I think we need to ask better questions, like WHY is it hard to win at Iowa? Is it because, no matter what, we absolutely can't get kids to come to a place like Iowa? Or is it because we've had the same coach for 20+ years and Kirk has a reputation for not playing a specific type or brand (ie exciting) of football. If you install a guy who understands the culture coupled with a good NIL program, we don't have to put Iowa's potential into a box.
It's ironic you talk about Iowa struggling on grass. Between the '88 and '89 seasons, they put grass in Kinnick Stadium to try to give Iowa an advantage. To try to neutralize speed by removing that old concrete turf and installing grass. Not to mention, there was a ridiculous amount of knee injuries on that old turf.
I think Fran was butt hurt Caitlyn Clark and the women's team got so much attention and drew much bigger crowds than his so-so squad. Sure seemed to be a surly old man last year.
