Vikings, Witches, Ruins, Writers and Cliff Richard. A Walk around Slack. Hebden Bridge

Since the last updated video about Viking face carvings across Calderdale, some of my local subscribers have been searching the rocks on the hillsides, hoping to find the elusive lost army.
Recently, one was found by a viewer, Catherine, so I eagerly headed past Heptonstall to Slack Top (and Bottom, naturally) to find it.
Whilst in Slack I had an interesting couple of hours, exploring forgotten graveyards, talking to locals about people and happenings from the past, and then headed to the moors.....

Worked up there on a farm at Highgate in the 70s, miserable in winter, now Mays shop, sells everything-worth a visit

Ahhh....can't believe I missed out May's Shop....that's annoying. Maybe a video on its own? 🙂

@@matparks08 yes that would be good, visited her earlier this year to reminisce about our time together working her farm in the late sixties,early seventies- very happy times

Shame you couldn't get in the old farmhouse. Wouldnt mind you going back to the graveyard again for a closer look . 👍 the anchor grave and possible war memorial 🤔

Yeah, I'm sure there were some good tales from the Graveyard. From what i could see into the farm I think they may be starting renovation. I could spy a carving saying 1993 on the fireplace 🙂

A quick google says there are 5 commonwealth war graves within the cemetery.. be grateful if you could do a re visit video .. at some point 👍😁

Interesting video.. Do you know who did the carvings and when these faces were carved into the rocks?

Hiya. Roughly year 2000 and by a sculptor in Cragg Vale called Paul Frechette. I don't know much more unfortunately....so the hunt continues 🙂
