The true artist of the steel guitar Jerry' is 'master of touch and tone' and he tone will never be duplicated.Jerry Byrd music is a treasure to have and how we all miss this great individual who has given us so much.
Hallo there Pal.The song is HE MANA`O KOU LA OLE. You can get the song on Memories of Hawaii Sol Hoopii vol2 cumquat record 2782 form australia. Jerry didnt record this song himself as fare as i know of.This man should have alot more records out.I have only 20 of them, but theres alot of duplicates on the mercury stuff.
Jerry Byrd says he is a little limitid because of the lack of two necks, but Good lord The second song Waipio is the greatest steel sound clip I ever heard in my Life .And I have hear ALOT.
The zen of Byrd - - - the second song was Waipio, but what was the first one? I couldn't make out what Jerry was saying, something . . . . e'oi. Do you know? Thanks, Johnny Pal
Resopicker the answer is: yes you are correct. This is NOT an original frypan, but it's sound comes the closest ever. The 8 string Frypan is a result of Jerry and Shot Jackson of ShoBud steel guitar, coming out with a replica of the original Frypan that Rickenbacker made in the 30;s and 40's.When Shot died these guitars were no longer built. So a very wonderful Japanese man by the name of Mitsuo Fujii of Excel steel Guitars in Japan agreed to do what Shot had done; with Jerry's 100% endorsement. They are still being made I believe and in fact this one Jerry is playing might be one of these. Not sure.
Why would any videographer EVER put the camera on the players face; when what he is doing is a million times more important than his face. It is one of my all time "pet-peeves". GET that camera OFF his face and let us watch the wizardry of his hands. The music is NOT coming from his head. Rather through hands from Heaven, playing things NO one else could ever do. Oh well. May Jesus rest Jerry's precious soul. (A dear friend and I miss him more than I could ever say).

He's not only the "Master of touch and tone"; he is the greatest lapsteel player that will ever have been. There will never be another lapsteel player that can touch Jerry. No not one EVER! Oh indeed yes.
Rudi Wairata was better and had a masters degree in music..I don’t hear Jerry playing anything too fast …. He was a great player to but not as good as Rudi…, regards
