You are aware that no detector can tell depth? it doesn't know the size of the target it's detecting, this is why 'proper' probes don't have a depth reading.
I bought a whites pin pointer and I am not happy with it, it might sound off at 1 inch. it is not a new one it is about 5 years old but I have used it very little
I found that the target has to be dug down to and the top layer of dirt removed then use the pin pointer or as the dirt is removed and put on a plastic plate until there is no more signal and then use the pointer to find it. They of course will not go as deep as a metal detector.
You can make the gp pointer five times better by watching the how to make your gp pointer better video on TH-cam I did it it’s easy and really works if you shine a torch through the end of the gp pointer you will see the sensor inside is nowhere near the end of the pointer you have to take the button off and insert a price of wire and push the sensor down to the tip of the pointer it makes it way better

I've got 2 of these GP pointers, one's really good works from about 3" very progressive tells me right where the target is, the other is junk just beeps slowly only works half an inch away, so they're quite variable.
Check out TH-cam for videos called Hack your GP pointer, or Fix your GP pointer, or Increase the sensitivity of your GP pointer. The sensing coil is probably not all the way at the tip/end of your bad one. Imo, that's probably why some people say their's suck. They likely have one with a coil that is not positioned all the way to the end. The newer GP2 (or is it GPII..?) supposedly doesn't have this problem.
Your talking mostly about the build....how about performance? $ Hundred dollar an inch?? I'll go cheap for what it is. When I pull that out I've already got what I'm looking for in my face.....smh, 13 bucks.
Good test TM, thank you. Sadly many will disagree with you & I but coming from someone who's been in the hobby both using & selling for over 50yrs these cheap probes are simply cheap & nasty, sure they can pick up metal (mostly they can) but that's not what you were explaining, it's quality that should be looked at rather than lowest price.
My 30 dollar pin pointer works just as well lol something’s are better cheap I use it in conjunction with a fisher f22 with a nel Sharp coil no negative feedback using it with that detector but my dad has a mine lab 540 and you can’t use that with it at all that being said I’m not about to pay 200 something dollars for a pin pointer when my $30 does just fine don’t blow your money pinpointpointers are supposed to help you specifically find within inches of an object nobody in their right mind is digging 4 to 6 inches with a pin pointer spend your money on a good metal detector and buy a cheap pin pointer that works with your metal detector that’s my two cents and I’ve been using this one for three years and it has not broken and for those that wanna know what my pinpointpointer is it’s avid power
Let me guess, your detecting experience goes as far as looking for dollar coins dropped by kids in the playground...... If this is the case, sure stick to the cheap stuff but from a personal standpoint, i run a GPX 5000 out in the Western Australia goldfields and at times have a 25" Nugget Finder coil attached. Now i have dug holes 3 to 4 feet deep and with a coil that big it's near impossible to get it down in the whole to pinpoint without digging the hole super wide, this is where spending $200 on a good pin pointer can save you a lot of time, sweat and your back digging. Even for shallow targets, there's no messing about, a quick scrape, wave the wand and if it beeps you know your within 5 inches away essentially using the pin pointer as a metal detector itself. Those cheap pin pointers, you're basically only checking the dirt you have already dug and at that point, what's the point! 😁

The cheap pinpointer is best used by psychics. That can save money on batteries. I wish I knew some great places to hunt but kids disrespecting property in this region have gotten the public banned from going anywhere. We can`t even go to nearby lakes or creeks anymore.
You make Amazon worse for the rest of us, "I think I'll send this back and get my money". Why? It was as described. You got exactly what you knew you were going to get and expected when you purchased it. You are displaying buyers remorse and would be committing a form of Internet fraud of you did. You even made a video showing yourself doing it. The only reason you got that pinpointer was just so you can diss it and make a review that states the obvious. States exactly what everyone is expecting When comparing a $13 pin pointer and $120 pinpointer. A honest review would have stated but for the money it works pretty good. You are just shilling for Garrett and Garrett's "China" carrot and yes Garrett lies. Mostly made in China assembled and boxed in the good old US of A. By the way that box was made here as well so they were able to abuse the made in USA logo, but not the carrot it was assembled (screwed the battery cap on with the correct model number on the sticker) and placed in a box in the US state of Texas. Do I like my carrot? Sure I do and I've always had a Garrett pinpointer since they came out. Before that we would go by the Zen-tech version of the original Whites sold at harbor freight. Remember that one? We would change the button in it and add a vibrator. Then put it in a black nitrate glove also purchased at harbor freight and call it waterproof. But for somebody starting out grab the cheap GP. If you like the hobby, buy yourself a Garrett. You need to carry two pin pointers anyway many people don't realize that.
this seems to be a very biased review, personally after watching it, im getting the cheap one :D, the pointer isnt to locate the metal initially, thats what the big metal detactor is for...the pin pointer is just to make life easier when you are sifting through the junk to find the metal. the cheap detector is fine.
Well I was hoping it was as good, it would save you loads, but you’d end up buying 10 of these when you could of gotten one Garrett, and if it has issues they fix it..

Lmao I just bought my first metal detector and pinpointer spent less than 100 dollars on my detector that came with headphones and a folding multi-tool shovel that has a pic axe end as well and it came in a cool camo bag for that tool my pinpointer was less than 30 dollars works great and it gets louder when you hit or get closer to your target and it came with a cool durable camo holder that you can hook on you with tge included key chain thing im not a brand guy I like different brands also my pinpointer is similar and I found already that I could detect about 4 or 5 inches from some metal and other metal like a nail maybe 1 to 2 inches away so it depends on the material as well.
Not really a fair comparison. The pro pointer works. It's nowhere near the carrot but for 14 bucks you get what you pay for. I have both the cartot and the pro pointer. With both you're getting your money's worth.
“Come on man!”🤣 you can buy one the Chinese junk ones 10 times or buy 1 GOOD one once! Guess depends on how much you actually detect and use it, this one lasted about 4 trips and it’s in the trash! Stopped working
I've always fancied detectoring, but have never gotten round to buying one. I mentioned it to my wife several years ago, but never mentioned it again. This year, my wife surprised me and bought me a Garret Ace 400i and it's a great piece of kit. The problem I find is that there is a lot of iron/metal in the fields and woods around where I live, from modern, to medieval, and more rarely Roman and Iron Age. So, I'm spoilt for metal. There's almost TOO MUCH metal. HOWEVER, the MD itself is sensitive even when 'dialled down' and filtering out 'trash' and I'm left with having to dig a hole maybe 1ft wide, even at shallow depth, wider if the object is buried deeper, so I thought a pin pointer would speed up locating the metal objects more precisely, either in the ground, or in the soil I'd removed. Absolutely, there's no way I'm paying over £100, let alone £200 for something which is only slightly more complicated than a hand held torch. Whilst looking at the available pin pointers, I came across your review of this very cheap pin pointer and reading the 'headline' assumed that you were going to sing its praises. It only took a moment or two to realise you were going to 'rip into' the product and call it 'rubbish' or 'awful' and flabbergasted that you were intending to send it back and ask for a refund. I'm a beginner, as I said, but as many more experienced detectorists have said here, THE WHOLE POINT of a pin pointer is that it 'zooms in' and 'pin points' the exact location of the object, in the ground, or in the removed soil. This GP pin pointer does exactly that, whilst your Garret pin pointers are beeping whilst 6 inches away, making them no better at pin pointing than the MD itself. Okay, so your cheap 'Chinese' knock-off' makes a different sounding beep. So what? So, the plastic is cheap. So what? Will they last forever? Probably not, but they'll be a piece of cake to repair with nothing more than some tape and maybe a bit of solder. If you ask me, you should be sending your Garrets back and getting a refund! BTW, I am no fan of cheap 'foreign knock offs' myself, and have even gone so far as to write to manufacturers and report copyright and trademark breaches, but when a respectable company sells a pin pointer for $100-$200 THAT'S the true 'rip off'
Lots of people get a really cheap machine and get frustrated, really they all do the same when you’re £200 up cost, but the sound quality, the discrimination and Dept really show in say a Deus. In the end it’s what a person likes, can afford etc. thanks for the great comment!
@@Treasuremonk Thanks for your speedy reply. Yes, my MD is cheap and the discrimination isn't brilliant, but it finds metal and puts me close enough to decide where to dig a hole. It's once I'm doing that that a pin pointer speeds everything up, and as I said, what I need is a pin pointer that only beeps/rings/wails/hoots/coughs or farts when it's within an inch or so of the object. If I scan the spoil with my MD and it beeps, I can then use the pin pointer to probe around and locate the object. If there's no beep I can maybe run the pin pointer around the edges or bottom of the hole to locate it more accurately.... but only if the thing only beeps within an inch of it.
There pritty good for the money rely if ur not a hardcore detectorist there fine I wouldn't say the garret is 10 times better ether when it's 10 times the price

The 13 dollar one is going off when the metal is next to it... what it's supposed to do yeah it's not as good as the Garrett which is prob in the top 2 metal detector manufacturers on earth.. but that Lil 13 dollar one done the job
Not a fanboy, if you only detect a couple times a year the cheap Chinese fake maybe ok, if you detect like I do for 12 days in a row, twice a year in UK, and numerous days in US, my Garrett carrot and even black ones has lasted 7-8 years now, the fake one stopped about 3rd trip out .
@@Treasuremonk Well I still use a Whites 6000di pro, so I am probably not on the list of anybody that should voice opinions on equipment being good or bad.
The Garrett can be “re-tuned” so if you are far away (6”) you at least know something is there. Then when you have a strong signal, you re-tune it so the strength is lower and you can fine tune you way to pin point the exact spot your target is at. If your detector’s maximum distance is only 1 inch, you will miss a lot of targets.
But you're not metal detecting solely with a pinpointer.. how would you miss targets with a pinpointer if you go back over the spot with the detector after you find whatever was there
Trouble is you don't like the go pointer because it's made in China and I suggest you put a good battery in the cheapy thousands of cheap pointers use and if you know how to tune them they are as good if not better than expensive one
Yeah i am against stealing others hard work, trying to pass crap fakes offa and make money . Be it ANY product, there’s NOT a chance in hell this thing would last hunting everyday 8 hrs a day for 12 days in England ! “Tuning” has nothing to do with quality ! But I appreciate you comment, thank you

Thank you ! Exactly

Hello friend, how much is the price of this product? I can not buy it in Iran. I am very interested in it. Can I have one of them, even an old one?
I Think For $13 Bucks It Didn’t Do That Bad ! More Credit Should Have Been Given To The Cheap One $120 Compared To $13 Plus Free Shipping ? How About A Video On A $50 Pin pointer Comparison With The Garret ?
That’s a great idea! What brand is the $50? The main issue with the $13 is the Chinese stealing patents from Garrett , copying their products..

They now have a digital one that shows depth and everything for $12
Oh and the updated version has 6 inch range adjustable and it's water-resistant the body still feels cheap as it gets out though
Link?
You are aware that no detector can tell depth? it doesn't know the size of the target it's detecting, this is why 'proper' probes don't have a depth reading.
Which one is that can detect pure gold?
I think you have the GP on buzz not beep not a good test, by the way I don't own either one.
Thank you! Which do you prefer sir?
From the other reviews and comparisons, I think the GP. I am retired 81year old and I think it will be best for me. I have the Z Terra pro. Thanks and good hunting.
@@jamescullins2709 excellent! Best of luck!
You can use a paper clip and black plastic tape for fine tuning or calibrating.
Also that GP was way louder the the Garret 2 black one sorry.
I've metal detected for 6 years and have used many Garrett's.... For 13 dollars compared to almost 200 dollars that thing is the way better deal... If I was starting out again I'd try one off those before handing Garrett my 💰
Yes if you’re getting started it’s best not spend a pile of money not knowing if you will like it,But the places I detect in England twice a year for 12 days straight in rain , snow , mud, that $13 pointer wouldn’t last 2 hours
Been using cheapos for ! 1/2 years. Only complaint i have is the switch gets a little funky. Work pretty damn good tho.And I can buy 7 of them for the price of a carrot.

The gp look good when actually trying to point it out. But I would like the garrett to point how close to it is.
You moved in an inch closer after it started beeping lol
I know it’s sucks when you pay a bunch for “the best” only to get shown up by the $13.59 one
🤣😂😂🤣
Just messing with ya mate but you did move it closer
God Bless All
I've got 2 of these GP pointers, one's really good works from about 3" very progressive tells me right where the target is, the other is junk just beeps slowly only works half an inch away, so they're quite variable.
Garret fan boy
Good test TM, thank you. Sadly many will disagree with you & I but coming from someone who's been in the hobby both using & selling for over 50yrs these cheap probes are simply cheap & nasty, sure they can pick up metal (mostly they can) but that's not what you were explaining, it's quality that should be looked at rather than lowest price.
You didn't put them under water from what I hear the cheepy isn't water proof I use mt garrett under water all the time
Oh not a chance lol!!
My 30 dollar pin pointer works just as well lol something’s are better cheap
I use it in conjunction with a fisher f22 with a nel Sharp coil no negative feedback using it with that detector but my dad has a mine lab 540 and you can’t use that with it at all that being said I’m not about to pay 200 something dollars for a pin pointer when my $30 does just fine don’t blow your money pinpointpointers are supposed to help you specifically find within inches of an object nobody in their right mind is digging 4 to 6 inches with a pin pointer spend your money on a good metal detector and buy a cheap pin pointer that works with your metal detector that’s my two cents and I’ve been using this one for three years and it has not broken and for those that wanna know what my pinpointpointer is it’s avid power
Good deal! Thank you
Let me guess, your detecting experience goes as far as looking for dollar coins dropped by kids in the playground...... 😁
@@republicofcasuals yes you’re correct, I spend 2 months a year in England detecting for last 10 years, Canada and US. Do archeology work on lost battlefields , so I don’t know much.. have a look at my other videos! Thanks
@@Treasuremonk Hi, my comment was more directed at the top dude (jeep colorado) I was just pointing out that spending more on something to make something easier is a clear long term investment over buying these cheap toys just because they are cheap. Yes they work and probably well for the average person detecting, but again from a personal standpoint, digging half way to China in outback Australia on a 40+ celcius day.... i'll take the $200 pinpointer every time lol 😁👍
@@republicofcasuals ah ok lol, I’m old I should put my papaw glasses on when I read 🤣
I would say ill buy that thing and throw away my Garrett after watching this.... it's a pin pointer... I don't want it beeping 5 inches away. My detector does that for me already.. pin point should be pin point not 5 inches
Good luck! I don’t think the distance it detects has anything to do with it, you can adjust the Garrett to three different powers plus just beep or just vibrate , I’d not trust this junk a day of detecting to last more than 10 hours!
What did you expect ?
Can't buy a ferrari for a $ 1000 either.
Amen lol
this seems to be a very biased review, personally after watching it, im getting the cheap one :D, the pointer isnt to locate the metal initially, thats what the big metal detactor is for...the pin pointer is just to make life easier when you are sifting through the junk to find the metal. the cheap detector is fine.
Well you convinced me, the garret 🥕 is the way to go.
Well I was hoping it was as good, it would save you loads, but you’d end up buying 10 of these when you could of gotten one Garrett, and if it has issues they fix it..
Yeah I bought one. It buzzed intermittently in mid air outside with no metal for at least 10 feet around it.
So either supersonic sensitive, or crap faulty out of the box, at least got the refund for it.
Anyones for the postage.

A pointless review. All you did is prove that the $13 pin pointer works as it's supposed to and you have lots of money to spend on tools.
If you have ever done any serious metal detecting, you would quickly know that anything that saves any digging time is a blessing!
I have a GP Pinpointer, I have never had a problem with it. It works and finds what is in the hole. Not waterproof at all.
Not really a fair comparison. The pro pointer works. It's nowhere near the carrot but for 14 bucks you get what you pay for. I have both the cartot and the pro pointer. With both you're getting your money's worth.
GP pointers better then NOTHING...for 13 bucks what the heck..lol
I have a gp pointer and it works just fine. I think it's stupid to pay an extra hundred dollars, or more, for a name.
thanks for sharing...
Just like he says, don't waste your money! Spend 10x more on something that works 30% better
@@markedwardmann4274 yes sure you’ll find you niche!! I spend 2 months a year in Norwich detecting each year,

why the hell would anyone dislike this vid
Talking about biased reviews... Why you ever want a pinpointer to be so sensitive that the whole pinpointing is not even pinpointing
Yes it’s not as much about sensitivity as the quality and the fact the product patent has been stolen by the Chinese
The 13 dollar one is going off when the metal is next to it... what it's supposed to do yeah it's not as good as the Garrett which is prob in the top 2 metal detector manufacturers on earth.. but that Lil 13 dollar one done the job
Placing all the 3 in just few cm apart it's not a good idea ... you know that ?
what a waste of my time..lol. some petty complaints,,,with useless tests. thanks
I didn’t see a big big difference like you. You are a Garrett fanboy.
@@dankjankings7339 hey if it works it work’s buddy!
Correct! Great point thank you! I forgot to mention that!
But you're not metal detecting solely with a pinpointer.. how would you miss targets with a pinpointer if you go back over the spot with the detector after you find whatever was there
Got damn it’s only 13. Buck 😂 u going to return it shit just give it to your kid. 😂
