    I purchased the 300...I freaking LOVE it. But here's the caveat, I live in NYC. On our city highways, the speed limit is a whopping 45 mph, 25mph on city streets. The 300 is made for urban/city environments, it destroys the city traffic and has plenty of power to get me out of trouble when needed. I totally understand where Ryan is coming from in his review, longer rides on the 300 at 70mph wouldn't be the best experience. It doesn't feel as planted as it's heavier brother at high speeds and the engine is working much harder to keep you moving. But for city life, where 98% of my riding never reaches above 60-70mph and I'm constantly battling crazy traffic/pedestrians/tourists/city buses/ and taxis...the 300 is the superior motorcycle...and dare I say, a lot more fun.

    • @cagednm69
      @cagednm69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      the CBR300R does 90mph with ease so the Rebel 300 with the same motor should be able to hit 80mph atleast so unless you live in Germany and ride the Autobahn, the 300 will do just fine.

    • @boneseyyl1060
      @boneseyyl1060 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Cagednm69 Yea I am sure the 300 will do 90 but I wouldn't say with ease. It will take you a lot longer to get there. And how long you would want to be there is another matter. Forget the autobahn, it is like Ryan said, the 300 would be fine as a city bike, but I ride the CB 500 F and I would not want to be on anything less on the highway for any extended period of time. Plus the extra power is just more fun. I bought the 500 for my wife to learn on but I love it so much I am really thinking of getting one for myself. I come from riding mostly 750's but at my advanced age now. the 500 is all I need.

    It's been 3 months on my 2020 rebel and I absolutely LOVE the rebel! The dealer tried to up-sell me a Vulcan 650, or a Suzuki boulevard, but those bikes felt unnecessarily heavy, were broad, and made me feel less secure and confident, while the rebel was really light, felt so nimble and agile. I'm a skinny guy, 6 feet and it feels like a part of my body. Looks mean too and very close to the iron 883, for a LOT cheaper tho!
    2020 made a bunch of improvements I should mention:
    - Suspension is no longer bouncy, it's very stable.
    - The gross calculator dash / HUD, with the square display in the circle as been replaced by a better circle display in a circle dash. Aesthetically pleasing.
    - Headlights are now LED and looks gorgeous, and gives a modern / futuristic touch to the cruiser.
    - Now has a slipper assisted clutch, so if you down shift or up shift too rapidly, the clutch plates will just slip until equilibrium is reached making things a lot more forgiving for the new rider.
    - ABS works great, there's been a couple situations where I slammed the brake when a couple cars caused near misses, but it translated into progressive movement. Stopping power wasn't instant, but if I didn't have it I'd probably lock the wheel and fall.
    - Clutch is soft like butter and needs just 30% of the force it used to require on the 2020, I can manipulate it with my pinky finger.

    Finicky Neutral issue:
    th-cam.com/video/2bRqMspMCZM/w-d-xo.html
    I've found that when gearing down and you accidentally end up in neutral you can keep trying to gear down until you hit 1st but it is super finicky as Ryan shows us here, but if you release the clutch at the stop (when in neutral of course) and then try again, it works 100% of the time for me.

    Hi fellow motorcyclists,
    this bike is so old school, that old school suspension tricks work.
    Put in heavier fork oil, ie 30W, 40W and add 1 oz or more when you do. Ride it, change it, ride it and figure out what works best for your bike.
    Drill out the fork caps and install metal automotive valve caps and put (no more than) 6-8 psi. Voila, adjustable forks with adjustable damping via the weight oil you feel is best.
    Add REAL Gas shocks to the rear.
    SPEND THE MONEY!!!!!!!!
    have fun and ride safe.
    cheers

    This is a nice addition to the Bike line-up for shorter people - particularly women. Most low bikes are big and heavy with no ABS (sometimes drum brake in rear) Carburated air cooled iron pigs that are pretty unwieldy for beginners and smaller less powerful people. The Vulcan S is the nearest bike in this configuration and has 20 more horsepower and bigger - making it a tough choice for a woman's first bike. This bike fits a niche that really has nothing in it - and is selling fast.

I get that it will be something completely different and a bit intimidating at first.. but if i am cautious and not an idiot its manageable right, i feel like when i get the general feeling of it its going to be fine, can't say. Before i looked into the power, i fell in love with the XSR 900.. reaally want that bike but it seems that is a bad idea now that i looked into it. So how about this one, it still has that style i like, so is it doable as a beginner bike?

    • @Konghulio
      @Konghulio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Robb I'm probably going to have the unpopular opinion here but I speak from experience and I know I do for others as well. Don't buy a new bike. You'll waste your money. Hop on cycletrader.com or whatever website you prefer and search up a bunch of used motos because you WILL be dropping it and that's alright for when you first start out. But why inevitably damage and have to expensively repair a newer motorcycle?
      P.S. Also unpopular opinion here perhaps but get a bike with as little amenities as possible.. i.e. no fuel gauge, tachometer, ABS, TCS, none of that. And lemme tell you why because that all sounds counterproductive, so that you can actually appreciate all that nice shit when you do take the step up to the next [presumptively nicer] bike and also so that you don't have to rely on all those aids just to ride. You'll become a better rider if you learn how to ride without any luxuries.

      Yeah, honestly the main reason i am not going to get the XSR isn't because of the power itself, i think i could manage it and learn on the way. But i would inevitable drop it, not necessarily crash etc, which would be a shame for such a nice bike. I have already checked local used bikes etc and there are great deals, so when i drop it i won't cry so much since it's 3 thousand and not 10. Thanks

      I would say neither actually. Get a cheap used shadow 750, or something of the sort to start on then when you have some miles under your belt sell it for what you bought it for assuming it does not get crashed and buy the XRS900 that you actually want

    I don't "get" the Rebel. I think it's ugly & I found the riding position uncomfortable after about 10mins, my back & neck/shoulders hurt. The instruments cluster looks cheap, an a eyesore level of cheap. I also found it underpowered, my ass hates the seat & yes, suspension is soft & squishy. It has great fuel ecconomy, handles well & reliability promises to be great. I bought a used Suzuki GS500F instead, practically the same performance, far more comfortable & a LOT cheaper.

    1:40 It may be too slow and too vibrational for you Ryan, but it's good for me.
    I've owned and have been riding my 2017 rebel 300 since late April and have loved it overall. Finally began establishing a consistent riding to and from work daily. The first time around 3 weeks ago I went through the full 2.96 gallons that tank holds at max, got 70 mpg( keep in mind that was at the around 400 mile ish mark..so it was and still isn't finish being broken in and have a windshield + my 200 pounds of body, gear, and lunch in a Igio mach 5 hiviz yellow turtle shell shape backpack).
    I chose to refuel her this evening, could only fit 1.313 gallons and hit the 113mile, from the previous refueling, when I stopped to do do that refueling. Thus 86 MPG. Now keep in mind though that's keeping the bike at 60mph on the interstate ( 70% of my driving path) and 50 mph on the regular highway 30% of the driving path. I keep the rear tire at 38 psi and the front at 34/35 psi. Of course still on the stock mediocre tires mind you. And will do the first oil change within a week or less ( at 585 miles now)
    I #$%kin love riding xD

    I'm a big boy, think 370, 6'1, 52 in chest, power-lifter body type. Would one of these haul me around at a good speed? I'm drawn to smaller, more agile bikes but 500 seems a tad small for myself.

    I've ridden two of these, can feel how the engine was returned, pokey down low, sounds good, but it's for cruising, and it's not comfortable. The one that blew me away was the Kawasaki Vulcan S, so sporty and comfortable!

    great review! I just got my M2 and bought this bike a few weeks ago. As a new rider, its fantastic. I can totally agree with the seat comfort issue, tho. Otherwise, I really appreciate the advice my friends gave to bump up to the 500 and skip the smaller motor.

      Hej F9 .... very honest but a pitty you would not buy a xsr900.... i did cause i think fits both my daily city traffic and the pleasure of a longer ride .... and is a technology top of the pop.... yes now i am a little scared about the power

    I thought we had gotten past that "gas tank pointing up at a 45 degree angle" fad about 30 years ago? This thing just looks silly. You can get this same nice engine in other Honda models that are so much more functional for a similar price. As for the turn signal switch location, that annoyed me too for about the first day I had my CB500X, now I like it, it's easier to reach. I use my turn signals about 3000 times as often as I use my horn, and like everything else, you get used to it when you own the bike

    • @motoryzen
      @motoryzen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cbr250r was plenty highway capable. The rebel 300 is a 286cc with it being turned for better lower and mid range torgue by a small degree versus the cbr300r ...allegedly. Thus even the 300 is highway capable. The 500 has a 471cc engine with only a couple of hand fulls of more pudginess. It's even more interstate capable.
