    I farm on a small scale in Ireland. I too have that connection with the land and all the life in it. I harvest and deliver immediately. It makes such a difference to quality. I also feed my family and extended family. Farming is not a bad word

      So lovely to read this - absolutely, farming is not a bad word - very true … I love farming - your kind of poly cultures farming with care. This is the kind of farming we need and the image we have when we think of farming 💚 need more small scale farmers like you so this becomes the norm, rather then large scale monoculture farms. I should have explained my meaning more - apologies 😌 kudos to you my friend, I hope I have not offended you in anyway and thank you for pointing this out 🙏✌️🌿

    Hey Laurie and Dan! Here are my 6 Big Reasons I love Self-Sufficiency...1. Observation - I have to get out into my food forest/garden to see what is going on which brings fresh air to my lungs. 2. The Gardener's Shadow - The best addition I know is turning up on a regular basis in my garden. 3. Reduction of food waste - I only pick what I need from my garden just in time to cook with to maximize flavor and reduce waste. 4. Reduction of micro-plastics - I want to reduce my dependence on the supermarket and their deadly affair with plastic. I take my produce back to the kitchen in a reusable trug. 5. Bragging Rights - I care enough about my family and friends to brag about the fact that a particular dish has so much home grown produce. 6. Leaving a legacy - I take pride in building up the soil first and maintaining a diary of how I have cared for my food forest/garden. I was left a bountiful food forest/garden and intend on passing on an even more productive space. Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers!

    Great video guys. The forest is looking lush, enjoy all that you have grown. I so agree with what you have said. However,It is becoming harder and harder to protect our gardens from the outside elements and nasties, what with the skies above, poor compost and tampered with seeds, but those of us who know, will continue to do the best we can, in order to be able to eat lovely clean foods. Its been a very unusual growing season where we are, with lots of crops not doing well at all and im sure many others will have had the same problem.Its now time to plan ahead and grow what we can for over winter, and wish for a better year next year. Have a great week ,

      Hi Christina, absolutely best to do all that we can indeed 💚 as dispite the seemingly uncontrolable element, our freshest of produce, grow with all the love and good intentions will always nourish us better than anything else 🙌 Tomatoes have been particularly difficult for us this year in one tunnel (again) gonna have to make some more adjustments next season for sure ... planning underway here too 😃 Thanks for watching/commenting as always 🙏✌️🌿

    You have such beautiful gardens with a vast amount of food.
    This is our first year growing our own food. I personally have enjoyed the journey. Not everything has turned out as we thought, but being outside is great for mental health too.
    We're still hopeful that our tomatoes will ripen 😊
    I've managed to grow 1 honeydew melon on each plant but it looks like that plant won't grow more. Not sure why. I'm hand pollinating as they're in the polytunnel. The females are turning yellow now even as tiny buds but I don't know why.
    Next year I'm going to try some smaller ones after watching your video.
    Thank you for sharing

      Hi Jacqui, I am so glad you have enjoyed your first year growing food 💚 Every year is a pretty epic journey and learning experience, thats part of the fun I feel, if everything came out the same each year, it may get a bit boring, instead one year apples do well and we have so many, the next year only a few apple and Pears are prolific and so on 😃 Our tomatoes have been difficult this year too, I am also hoping for a late crop 🤞 Happy gardening 💚✌️🌿

    That’s such a shame as in New Zealand you get paper bags at the supermarket for mushrooms. When I lived in the UK in the 80’s 90’s you could buy fruit and vege loose. I don’t get why it’s changed but I do note in UK grocery hauls they say they can only buy vege packaged up now.
    Odd because I do rate the UK as very forward thinking being green.

      Hi Maria, Yep its been a definite regression and playing into the need for 'convenience' in a hugely negative way here in recent years. I remember nearly all fruit & veg being loose here too! Its good to hear NZ hasn't followed suit, I recall some of the super markets there were actually reintroducing some loose products, like salad before I moved back ... sadly the opposite is happening in the UK, defo not forward thinking anymore compared to NZ or some European countries in my opinion, all very dominated by the big corporations now and the supermarkets especially are pretty cut throat these days 😌 We can all still make our choices though on what we choose to support and I feel that is our loadest voice these day ... how and where we choose to spend our money 😃💚✌️🌿

    When will the penny drop. It makes me so sad to think about what is happening to our planet 😥

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, I know Vanessa, its caused me so much pain and worry over the years, i've come to realise though that quietly sowing seeds and setting examples seems to work better than getting stressed and shouting about it. What will be will be, all we can do is try our best and hopefully guide the change... The planet will heal very fast without us and no doubt be even more beautiful without Humans interfering! 💚🌎🙏

    I'm probably only about 25% self-sufficient in home grown food, if that, but for me it's more about steering clear of seed oils, sugar, and ultra processed food wherever possible. Unfortunately, the majority of the western world seems to be consuming all this junk in ever increasing numbers, with the inevitable side effects to their health. The big food manufacturers are awful and no better than the tobacco industry!

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Couldn't agree more Tony! The food manufactures and the authorising agencies should all be taken to task in my eyes! It is very difficult for people to truly understand what they are eating these days - most of it just shouldn't be allow to be produced! 25% self sufficient from a home garden is awesome and a hugely positive impact for all 🙌 Thanks for watching and commenting as always 💚✌️🌿
