In the middle of a national emergency where lives and jobs are being lost, the city of Lake Worth Beach thought it would be appropriate to turn off utilities of the very community they serve? Commissioner Omari Hardy was just in his outrage. His selfless act, consideration and passion for serving the community, was made clear when it mattered the most. Risking your reputation to defend those who can't defend themselves is admirable, not disrespectful! Pam Triolo, shame on you! You are a failure and disgrace to your city!

@@PositiveZ7 I agree on needing to see the whole meeting, but from what I gather in this video is that Triolo (the mayor) and Bornstein (City Manager) have done little in response to the coronavirus outbreak. They kept large tourist areas like beaches and businesses open and continued to carry on life as usual (probably cause it makes them a ton of money to stay open while everything is closing). While other states are acting appropriately and closing down large gatherings/events, businesses, and meeting areas. Hardy (commissioner) is outraged due to the lack of seriousness of the situation and now that they finally gathered to have a meeting (weeks overdue) they decided the best thing to do for the State of Florida is to mess with the funding of utilities. I agree that he should not be raising his voice, but he only got seriously heated after he brought this to their attention and Triolo (and the members) called the question and recessed the meeting (meaning they are ignoring his statement and will continue with the plan as stated by Bornstein). He then becomes passionately outraged at his pears for flippantly passing a rule to mess with the people of Florida's utilities when there are other things that can/could have been done instead. Triolo then proceeds to ignore the gravitas that Hardy is stating and simply mocks him for wanting to run for her position... Which is a very childish thing to do during a moment like this. She did not give any value to the conversation and just like everyone else at that table "they did nothing". Regardless if he is running for any sort of political position he is not wrong, and his anger is justified. What they are enforcing will cost hundreds of Florida resident's heartache and financial stress. I second this. Turning off utilities does not slow the spread of the virus. If shed said this strains our budgets to the point we cannot combat the virus effectively MAYBE people would have seen her side of things more. But from this scene i see nothing saying shes a good leader and just a politician.

I watched a video of the whole meeting, and it was almost two hours. It was PAINFUL to watch. After the recess, they reconvened to wrap up the meeting. It was upsetting to watch Hardy get a dressing down from one of the commissions who had remained silent up until that point. He accused Hardy of bringing confusion and being divisive, implied that Hardy was lying about the utility shut offs. FACT: The city had been shutting off utilities a week before this particular meeting, and had barely turned them back on this past week. Hardy was right. The city was too slow to act. The whole country was too slow to act, and the state of Florida was even slower. This is a matter of life and death, and shame to all who hide behind ceremony and decorum to conceal their shortcomings. Damn decorum, we need more truth tellers like Omar Hardy!!!

You're correct, the death toll in the US will be catastrophic and people like this man are trying to help and lower the stress and overall hardship people will go through but its falling on deaf ears. Look at the amount dying in Italy every day, the US will be at least x10 that soon.
This video is 2 minutes of a 1+ hour meeting and without that context you can’t understand what’s really happening here. The idea that this man is a hero becomes much more unclear once you actually watch the entire meeting. Perhaps his intentions were good, but he was belligerent, disrespectful and confrontational throughout an entire meeting by constantly talking over people while they had the floor (in violation of basic rules), interrogating people, literally and audibly huffing and puffing while others were speaking, and just generally trying to stir stuff up in the middle of an emergency where everyone seemed to be trying their best to respond to the situation. Now, the background political issues at hand are beyond my knowledge. From what it seemed, this gentleman was arguing that the city manager and staff wasn’t doing enough to respond, that a state of emergency should be called (which he argued the mayor didn’t have sole power to do according to the city charter) and that they cut people’s power. Once again though, if you watch the whole meeting you would know that on the Monday prior to the meeting the power was cut off for about 50 residences due to non payment (which is normal operations on the part of the utility company), on Tuesday the city manager found out and by Wednesday they had turned power back on and put a moratorium on power cut offs which the gentleman in the video seemed to pretend had not been done. There was also a lengthy discussion about declaring a state of emergency which the gentleman thought needed to be done, but there was clearly no consensus in the meeting that this would actually accomplish anything in this specific situation beyond what the federal and state emergency declarations had already done. So, if you really want to understand what’s happening here, you should probably watch the whole meeting instead of watching a 2 minute clip with no context whatsoever. It’s quite possible that part of this may have been to get attention and score political points, and he definitely accomplished that (6 million views is nothing to scoff at).

Commissioner Omari Hardy was just in his outrage. His selfless act, consideration and passion for serving the community, was made clear when it mattered the most. @@PositiveZ7 I agree on needing to see the whole meeting, but from what I gather in this video is that Triolo (the mayor) and Bornstein (City Manager) have done little in response to the coronavirus outbreak. They kept large tourist areas like beaches and businesses open and continued to carry on life as usual (probably cause it makes them a ton of money to stay open while everything is closing). While other states are acting appropriately and closing down large gatherings/events, businesses, and meeting areas. Hardy (commissioner) is outraged due to the lack of seriousness of the situation and now that they finally gathered to have a meeting (weeks overdue) they decided the best thing to do for the State of Florida is to mess with the funding of utilities. I agree that he should not be raising his voice, but he only got seriously heated after he brought this to their attention and Triolo (and the members) called the question and recessed the meeting (meaning they are ignoring his statement and will continue with the plan as stated by Bornstein). He then becomes passionately outraged at his pears for flippantly passing a rule to mess with the people of Florida's utilities when there are other things that can/could have been done instead. Triolo then proceeds to ignore the gravitas that Hardy is stating and simply mocks him for wanting to run for her position... Which is a very childish thing to do during a moment like this. She did not give any value to the conversation and just like everyone else at that table "they did nothing". Regardless if he is running for any sort of political position he is not wrong, and his anger is justified. What they are enforcing will cost hundreds of Florida resident's heartache and financial stress. Like he said, "We cut off people's utilities this week and made them pay what could have been their last check *to us* to turn their lights on in a global health pandemic."

I second this. Turning off utilities does not slow the spread of the virus. If shed said this strains our budgets to the point we cannot combat the virus effectively MAYBE people would have seen her side of things more. I watched a video of the whole meeting, and it was almost two hours. It was PAINFUL to watch. After the recess, they reconvened to wrap up the meeting. It was upsetting to watch Hardy get a dressing down from one of the commissions who had remained silent up until that point. He accused Hardy of bringing confusion and being divisive, implied that Hardy was lying about the utility shut offs. FACT: The city had been shutting off utilities a week before this particular meeting, and had barely turned them back on this past week. Hardy was right. The city was too slow to act. The whole country was too slow to act, and the state of Florida was even slower. This is a matter of life and death, and shame to all who hide behind ceremony and decorum to conceal their shortcomings. Damn decorum, we need more truth tellers like Omar Hardy!!!

You're correct, the death toll in the US will be catastrophic and people like this man are trying to help and lower the stress and overall hardship people will go through but its falling on deaf ears. Look at the amount dying in Italy every day, the US will be at least x10 that soon.
This video is 2 minutes of a 1+ hour meeting and without that context you can’t understand what’s really happening here. The idea that this man is a hero becomes much more unclear once you actually watch the entire meeting. Perhaps his intentions were good, but he was belligerent, disrespectful and confrontational throughout an entire meeting by constantly talking over people while they had the floor (in violation of basic rules), interrogating people, literally and audibly huffing and puffing while others were speaking, and just generally trying to stir stuff up in the middle of an emergency where everyone seemed to be trying their best to respond to the situation. Now, the background political issues at hand are beyond my knowledge. From what it seemed, this gentleman was arguing that the city manager and staff wasn’t doing enough to respond, that a state of emergency should be called (which he argued the mayor didn’t have sole power to do according to the city charter) and that they cut people’s power. Once again though, if you watch the whole meeting you would know that on the Monday prior to the meeting the power was cut off for about 50 residences due to non payment (which is normal operations on the part of the utility company), on Tuesday the city manager found out and by Wednesday they had turned power back on and put a moratorium on power cut offs which the gentleman in the video seemed to pretend had not been done. There was also a lengthy discussion about declaring a state of emergency which the gentleman thought needed to be done, but there was clearly no consensus in the meeting that this would actually accomplish anything in this specific situation beyond what the federal and state emergency declarations had already done. So, if you really want to understand what’s happening here, you should probably watch the whole meeting instead of watching a 2 minute clip with no context whatsoever. It’s quite possible that part of this may have been to get attention and score political points, and he definitely accomplished that (6 million views is nothing to scoff at).
Maybe he knows more than we know and doesn't even want to be part of it anymore (leaves his job kind of?).
