I really don't understand why blighttown is hated apart from the fact that it lagged on consoles. It's a cool and unique small area that takes like 40 minutes to get through, 15 if you know what you're doing. Tomb of the giants, and the place before and after that are objectively worse.

The true bog of misery is the second stage of the Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls. The Swamp of Sorrows. That area is the pits.
