Kikai Shinobu it’s a great phone but it doesn’t get updates for more than a year or 2. At best. So I’d never buy Samsung again. I’ve had s4 (antenna fell off) s3 (died) and the note 2(fell apart) their build quality was shit. Maybe it’s better now who knows

I've got iPhone 6s and I got it for 150 bucks and it's incredibly fast and responsive. Does the job,has decent camera and sound quality. My point is iPhone is good to buy 2 or 3 years after it's release. It's way more cheaper then.

Because the Note 9 doesn’t bring much to the table compared to the Note 8. Unless you want him to create a “The Note 9 is great! Don’t buy it.” Because it would be the exact same problem as the XS Max. It’s just an incremental upgrade and unless your current phone is years old, there’s no reason to upgrade yet.

For all the haters out there who think lew just wanna talk shit about Apple hence “don’t buy it” in the title, well, he did the exact same thing for note 8 when it came out for the exact same reason - cost/performance ratio. I agree with the contention: it’s a great phone, but it’s not worth the price. It’s a greedy move on Apple pushing the high price tag on smart phones and we as consumers need to put a stop to it. For those who wanna argue it would thus “oppress” innovation, no, market and competition will drive up the innovation regardless. It’s a matter of “how much” they would charge for it. If apple decided to incorporate mediocre technology just bc they couldn’t charge the high price tag they wanted to, guess what, apple will be eliminated by market as all the competitors would simply outperform apple. At the end of the day, consumers will get the same level of innovation but at a relatively more reasonable price tag (like we have been before iPhone 10) but it’s contingent upon us to not endorse this high price pushing behavior.

I think once apple users( I myself am one) start protesting against these prices they will change. 1500( higher than my rent) for a phone is insane. Apple users and other users need to start telling these companies to lower their prices. No matter how good the technology is I will not go broke trying to get it. I’ve been very critical of Lew past few videos because they were extremely one-sided against Apple. This video was much more professional and much more objective. The title speaks volumes because I too believe that the iPhone XS is a great phone but very pricey and probably not worth the premium over an iPhone 8 or XR.
The iPhone X is a beautiful phone, amazing processor, and an incredible look, but it doesn't cost 1000+ dollars, a S10 it's a premium amazing phone and a better value

Don‘t buy it. I use iPhones since 10 years. But I am honestly just disgusted by the new price strategy apple has. They think that we as customers are responsible for apples growth, since they don‘t have new exciting products. So they just increase the price. But not with me. Funny... and for the Record the XS Max is a good phone, far from great. I should’ve went with the Note 9 but I wanted to try something new. The HD is no more. True words. It was a different story 5 years back when we had to look at the specs, camera quality, and what not. Today we're at a stage where all smartphones are good & comparable at the most part. Now it's all about personal taste, how much you're willing to invest and what stands out for you with different manufacturers. I'm an Apple user since iPhone 3G, however right now I'm not happy with Apple for many reasons. The price tag is a different story, but things like removing the MagSafe, SD Port and what not on the MacBook is a big thumbs down for me. Despite all that, what stands out is their ecosystem. For me, I think it's literally the best, so far no manufacturer could deliver that. The future could have a different story though. But at the end of the day, it's all about you and just you. If you love something and you think that's the best for you, go get it. Period
Not to say that you are wrong for preferring your ecosystem of choice, but how would you know it's the best ecosystem if you haven't actually tried other devices long enough to actually have an opinion? See many Apple fans have preconceived notions about Android based on misinformation or parroting of information they have heard from others. There is no way to know if you haven't had a modern Android flagship.

I too would love to see the return of Touch ID in some form-whether on the back, the power button, or preferably under the display. That way you could use it in conjunction with Face ID (whichever the phone picks up first) or even as a two factor authentication
I have xs max from more than 2 years and its working awesome . The iphone 11 and 12 are just having a extra ultrawide lens and lidar for which u have to waste your money just for that little. I will switch to the iphone 15-16 when there will be a huge difference. But right now xs max is far awesome
@@seano_19 Had mine for 2+ years now and have had zero issues. Battery will last you a full day no charge, camera is great, screen display and UI speed are great. And considering you can get one of these for $300-$400 now, I say it’s well worth it. Definitely won’t be needing an upgrade soon.

I feel like Lou is a typical android user who doesn’t really ‘get’ iOS. It’s really an all or nothing thing, with the way Apple have their ecosystem that’s when the iPhone really comes into its own. If you try to use it as an isolated device, like using an Huawei phone with Windows laptop & Samsung smartwatch, then sure you’ll do what you wanna get done but it won’t be fun, and you’ll question what you paid

If you already roped in on apple ecosystem, well there's nothing much you can do to have a top of the line phone then to cough up the hefty bucks (or other means), such as what he said in the end. But for a huge number of people who didn't hooked on iMassage (such as in India and China and a lot in gud ol US of A), but still like a quality phone, Lew advice could be considered.
He has to shill the Pixel if he doesn't want to be demonetized by Google, so if he wants his videos to stay high in the search results, you downplay Apple while saying the Pixel is the greatest thing ever. Don't do that? If you drop your phone a bunch I can see it being expensive, but I always get a case and phone looks brand new a year later. I work as an RV tech and broke only one phone by rolling over it with a creeper. And broke one phone a few years before that by it slipping out of my hand pulling out of my pocket. Didn't have a case that time. I liked my iPhone 7, I have the note 9 now and kinda miss the iOS, but mainly cuz I'm trying to adjust to android. But a thousand dollars a year really isn't that bad when you think of all your other bills. I pay $1200 a month on child care and $950 on car payments and sense we sold our house, we're renting an apartment for $1170 a month till we buy another house in 9 months. I'm not rich by any means, but saving a hundred or so a month in the stock drawer can set you up with a pretty sweet phone plus accessories.
Tbf though with any flagship phone you really should have a case if your not prepared to pay to fix it. I mean i have a galaxy s9 plus which is probably cheaper to replace the back glass than the iphone but i still have a case on mine for accidental drops

I got a 350 dlls discount from the phone company, I sold my iPhone 8 Plus for 400 dlls and just paid the difference to get the XS Max, there's always a way.
i work with att we sell this exact device at $10 monthly for 30 months. of course you will get a line as well from att however, if you already have a different provider and your paying your line as well, all factors considered, pricing, reception. i think $10 for 30 months or $300 is a pretty good deal

I strongly disagree...all the points he made were cosmetic ones and not cosmetic in the sense of build quality and durability. Bit old now but I just bought an iPhone XS Max yesterday switching from my Pixel 2 XL. Definitely an overpriced phone.... but that being said, it truly feels like a premium product, the OS is smooth and lacks those glitchy errors I occasionally ran into on Android, there’s something to be said about this phone and the fact that people are STILL willing to say f*ck the price tag. All in all, if you own one, you probably don’t regret it.

It doesn’t delve into the specs, it delves wholly into the experience, and from an omniscient as a perspective as possible. This is the ‘review’ that the average person wants to see.

Very fair review of the XS max, nice to see someone do a video on their honest opinion and not just slate the iPhone for the price. I have been on iOS ever since I got my first phone and never even considered getting an android and that is because I believe that the iPhone gives an all round better package, I am not saying that other android phones don’t give you an all round good package, look at the note 9, as he said it is down to preference and this is why I don’t understand why people get so salty over iOS or android. I have always supported Apple and probably always will and that is down to my preference and at the moment also because of the benchmark numbers, if android genuinely start to fully overtake Apple I still probably wouldn’t switch because it’s down to what a person wants in a phone and not anyone else
Robert Exactly, it’s all about preference. I’ve used iPhones since the iPhone 5 and I haven’t switched. Simply because I prefer something that is more trustworthy in terms of software updates and just overall reliability.
Using software update like some kidn of bargain chip is out of question because if u buy same kind of device(ie flagship) at least 2 years u will get regular updates-on android. And, do not forget apple "updates" where they made older devices slower because battery. Android u can customize much more etc. Still, i agree IOS is one OS made for one device, so if there are some issues-it is easy to fix them. P.S: i dont thik that new iphones are worth the money. Dont see the point switching from 8 or X. Few inches bigger screen is not worth couple hundred $. Yes, cammera is better and rest of the hardware-but 90% of users will not notice this
Robert I agree that phones are all about preference. But the issue with Apple is price. As long as consumers have your mindset, Apple will continue to raise iPhone prices and charge for the smallest things. To charge someone $1100 for an iPhone and not have the courtesy to include a headphone adapter is pretty petty. Especially since one year earlier they included it with their phones. Apple is a money hungry company with no intentions of actually giving consumers what they want. There was just a video released of an undercover company seeing how Apple’s Genius Bar rips off customers who need their parts fixed. A guy took it to Apple and they gave him a quote for $1200 and a guy who fixes MacBooks said it would have cost less than $200 to actually fix the issue. It’s fair as a consumer to have a preference on Operating System, but they shouldn’t rip customers off in the process.

Jannah Stevenson the iPhone 6s is a perfectly powerful current phone. It’s probably one of the better phones bc it has a “Jack” input. The 7/8 make upgrades to like the camera or speed but tbh the 6 is all anyone needs. Thts what this is - an iPhone 6s

Since I’ve upgraded to this new phone, my cell service has been amazing. I have sprint, so I used to go through a lot of dead zones in the middle of nowhere, now I have 4 bars of LTE nearly everywhere.

For all the haters out there who think lew just wanna talk shit about Apple hence “don’t buy it” in the title, well, he did the exact same thing for note 8 when it came out for the exact same reason - cost/performance ratio. I agree with the contention: it’s a great phone, but it’s not worth the price. It’s a greedy move on Apple pushing the high price tag on smart phones and we as consumers need to put a stop to it. For those who wanna argue it would thus “oppress” innovation, no, market and competition will drive up the innovation regardless. It’s a matter of “how much” they would charge for it. If apple decided to incorporate mediocre technology just bc they couldn’t charge the high price tag they wanted to, guess what, apple will be eliminated by market as all the competitors would simply outperform apple. At the end of the day, consumers will get the same level of innovation but at a relatively more reasonable price tag (like we have been before iPhone 10) but it’s contingent upon us to not endorse this high price pushing behavior.
Their inovation is ugly notch.. Maybe next inovation will be dual notch.. At top and the bottom, maybe one notch from the back . Just sayin :)

I’ve been very critical of Lew past few videos because they were extremely one-sided against Apple. This video was much more professional and much more objective. The title speaks volumes because I too believe that the iPhone XS is a great phone but very pricey and probably not worth the premium over an iPhone 8 or XR.

True words. It was a different story 5 years back when we had to look at the specs, camera quality, and what not. Today we're at a stage where all smartphones are good & comparable at the most part. Now it's all about personal taste, how much you're willing to invest and what stands out for you with different manufacturers.
I'm an Apple user since iPhone 3G, however right now I'm not happy with Apple for many reasons. The price tag is a different story, but things like removing the MagSafe, SD Port and what not on the MacBook is a big thumbs down for me. Despite all that, what stands out is their ecosystem. For me, I think it's literally the best, so far no manufacturer could deliver that. The future could have a different story though. But at the end of the day, it's all about you and just you. If you love something and you think that's the best for you, go get it. Period

I have xs max from more than 2 years and its working awesome . The iphone 11 and 12 are just having a extra ultrawide lens and lidar for which u have to waste your money just for that little. I will switch to the iphone 15-16 when there will be a huge difference. But right now xs max is far awesome

@@seano_19 Had mine for 2+ years now and have had zero issues. Battery will last you a full day no charge, camera is great, screen display and UI speed are great. And considering you can get one of these for $300-$400 now, I say it’s well worth it. Definitely won’t be needing an upgrade soon.

If you drop your phone a bunch I can see it being expensive, but I always get a case and phone looks brand new a year later. I work as an RV tech and broke only one phone by rolling over it with a creeper. And broke one phone a few years before that by it slipping out of my hand pulling out of my pocket. Didn't have a case that time. I liked my iPhone 7, I have the note 9 now and kinda miss the iOS, but mainly cuz I'm trying to adjust to android. But a thousand dollars a year really isn't that bad when you think of all your other bills. I pay $1200 a month on child care and $950 on car payments and sense we sold our house, we're renting an apartment for $1170 a month till we buy another house in 9 months. I'm not rich by any means, but saving a hundred or so a month in the stock drawer can set you up with a pretty sweet phone plus accessories.
Tbf though with any flagship phone you really should have a case if your not prepared to pay to fix it. I mean i have a galaxy s9 plus which is probably cheaper to replace the back glass than the iphone but i still have a case on mine for accidental drops

Just because Lew May prefer the Pixel 3 XL over the iPhone XS Max does NOT mean this is a biased video. In fact, I feel like Lew went to great lengths to make this as unbiased as possible BECAUSE he may have a personal preference for Android. This review was packed with research and useful information (and not to mention the fact that he stuck with it for a while using it) and his honest opinion? It’s a really good phone, it’s just not worth the price justification.

I strongly disagree...all the points he made were cosmetic ones and not cosmetic in the sense of build quality and durability. The other point he made was compatibility like alot of cars have carplay which again doesn't reflect the overall quality of the phone both externally and internally ...that last one was a bad point...its like saying Hyundai cars are superior to toyota and Honda because they have a better extended warrantee and support ...that doesn't reflect wether whats under the hood is superior or the overall performance of the cars in general ....same as his points not actually pointing out the quality of both the build as well as its internals...i guess if you just want a phone to be trendy and cool among your apple fan boys that congrats . ..hes even admitted in other videos where he talks about phones like the razor phone that they are doing way more inovative stuff than iphones are in fact the iphone xr is taking a step backwards being advertised as a entry level iphone at $700 plus and your getting an iPhone 4 display that doesnt even display 1080 anything ....video totally fucking biased or dellusional at minimum

Bit old now but I just bought an iPhone XS Max yesterday switching from my Pixel 2 XL. Definitely an overpriced phone.... but that being said, it truly feels like a premium product, the OS is smooth and lacks those glitchy errors I occasionally ran into on Android, there’s something to be said about this phone and the fact that people are STILL willing to say f*ck the price tag. All in all, if you own one, you probably don’t regret it.

Very fair review of the XS max, nice to see someone do a video on their honest opinion and not just slate the iPhone for the price. I have been on iOS ever since I got my first phone and never even considered getting an android and that is because I believe that the iPhone gives an all round better package, I am not saying that other android phones don’t give you an all round good package, look at the note 9, as he said it is down to preference and this is why I don’t understand why people get so salty over iOS or android. I have always supported Apple and probably always will and that is down to my preference and at the moment also because of the benchmark numbers, if android genuinely start to fully overtake Apple I still probably wouldn’t switch because it’s down to what a person wants in a phone and not anyone else
Robert Exactly, it’s all about preference. I’ve used iPhones since the iPhone 5 and I haven’t switched. Simply because I prefer something that is more trustworthy in terms of software updates and just overall reliability.

Using software update like some kidn of bargain chip is out of question because if u buy same kind of device(ie flagship) at least 2 years u will get regular updates-on android. And, do not forget apple "updates" where they made older devices slower because battery. Android u can customize much more etc. Still, i agree IOS is one OS made for one device, so if there are some issues-it is easy to fix them.
P.S: i dont thik that new iphones are worth the money. Dont see the point switching from 8 or X. Few inches bigger screen is not worth couple hundred $. Yes, cammera is better and rest of the hardware-but 90% of users will not notice this
Robert I agree that phones are all about preference. But the issue with Apple is price. As long as consumers have your mindset, Apple will continue to raise iPhone prices and charge for the smallest things. To charge someone $1100 for an iPhone and not have the courtesy to include a headphone adapter is pretty petty. Especially since one year earlier they included it with their phones. Apple is a money hungry company with no intentions of actually giving consumers what they want. There was just a video released of an undercover company seeing how Apple’s Genius Bar rips off customers who need their parts fixed. A guy took it to Apple and they gave him a quote for $1200 and a guy who fixes MacBooks said it would have cost less than $200 to actually fix the issue. It’s fair as a consumer to have a preference on Operating System, but they shouldn’t rip customers off in the process.

Since I’ve upgraded to this new phone, my cell service has been amazing. I have sprint, so I used to go through a lot of dead zones in the middle of nowhere, now I have 4 bars of LTE nearly everywhere.
