amazing, and it was cool to get a bit more background on it's inspiration and production. The parallels you draw between it and shows like South Park and Saturday morning cartoons are spot on. Also, the point about female characters with actual defects is an excellent observation, while there have been attempt to make "strong female leads" and such in media recently, the resistance to making them flawed or fallible in any way whatsoever is just making a more flattering version of a one-dimensional character. It's not really humanizing them, it just creates new unrealistic female stereotypes. The only difference is that instead of it being their physical proportions, it's an all-encompassing infallibility.
They made this show for fun. Such talent.
The first time I watched this show gave me a massive throwback of my childhood rotting away on the classics of Cartoon Network and [adult swim] and it immediately locked in with me and became one of my favourite animes of all time for the sole fact that it’s the least anime like anime I’ve ever watched outside of maybe cowboy bebop and space dandy for different reasons
This man didn't mention the soundtracks for both Angels, as well as both the Devil antagonists for how much they slapped and still made a quality review.
Panty and Stocking is really a underrated gem, i remember i watched the show when i was a dumb teenager as one of my first anime and it was such a hilarious experience to see all of the random over-the-top bullshit in the show.
This show has lived on in my mind for nearly a decade since I watched it. Love the art style so much.
First time I watched P&S when it came out, I just though it was cool, then when I heard Panty swearing in engrish, I understood this show was made with western sesibilities in mind, without reading a wiki or looking for interviews with the creators, that's how intitive the intent of the creators was, so I hunt down the dub version and watched the first episode again, and the curious thing, is that I didn't knew that this show was made from a studio where Evangelion came from, and that eventually will give us the godsends that are KLK and Edgerunners, and the OST, I really have both albulms on my iPod, even though I can't understand the radio drama tracks, and yeah, I am hyped for the alleged season 2.

I'm writing a book, trying to make it work in light novel format, and hoping it gets adapted into an anime.
My protagonist is a rude rich bitch. And I love every scene she's in. The way she callously disregards the everyman and gets her comeuppance just makes her such a joy to write. I remember I was complaining about the portrayal of women in the MCU to this one smoothbrain guy; I was like "You know that scene in Iron Man 2 where Tony gets depressed or something so he's sitting on the couch in his underwear, eating ice cream right out the carton? You will never see them have Black Widow do something so human as that. Nuh uh."
Between that and saying I thought Hinata was the most compelling Naruto character, his whole takeaway from my rant was that I just hate strong women. Fuck him, his hair was mid.
We need more bratty bitches in our media. We need more gals like Panty and Stocking. And I am so overjoyed to know Trigger is making season 2 right now.

I love Ghost Story [English Dub] for the sole fact that it's just voice actors in a recording booth saying "fuck it, we ball" when faced with an objectively bad anime series that didn't even have a complete translation script for them to read to begin with. They can say the most out of pocket shit and nobody will care. Not the studio that made the anime nor the one who tasked them to make this dub. It literally feels like one of those TH-cam streams where a group of friends decide to voice act a game completely blind and make their own inside jokes and narratives either for or at the expense of the game itself.
I was in school back when I watched this. The finale fricked me up so good, I threw my phone on the ground and jumped on it because it really got me fricked up.
