My great great grandmother is buried in that cemetery the avatar on her stone reads a faithful servant for 44 years and her name . The family she worked for from the age of 13 really Treated her with the upmost respect which for the day was quite the rarity and the story is still passed down through my family to this day . They paid for her funeral and stone and insisted she had one of the best resting places in the cemetery which was fairly new at the time . I’ve only made the Journey twice in my lifetime to visit her resting place .
Now that is interesting, wish I'd found her, yes it's rare to see a servant treated with love and respect, I've found a few similar to your great, great grandmother and it's so beautiful to see and read.
Beautiful cemetery. Poor Edward. Wonder what caused his casket to collapse like that. I remember my great-grandmother telling us of a neighbor lady who passed. The doctor who had checked her while she was in a coma couldn't hear her heartbeat and pronounced her dead. They were having her wake and they had to put her on ice due to the hot Texas summer. While someone was sitting with her, she sat up and said that she was freezing. This caused the person sitting with her to scream and the others went in and she was very much alive. My grandmama said the lady lived for a few more years. That is probably why a lot of people were scared to be buried alive. Thanks for sharing Sue!
Embalming stopped the fear of being buried alive. Once the body is embalmed, there’s no coming back. But before embalming, there were stories & indeed the fear of being buried alive. Thank you, Sue for revisiting this lovely place.💖
But it also brought about a fear of being embalmed alive. Just recently there has been a man wake up screaming while doctors were cutting into him for organs since he was a donor and thought to be dead.

Just curious? Why are the tombs above ground? I lived in New Orleans for a while, and they do that there also, only because the water table is so high when there's a storm the water level rises very quickly and will push the coffins up and out of the ground.

When someone went to the tomb, they noticed what looked like blood coming from the inside. I guess they opened it to try to find out why. Apparently, she gave birth and she had one baby on her chest and then other beside her around waist level. They said that she had pulled all of her hair out and had turned completely around. The last time I saw her grave in the early 2000's. My sweet son is also buried in a mausoleum in a neighboring town. If you look at a map of the United States, Buras is about 60 miles south of New Orleans along the Mississippi River. A lot of tombs and graves were destroyed years ago by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. After the storm, before the authorities allowed people to go back to assess the damage. A lot of the tombs and graves were broken open and the contents were all over the place. They found a lot of well dressed people in the trees and such.
Another amazing Sue video, thank you! It's the first time i see a Magen David aka Jewish star ✡ with a skull in the middle😲That's quite interesting, i wonder if Francis Meacher was a convert from Judaism?
Hi guys, beautiful graves. Chain attached to a coffin ? today it's meaning/ saying, would be, Saved by the bell. Wondering if anyone was ever saved by the bell, years ago ? Cheers. 👍🏻
Victorian era tombstones and grave markers certainly had a specific type of charm didn't they? The Memento Mori thing was almost always present, usually in the form of a skill or other dark imagery, like the Grim reaper and his scythe. Instantly identifiable from a distance as being from the 1800s.
My father had two first cousins, sisters, who were afraid of being buried alive. One died in 2003 and opted to be cremated. Do lead coffins stay intact or do they deteriorate in time?
I had never heard of Mt. Jerome before. I usually equate Glasnevin and the graves of Daniel O’Connell and Michael Collins as the Dublin house of the dead. As usual, you piqued my interest in history. Maria, Countess de Lusi, married Count Frederick de Lusi and as she lived to a great age for the time (81) and so became a dowager countess.
Such an incredible waste of money surrounding bodies that waste away to dust. Souls leave their earthly bodies and move along to heavenly places. We will all be together again.
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Im glad Victorians didn't agree with the commentator, so they left those amazing burial grounds for us taphophiles to enjoy and appreciate😄

In Europe, it's wonderful that you can peek inside crypts, vaults and mausoleums to see the actual coffins resting inside, that's not the case in the US😞American cemeteries require people to cover the crypts with a granite or marble slab🤷♀It's interesting to see the coffins because they vary greatly in style and form, depending on the craftsmanship and era, for ex it would be super amazing to see the cast-iron Fisk metallic burial cases of 1850s which were invented by Almond Dunbar Fisk of New York
Hi Sue , being buried alive is still real because I suffer from it I know it’s daft but I have nightmares about it that’s why I want to be cremated and I’ve warned my kids not to have me buried under any circumstances. This video is fascinating I love the really old gravestones.
Sue, remember Gay Byrne always saying "You can roll it there, Colette"? As I'm watching, I keep saying 'Steadt the gimble. Sue." I only said it a couple of times watching this one.

@@giannaezekiel5666 I don't know, it sure is very interesting
Hi guys, beautiful graves. Chain attached to a coffin ? today it's meaning/ saying, would be, Saved by the bell. Wondering if anyone was ever saved by the bell, years ago ? Cheers. 👍🏻
Thanks
Hey. Do you often hear EVP sounds ?
Occasionally on videos yes, not all the time
Edward still needs his Guinness.
He's hanging in there a long time John, I'll have to bring one next time I visit
Victorian era tombstones and grave markers certainly had a specific type of charm didn't they? The Memento Mori thing was almost always present, usually in the form of a skill or other dark imagery, like the Grim reaper and his scythe. Instantly identifiable from a distance as being from the 1800s.
I definitely have a love for the Victorian cemeteries and graves, they certainly knew how to bury their loved ones with these amazing monuments
My father had two first cousins, sisters, who were afraid of being buried alive. One died in 2003 and opted to be cremated. Do lead coffins stay intact or do they deteriorate in time?
Some do but eventually they break down too
Is County Dublin same as the City of Dublin?
Or was the City a part of the County.
The city is the big town, the county holds lots of smaller towns and villages. Dublin is the capital of Ireland
@@vdimasteremeritus thanks, yes Mount jerome and Glasnevin are huge cemeteries in Dublin, both well worth a visit
Gorgeous. Had to look up XL tho, poor guy was only 40!
How sad
Such an incredible waste of money surrounding bodies that waste away to dust. Souls leave their earthly bodies and move along to heavenly places. We will all be together again.
So true but I have to admit to loving these memorials
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Im glad Victorians didn't agree with the commentator, so they left those amazing burial grounds for us taphophiles to enjoy and appreciate😄
@giannaezekiel5666 ahh yes, I do have to admit, I'm slightly obsessed with these monuments
Recently seen a video on the American Lamont at large , which he does the same as you Sue , he showed the grave of a lady that had recently passed away but maybe a few monthss before she was pronounced dead by Doctor and ambulance paramedics at the nursing home she was in. Hours later they get the lady out of a body bag from a fridge ,at a funeral home they unzip it for her to open her eyes etc , she lived Funeral directors must have.literraly Messed there pants with the shock.
I love Lamont, best youtuber out there, his stories are so well told
In Europe, it's wonderful that you can peek inside crypts, vaults and mausoleums to see the actual coffins resting inside, that's not the case in the US😞American cemeteries require people to cover the crypts with a granite or marble slab🤷♀It's interesting to see the coffins because they vary greatly in style and form, depending on the craftsmanship and era, for ex it would be super amazing to see the cast-iron Fisk metallic burial cases of 1850s which were invented by Almond Dunbar Fisk of New York
Thank you, yes they are very Interesting
The walls of some of those tombs look like they were made to mimic the walls of ossuaries (catacombs) made of stacked bones.
They do
Why is the chain there?
If she woke from the coffin, she could pull it and someone would hear it and rescue her
Hi Sue , being buried alive is still real because I suffer from it I know it’s daft but I have nightmares about it that’s why I want to be cremated and I’ve warned my kids not to have me buried under any circumstances. This video is fascinating I love the really old gravestones.
It's a fear I've never really worried about, I think because we tend to wake our loved ones for a few days after death
Just Imagine actually Hearing a bell in the graveyard as you passed by!
I know right, scary stuff
Sue, remember Gay Byrne always saying "You can roll it there, Colette"? As I'm watching, I keep saying 'Steadt the gimble. Sue." I only said it a couple of times watching this one.
I do, ahh bless Gay Byrne, he was a legend.
I have no idea how Edward was in life, but at least he always greets his visitors with a big smile in death☠😂
I adore Edward. He's always there when I visit, laid back happy chap
