I do hope all this wasn't too confusing. To explain why his abilities seemed so all over the place and why the information you've heard about him might be a bit odd and contradictory; Aatrox had a complete rework in 2019 which is the version of him you've seen in the spotlight, interractions, login screens etc.
MagikarpUsedFly's video was from 2017, from before Aatrox got reworked. Back then his abilities were really strange and bad, and he was considered one of the worst champions in the whole game. After his rework however, he's considered quite strong and sees quite a lot of play in the higher tiers of play.
Most of the champions you've reviewed so far have been relatively new (read: made in the last 2-3 years) and thus haven't been reworked or have a lot of conflicting information about them online. Evelynn was actually also originally very bad, but was also reworked (i think in 2018) into who she is today.
So yeah, look out for reworks when researching your champs, as a good chunk of the champions in this game have seen their whole gameplay, lore, art etc. overhauled at some point in the past. ^^

Aatrox in his old version is inspired by Legion Commander who had banner in his back as Aatrox banner wings
if you are wondering why is he screaming so much ,well he was trapped in his sword for a Milena and nobody could hear his cries or ask for help and now he is released he wants to be heard
The joke with Varus apart for his name its because theres another Darkin in the game called "Rhaast" so basically all darkins have the double A except Varus, who before the game had any lore wasnt a darkin
Loved them interaction thought they were so funny. Like how Aatrox has this comedic side to him but at the same time wants to absorb your soul and destroy your body!

Aatrox is one of the couple champions that have been fully reworked. Aatrox' visual and his entire lore has been changed, so what you are seeing in the old login screen is not 100% connected to the modern lore.

Kled interaction are insanly funny, if you want another champion to review
2:51 he just absorbes blood there, he wasnt trapped in his sword in his old lore. He was something similar to god of war, he appeared in the wars on losing sides and turned loses to victories, but soldiers couldnt forget what they did when they were effected by him.
If you're confused about this 'Rhaast' character, he's another Darkin, a "secret" champion, if you will, I won't spoil who he's connected to though, hope you react to 'them' soon though so you get to know him 😊
I suggest you should read "Twilight of The Gods" as it explained how Darkins were wiped out and trapped. In that story you will learn about Darkin/Ascended history and also a glimsp of why Aatrox hates Zoe so much :D
This story is pretty long so it'd take a whole full video to cover so i don't expect them to come out any time soon but it's a really good read if you want to explore it yourself without reacting or uploading to youtube :D

Magikarpusedfly’s video is about the older version of Aatrox, when he first came out and many years after. The Aatrox you have been seeing in the normal spotlight and login screen is the reworked version.
There are different stages of reworks, and during the time Magikarp made his video Aatrox was considered such a bad champion that Riot desided to fully rework him. They changed every single abillity, how he looked, his voice lines and almost everything about him. The old and new version are basically different champions, and that’s why the two spotlights are so different.
Other champions who this channel has videos on that have been reworked recently are: Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Evelynn and Pantheon.
All of these champs had an older version with very different abbiliities and designs. They were considered really bad, so Riot basically gave them a ”new life” with the rework.
It wasn't zoe who trapped him, but Myeisha, the previous aspect of twilight before zoe

Lets remember Aatrox was a noble warrior that was corrupted by the void and trap inside his wepons for thousands of years. He is obiously crazy, thats why at one time he is shouting at Taric to get a haircut and in another his is yelling he will reap your spine out of your body.
I think he's crazy because the Void corrupted him (most Darkin were too). In "Twilight of The Gods" you can see how Darkins mentally damaged after the war.

I would play old Aatrox jungle all the time when I got stuck with the role in normals. It was not good, but fuck em, I didn't want to jungle.
Fun Fact, that was Kayle, Morgana and Akali BEFORE their reworks. They all look so gorgeous now. SPECIALLY my Morgana
pantheon was the one to trick and enslave aurelion sol via the crown he wears. zoe is aurelion's ally, assisting him in protection of the stars and cosmos against pantheon, who wishes to destroy it all.

As a note, the "Actual Spotlight" you watched was of the oldest Aatrox, which they just left in the shitter for many years as was said in that video. However after that video was released he got a mini rework where he still looked the same but his kit got updated and he was actually pretty decent for the first time several years after his release. But he was then less then a year after that FULLY reworked into the champion you saw in the interactions as well as the real spotlight. That new iteration was too strong at top levels of play, he absolutely dominated pro levels of play for an entire season even when he was nerfed repeatedly, so he was once again given another mini rework that made him very bad in normal play for the average everyday player (they even fully removed his reviving mechanic cause pro players could abuse it) but left him still decent in pro play so Riot just refuses to buff him for the 99% of their playerbase that aren't pro players lol
It's rumored he might be getting some decent changes in a few months time though when the new season starts.
Also on another note his lore was vastly different in his original iteration you saw in the "actual spotlight." Now he's one of a few Darkin who were ascended beings that fell to the corruption of the void and were sealed away into weapons, only to have recently started escaping by taking over hosts and absorbing life force in order to sustain their forms. Previously he was an unknown being dubbed "Darkin" by an explorer who discovered his existence, and was rumored to be from a different planet, and he had come to this planet in order to start war and conflict to strengthen the populations and nations of this world so they could hopefully fight an unknown threat that supposedly destroyed his home world.
So he used to be a being that started conflict and war and would prolong it, with quotes like "fight and be remembered, or die and be forgotten." He was fairly mellow and almost noble, seeking only to make people stronger through carnage so they could survive an unknown enemy. Now he's his crazy self bent on ending all reality in order to free himself from his eternal prison.
The new lore is waaaaaay more interesting, not gonna lie, his original lore was supposed to be all rumors and mystery but it was kind of abandoned when Riot just couldn't properly balance him in game. He still has balancing issues but lore-wise he's much better now lol

He complimented Jax because he's a really skilful warrior(lore wise),his title Grandmaster At Arms says it all, that's why he is using a lampost as a weapon now...to give everyone else a chance
Aatrox is a absolute monster in s11 which makes me very happy,he has gained lot of popularity in pro play as well

Ever seen azir? He's awesome, he's probably the best way to get into the lore of Shurima, being it's immortal emperor and all. He has 2 teasers, very beautiful and stylistic, his story and origin is great, one of my favorites and he plays a pretty big role in most shuriman champion story's as well, like nasus, renekton, xerath, Taliah and other's.
His play style is extremely unique and he's incredible difficult to play but very flashy if you do it right.
I like him a lot and I think you would as well.
I really like Azir's story.
I just read the story "Water and shade to you" from the Reams of Runeterra book. It gives you a good idea of what he will do now that the returned and how others see him.

Theres a channel named Exil who did a very well done video about Aatrox before and after his rework because there was a point right before his rework where he was really strong and was a viable pick in pro play and people were not wanting him to be reworked because he was finally in a good spot

Man I would love to see your reaction on Kled he is one of the funniest champs in league, you will love his voicelines! if you do check him out, I recommend you to hear his voicelines instead of just the interactions (5:30 on the Skinspotlights kled voice video) that way you will get a clear look on his character and friendship with Skaarl (the creature he rides and only friend) you will not be dissapointed
Yei Irelia and Swain next. Both also had reworks, but they were so old that you cant accidentally search them up
oh boy I'm early.
There are, I think, 5 main darkin in the lore we know of only three by name. Rhaast, Varus, and Aatrox. But at their peek there were hundreds and yes Zoe (or one of her previous incarnations) taught the people how to bind the darkin in their weapons.
The actaul champ spotlight covered old aatrox :) at the end old aatrox was meta and he was played a lot in pro play, there was just a way that players didnt discover until a little bit before his rework. nowadays aatrox is played only in certain situations and is actually strong if you snowball out of control, u are basically 1v5 boss then. Also its mostly played in higher ranks because of his skill cap so people that say that he is bad either dont wanna learn how to play him or are just new to the game :)
Yo! Seriously, Azir IS a cool character. U rly should check him out... Both his gameplay and lire are just bumping (he is Ascended, but he isnt noble as Nasus or mad as Aatrox, he is still kinda human with humans issues).

43:31 "Get Ryze another rework" is a running joke on the community, Ryze has been reworked SIX TIMES, HIS SKILLS HAVE ALL BEEN REARRANGED, IT HAS DONE ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT STUFF, AND HIS LORE HAS BEEN CHANGE LITERALLY SIX TIMES, the current version of Ryze is literally the SEVENTH VERSION of the champion, and Riot has somewhat finally managed to control that unbalance-able champion
44:10 that actual champion spotlight was made in 2017, Riot did listen and reworked Aatrox on 2019, that's when Riot released the official champion spotlight, people say that Aatrox was just a shell of his former self, because 2019 reworked Aatrox was really powerful, he had a free revive, very hugh lifesteal, paired with an insanely fast attack speed, they since did a mini-rework on the champion, where they removed the attack speed buff and changed it to armor shred, and lessened his overall lifesteal, and (after many many months of thought from Riot) they removed the revive om his ultimate, now it just gives a huge movement speed and a small attack speed buff, where the duration gets extended each time he gets a takedown, also keeping the fear where it activates each time he casts his ult, and gets a takedown while ult is active
So funny how he didnt realize that magicaro used fly video is for aatrox before he got reworked

Also in the actual spotlight you see the old Aatrox. He was updated to the version you see in the spotlight. His update made him actually far too strong for the players that could play him and they needed to change him again, but instead of making another full re-work they just removed the revive part of the ultimate.
The magikarp used fly video is his older version. Long story short, he sucked in the beginning and he stayed that way for a very long time. Riot finally decided to do something, reworked his entire set of abilities. He became OP, they nerfed him to the ground then continued to do so until he reached the center of the Earth.

In Magikarp's video you watched, he was reviewing the old Aatrox, that's why he had different abilities then he does today. Nowadays Aatrox is actually a decent champion.

Magikarp video covered the pre-rework Aatrox not the current one so i'd suggest you watch Exil's video "The Only Deleted Champion In League" as it will give you more information about his whole story. Aatrox before rework was weak af but then Riot decided to buff him into god tier just before he got reworked. This somehow got many people triggered as for the first time in many years Aatrox finally became a good champion and they reworked him. When his rework came out people HATED it, they changed his whole identity to Riven 2.0 with much slower pace, clunky skills. Then he got buffs patches by patches and became the best top laner in the game, pros abused it so much that most of his mechanics in the orginal spotlight were changed or removed, leaving Aatrox basically a decent champion now.

The reason why aatrox is joking so much in his interactions is because he is tauting his enemy, basically making them fight him to make it easier and quicker.

The Aatrox before his Rework ( complete redesign of lore, abilities and ingame ) was quite under loved they made only a few changes to him and it was simply too weak he was outdealed by most champions making him not really playable, shortly before his rework he got his first buff which made him playable not overpowered, perfectly how he should be.
Then they Reworked him, he got quite strong because of that and nerfed him again.. which made him still too strong so they removed alot of his core kit, meaning he cant revive anymore on the standart way, that made him very weak but if you play him alot and know how to play Aatrox then he still hits like a truck, but again hes very situational meaning you cant play him simply you want to more because he fits in the team compsition
you are essentially looking at two characters named Aatrox, the skinny Aatrox was before his rework, before Darkin existed as aconcept, when his story was actually "Aatrox is an alien who is trying to be a god of war, and has been in almost every major war in human history", he got his entire kit and his look changed about 2 years ago at this point.
league's Champions are released deliberately over-tuned, partly to build hype about them, and so people will see their playstyle strengths, then they nerf them over time until they are either balanced or replaced by a new one that does what they do, better.
Most tragic part about Aatrox, is that he was considered super bad and unfun for literally 3 years, then riot buffed him when they began his rework process, BUT THEN-
in a horrible twist of fate, Aatrox (the skinny one) became popular and loved by the community because of the buffs/chenges they did, even seeing pro play, and this lasted 6 months, then they REWORKED HIS KIT and changed 80% of him, after the community finally loved him, into the current Aatrox, the big one. and it got horrible backlash.
in this case, Aatrox no longer has his revive, heals for less, has had his passive changed, his cooldowns longer and can still kill you from full health :^)
Thanks for the backstory on this one! I didn’t know that the original one had a different story but do like him. Typical that he was changed and then again just as he was becoming established. Would have been cool to have kept both versions, like a first form and a final form Aatrox.
@@TheReelSym yeah it was a story over a few years, there League's older champions from 2009 are all being reworked one by one, and obviously not everyone likes them.
for your future look at League champs, do keep in mind that many of them have multiple versions because of reworks. (searching the champ name and the word "rework" into youtube will tell you if they have had one). ^^
There are a few heart-warming stories from Riot where they flew people who had really high numbers of games on a champion to the Riot HQ, so the players that loved the champions, could help make their updates. there was a 20 minutes mini documentary of the Urgot rework i believe.
i do love to see your input on the characters for one of my favourite games, eager to see more. ^^

Volibear was one of the first champions i covered and when i did I wasn't using this current format so there is scope for me to still cover the rest of his stuff. When i do i will make sure i go through his special interactions!
I'm directly commenting the last part of the video... "make aatrox great again" well yeah that's what riot did. Now Aatrox is my favourite champion in the game. Playing him is a ducking TREAT, but for some reason almost everyone fell into a meme that the new aatrox sucks and the old was better what tilts me to death, plz help.
