Congratulations on restoring your pig heard almost back to the same levels although I still miss seeing Chit, Den and the old white sow. You're such a hard working and dedicated farmer.
Hello Kieu, I'm happy to see your pig farm flourishing again. Through hard work and perseverance, you and your family are now rebuilding the pig population and expanding the farm. Stay healthy so you can continue to care for your family and animals. I totally agree with one of your regular viewers below, Sandra, who suggested a low-cost and effective way to build a quarantine space (separated from your existing pig barn) in your expanded farm area. Instead of using tarp, you can use bamboo/wood and palm/banana leaves that are plentiful in your area and they are free. Set up something similar to what your daughter built for Peppi (bamboo & palm/banana leaves for roof) so you can keep newly bought piglets in and they will be separated from your main barn. Isolate them for a minimum of 3 weeks (the ASF virus can incubate for up to 3 weeks). When there is no sign of disease, you can bring the new piglets into the main barn. Even though you now go to reputable households to buy piglets, you hire a truck to transport the piglets back to your farm. Do you know if the truck driver disinfected his truck before putting in your piglets? (I didn't see him washing his truck after he delivered the piglets to your farm. It could mean he didn't disinfect his truck after every delivery.) The driver could have transported other animals in his truck before picking up your piglets and if other animals carried germs/viruses/bacteria, your piglets riding in that truck could bring home the disease. That's why it's still very important to take precautions when bringing home outside animals back to your farm. They should be quarantined for at least 3 weeks before combining them into your main barn (which now houses 2 other herds of commercial pigs, 4 wild pigs, and your 2 precious pregnant sows -- a total of 23 pigs, not including the 14 new piglets. If one pig gets sick, you are risking the other 36 pigs in the same barn & the unborn piglets in Peppi and Lucky.) The money you have invested in these 37 pigs is more than what it costs (or free if you use local wood/bamboo and leaves for roofing) to set up a quarantine area away from the main barn for newly bought animals. The ASF virus is not extinct and there are other diseases that affect farm animals. Have another think about setting up a separate quarantine area on your farm.
Hello my good friend, Thank you all for your suggestions, I should build a pig pen to quarantine newly purchased pigs. I think building a pig barn to isolate newly purchased pigs is very correct, because it will ensure the safety of the pigs on the farm and not be infected with diseases from outside. Although I have considered buying pigs from households with safe pigs. But it is not 100% guaranteed. Therefore, building a separate pig barn is necessary, but so far I have not been able to do it. Maybe I'll make a simple pig pen out of bamboo and thatched with palm leaves like you said. As you may remember, Peppi was given to my daughter. If Peppi had stayed on the farm during the epidemic, Peppi probably wouldn't have survived. Now Kieu's daughter has brought Peppi back to Kieu. She is pregnant and is 20 days away from giving birth. Good luck Peppi ❤️❤️❤️
@@countrylifemyfarm4885 Exactly Kieu, Peppi was staying with your daughter during the ASF outbreak. If she was staying in the main barn, she may not have survived. It's better to take extra precautions to do more than to take chances and skip steps. Go slower and protect the rest of the animals on your farm when you bring newly purchased animals back to your farm. You've invested so much in your herds. Stay healthy and safe! It may mean you need a few extra days or a week to set up a simple quarantine pen away from the main barn, but you're doing so to safeguard your existing animals and investment. 👍
Your message radiates positivity and encouragement, celebrating Ms. Kieu's dedication to rebuilding and expanding her pig farm despite challenges. It's uplifting and supportive, acknowledging the hard work and perseverance required in farming. suggestion about the low-cost quarantine space sounds intriguing. Have you considered implementing any other innovative solutions or ideas to further improve the efficiency and sustainability of your farm operations?
The farm that you bought the piglet's from was very clean and the existing pig herd plus piglet's, very healthy. Big surprise for the piglet's feeding from mum in the morning learning to eat solid food solely in the afternoon. Hopefully the previous owner was already feeding the piglet's some solid foods in preparation to weaning prior to the sale. I had hoped you would have prepared a small quarantine barn away from your main piggery for new arrivals prior to purchase. No need for a big barn, use the existing new fenced off area in the corner below the sweet potatoes planting. No need for a big barn Just 3 metre's by 3 metre's and with the corner fencing you already have two sides. Concrete flooring only 5 cm depth (they are only piglets) and a mesh fencing on the other two sides to form the enclosure. Depending on the time of year warm up the little barn with tarps around the sides and make a small pitched roof also with tarpaulins. You only have to leave them there for say 3 weeks, and if no illness apparent, THEN move them into their permanent barns in the main piggery. But some quarantine measures are essential so history does not repeat itself. The suggested small separate barn need not be elaborate but just done cheaply as its function is only to hold piglet's for 3 weeks. Buying new big sows well then you will need to look at a more strong structure. But very good to see the recovery of your pig farm flourishing under your tender care.
Hello my respected friend, I know that it is very important to have a specially built barn to quarantine newly purchased pigs. As the diagram you say, what a great way. But I haven't done this yet. Therefore, I have to look for households with safe, disease-free pigs. To learn from experience, I don't dare buy floating pigs in the market anymore. Thank you very much, wish you always healthy and optimistic in life. ❤️❤️❤️
I totally agree with you, Sandra. I've also suggested to Kieu to plan a quarantine area in her expanded farm land for newly purchased pigs until they are free of diseases before combining them into her barn, but she said they don't have the budget for it. What you suggested above is low cost and still workable. Kieu says she now goes to reputable households to buy her piglets from, but she transports them home in a hired truck. Did the truck driver disinfect his truck before loading Kieu's newly bought piglets? The driver could have been transporting other animals in his truck and if those animals carried germs/bacteria, the piglets that Kieu puts in that truck could bring home the disease. Therefore, it's still very important to take precautions when bringing home outside bought animals to the farm. They should be quarantined for at least 3 weeks before bringing them into the barn. It seems like Kieu still has ways to learn regarding bio-security and quarantining of outside bought animals :( Painful lessons not learned...
@@countrylifemyfarm4885 My apologies I know you will build a separate facility as your funds allow when you can. My comment was because the piglets were not in their new barn for even 5 minutes before they were poking their snouts to greet the more mature piglets in the next door barn. It would not hurt to place a tarp over this open area to prevent easy physical contact with the adjoining more mature pigs. To be honest my initial thoughts were 14 piglets: how old is this sow ? how many times has she given birth to sows, Now lets look at the price you want for the piglets and how much do you want for the sow. If good arrangement , keep yor piglets and I will buy your sow to breed my own piglet's. but alas you have to make your decisions based on reality not from comments by a fool in another country.
Hola, una cerda puede parir 14 lechones, lo cual es una pasada. Afortunadamente, Kieu pudo comprarlos y criarlos hasta convertirlos en cerdos grandes y gordos. Muchas gracias.
I suggest you construct a small penn a distance away for receiving newly bought piglets. Keep them away for sometime to be sure they are not infected before mixing them with your herd. The risk is too huge.

Hello, in rural Vietnam, in addition to farming, we mainly raise pigs and chickens. There are many different ways to raise pigs. If you feed them bran cooked with local foods such as corn, potatoes, and cassava, the pigs will grow slowly. But profits will be higher.
