Phenomenal video! The mix of riding and interviewing - 👌. @Logan Patrick Nelson really well done Logan! Inspiring, playful, inventive, and enjoy seeing sequences of multiple attempts to make an idea come to life!

This is just a great video from start to finish. The riding, the filming, the inside knowledge from the Transition guys, that amazing Smuggler... Loved it... And it just made me wanna go ride my bike!
"Most of us don't wear spandex, want to send it all or eat rock gardens for breakfast." Sitting here with an Epic Evo and an Insurgent park bike feeling personally attacked. Great vid, the trail pics make me miss the PNW! The new smuggler looks like an awesome do it all and the sentiment of the vid is right. I used to own an Evil Following with 140/120 and it had that magic fun factor on nearly every trail until you got to the REALLY gnarly stuff. I reached for it most rides.
The Following is an awesome bike. I had one also, bought it for a lighter option than my Sentinel, and same thing, ended up riding it the majority of the time. Cheers - Dan
Thank you so much for this video!! I currently love (and daily ride) my 2015 Smuggler, but have been looking for its replacement. Wanting to stay with the Transition brand, I have been tossing around the idea of the new Spur, but wanted a bit more... Was so excited to see this new Smuggler but was going to wait til next year, for a new color way. After seeing them here, I actually like the colors a lot!! Now it may be time to dust off the credit card!!
I think both the colors are quite nice, although that of course is entirely subjective. We've got the frame loaded up into our Bike Builder, if you're curious how it looks built up different ways. Cheers, Dan www.fanatikbike.com/bike-builder
@danp5812 pretty much all the greens and blues - it was great on crank it up, c'more, H of D, Ninja Cougar, karate monkey, etc. I was tempted to try a few blacks, but I decided not to push my luck.
Dam it... I love the bike I ride (2022 Orbea Occam) which I got because it was so wonderfuly middle of the range and now Transition brings out this bike... I soooo want one!!!!
How does everyone feel about the internal rear brake line routing? Having the rear brake line externally routed was one of the things I loved about Transition frames.
Yeah same here the externally routed rear brake is my preference. But for the majority of people who don’t work on their own bikes the internally routed option is more appealing
This actually does too. They're just internal. It's also not an issue, because that axle has a plastic cylinder around it, so the cables would never actually touch it as it spins. - Dan P
Largely, quite similar. Same travel, very similar geometry. The 5010 is a mullet bike, so may feel a little tighter in corners. It also uses their VPP suspension platform, which has its nuances. Listen to what Logan says about coming from his Tallboy to this bike though, that'll give you some insight. - Dan P
hey @fanatik any ideas what the max insertion is on a large? details seem to be missing from the site, also how does the dropper cable work? is it fully internal and just pops out on the seat tube or is it still a fishing game to get it out?
Nothing against Transition as one day I'd like to own one, but the Specialized Stumpjumper has been this bike since the 90's. Something is still missing...
After a long hiatus from mountain biking , stopped riding when there was still only 26" wheels.Came back to it in 2014 with a Specialized Camber Evo, 29" hoops 120mm travel f&r. That bike was so much fun.
I haven't extensively ridden a Stumpy, just demo bikes a handful of times. But based on that experience, I preferred the Smuggler. Felt more peppy pedaling and pumping, and would be more fun on less steep terrain. Felt equally as good on the descents. - Logan at Fanatik (video guy)
It is a very similar bike. It is less flexy (but also heavier) than a Stumpjumper, and I would say it errs slightly on the more aggressive side of things, where as the Stumpjumper is better suited for slightly mellower trails. If you weigh over 190lbs or push your bike really hard, this might be a better option just because it is less flexy. If not, I'd say pick either! - Dan P.
am I missing something... but where are the holes near the bottom shock mount for the dirt/moisture to go away? I don't get how you can make that in 2023 not a Trek uber fan, but look at the new Fuel EX or even AL Patrol... I don't get why you remove those holes on carbon version If a get a coil, (currently have an RS Ult 2021 one). the rebound knob is near the bottom shock mount and it literally would bathe there I mean... maybe it does not provide lots of benefits for someone, but it does for me :) and that's a deal breaker
Are these heavier than say the Union? What might this be with BERD? Would you guys test bikes with polar wheelset extremes? Maybe a crap bike and phenomenal one. I'm wondering how big a difference a wheelset is to the spec. My mind says it might be a close second to the front fork.
I just hate to say it, the only reason why I didn’t get one is because it doesn’t have the down-tube storage, I love that bike but to me the glove box became a must. Great video as always 👍👍👍
Transition make great looking bikes but I hate when bike brands don't give the option to route the rear brake line on the driveside. Instantly makes the cables messy.
I wonder though, it looks like the cables come out a window just after the BB before entering the rear triangle. Is it possible to just cross the cables there?
@Vic only if you run an AXS seapost because you only have 1 port on the driveside. 2 each side with different grommets to give the required number of exits is how it's done best IMO.
The riding and people make the video. I just find it hard getting excited over a Horst link design. Rinsed and repeated over and over in the 21st century.

How does everyone feel about the internal rear brake line routing?
Having the rear brake line externally routed was one of the things I loved about Transition frames.
I prefer external routing. Swapping brakes doesn't happen often but the choice to do it would be a lot easier with external routing.

Really good review
If they sell an alloy frameset I’ll be picking one up. Otherwise I can’t justify 4k on the NX build. I’ll be sticking to my GT Force… for now.
So good cable routing now. The Spur has cables running right on top of the crank axel which was ridiculous.
This actually does too. They're just internal. It's also not an issue, because that axle has a plastic cylinder around it, so the cables would never actually touch it as it spins.

Did you test it with the shock set to 140mm travel or a 150mm fork? Notice a difference?
Was pretty set on getting a norco optic but now idk this thing looks sick
Where the bottom of the shock mounts won't that hold dirt and wear out that area over time?
