Askeladd died saving Canute,Wales but also Thorfinn. He could've easily said Floki was the one who paid him to kill Thors..but that would just lead to Floki being the next placeholder for Thorfinn's quest of revenge. Askeladd chose to free Thorfinn from all of it
And then Season 2 lost to JuJutsu Kaisen, which considering how absurdly good S2 is, feels like even more of a shame. Season 2 might very well be in my top 3 anime seasons of all time.
Now that you're all caught up, I can finally make a comparison. This goes back to Fate. Remember that servants get basic modern information downloaded directly into their mind when they are summoned. Al aka Iskandar was someone who spent his entire life trying to reach the ends of the world. When he was first summoned back in Fate Zero, the first thing he did was grab the nearest map to confirm something, then laughed at silly men and their small yet dumbass dreams. The next thing he did was ask Weaver what wish he wanted fulfilled, afterwards he also laughed at Weaver for having such a simple and dumbass dream yet promised to help him achieve it. This is a rewatch moment where you realize that Al has already gotten his wish of seeing just how big the world really is and now fighting in the grail war just for Weaver. Askeladd also has a blink and you'll miss it rewatch moment very similar to Al a couple of episodes back. I'm 100% certain that if you guys were to rewatch this series in the future, you'll notice immediately and have a tearful chuckle. Well written shows are the best.
I let it sit for a couple of years to make sure it's not recency bias, but im pretty sure now that Askeladd is one of my favourite characters in fiction. I think I could talk for hours about him, and its been a lot of fun hearing you guys discuss his actions, merits and flaws too.
Askeladd is by far my favourite character in this series. That season 2 doesn't just remain as strong as S1, but gets so much better even after he's left the scene, is really nothing short of amazing.
Christine and I really enjoyed South Carolina. Having lived near Savannah, Georgia for 4 years, it was easy to visit Charleston, which is a great place.
@@TheGenreVerse A lot of folks colloquially refer to the second season as "Farmland Saga". Which, while admittedly pretty funny, really undersells the more horrific aspects of the story.
@@TheGenreVerse for more context, the author of Vinland Saga came up with this story and originally planned it to start where season 2 start, but after thinking about it with his editor he came up to the conclusion that is better to start with Thorfinn's background as a character and how he came to be what he is in the second season. That's why the first arc is called The Prologue, and why the last episode of the first season is called End of the Prologue
Sorry, I should have been a little more clear... I'm wondering when the actual VINLAND saga begins because 16 episodes of Slave Farm so far ain't it! 🤣 S2 is really good though.
@@TheGenreVerse hahaha I get it, this story have a tricky name. Is called like that because Vinland is the goal of the story. NOT the actual place, but the idea of a place like Vinland Light spoilers of the story post-season 2 below: But yes, this story will get to the territory of Vinland... probably in season 4 🤣

Yup... A noble act.
This somehow lost anime of the year in 2019 to Demon Slayer
And Askeladd somehow lost antagonist of the year to Isabella i believe was her name, from Promised Neverland. Absolute blasphemy.
@thorkagemob1297 and then the fucking disrespect to season 2. Fuck crunchyroll
Shame!

@@whyoowhy what can we say, it's probably a popularity vote and many are watching KNY because of beautiful esthetics but bland storyline...
You have finished the prologue! Woo hoo! Now cue my fav piece of season so far in all of anime
"An adventure season next season, sounds like fun" hehe I love season 2
Yeah... It's not an adventure at all! 😂
It’s a life changing season atleast for me lol
@@codplays6412 agreed fantastic story telling. I cried a few times

Hey thanks for the Carolina shoutout! Lived here for a long time.

Season 2 to me is one of the best written and emotionally moving seasons in Anime.
Tbh still in my opinion the best episode in Vinland.
Askeladd knew ther is a farming arc coming for Thorfinn 😅
"Farming arc"... 😒

The adventure in season 2 is mainly emotional and spiritual. Actual nuanced storytelling meant for adults.
We're up to 2x16 so far. Will hopefully finish next week...
Now that the prologue has ended, the real Vinland Saga begin
🤔
